Video PSP

Earlier this week we went to the charming city of Cannes, in the south of France, to attend the IDEF show and shoot some nice footage. We took a look at the Sony booth to film some gameplay of Gran Turismo PSP, as usual in sixty-frames per second to get the most out of its smoothness. A replay of the game, also in 60 fps, will follow quickly.
Update: Replay video added.

Very impressive, but ther is only 4 cars in the track... It wouldn't be enough for me. Crashes are lame too. BUT It wouldbe the greatest handheld game, I am very excited, this game will decide if i'll buy a psp go or not.

Looks pretty impressive. The track looks very cool as well! If I'd actually be half interested in mobile gaming, this would definitely be on top of my list...

Very impressive, but I wish more developers understood the importance of 60fps.

Too bad it's a bit of a boring game, but I guess you can't have everything.

welcome to the world of sim racers...if it wasnt for the fact the likes of GT5 push realism in graphics, i really wouldnt even look at the game.

This is no doubt a technical feat and everything.. but I'd just like to know who's actually gonna play this. I mean, GT fans are of the buying a steering wheel and pedals variety, so why would they - in circa a bowserillion years - wanna play a PSP racing sim?

And if the answer to that is the most predictable "they wouldn't", then the obvious follow up question is of course.. who the heck would? :O

It may be shallow but it's the stone cold truth, sim racers just don't have enough depth within gameplay for that to be their selling point, matters are further exasperated by the fact that most GT gamers don't play with a steering wheel.

Err what? Sim racers sell more than any other racing kind because of thier depth in gameplay.

Actually 4 is just enough for me. I wish GT5 only had 4 cars on track, because not only would the environments be a lot more realistic, the races would be more personal and intense.

I'd gladly miss this title if I could purchase a backpack for my PS3 and some portable pedals and steering wheels to play GT5 on the go, oops I forgot about a small tv, I think that answers your question, people buying this aren't looking for a replacement for their GT5 racing sim itch, but instead a portable gorgeous looking racing game that understands the importance of portability and as such is the reason they've implemented this share cars feature, think of it as the pokemon of cars.

It's obvious your talking about the level of customisation sim racers offer, from being able to tweak the horse power to more trivial and ostentatous tweaks like liveries, but I'm talking about the interactive part of gameplay, once your behind the wheel (which is the pespective most racing gamers consider when playing a sim no tweaking aspects, I'm proof of that :)), it essentially becomes a game of accelarating braking and turning, which is why arcade racers normally take it that step further by including some unrealistic feature like a simplistic drift mechanic or weapons etc, but I do get your point sadly you misunderstood mine. Case in point if there was enough depth in the gameplay, driving :), there would be no need for the plethora of cars one can unlock, but you see like most things the gameplay will become tedious thus something else needs to serve as incentive to persevere, it's a simple rule of life that applies to sims more than any other genre as they tend to mimic life :).

Except for the fact that the label "racing sim" is something that simply does not fit a Gran Turismo game, not up until GT5P at least.

I just don't get why anyone would want to play a "sim" on their PSP. Are we supposed to hook up a G25 to this thing? Come on now....

For this to actually be a more enjoyable portable title than say, Ridge Racers 2, would be shocking.

@omniscient: How could racing cars ever be tedious? I'm going to have to side with the sims > everything in terms of actual depth of gameplay.

I have to say, people labelling me differently in every thread I respond in is starting to amuse me. I think I've got equal opportunity hate from every camp because somehow I always come across a fan of "the opposition". :D

I just don't see how GT is an experience suitable to the quick bursts of gameplay situation a handheld ends up in more often than not. Surely, the investment needed to fully enjoy a game like this is rather (and better) spent with a proper console release. I just don't buy that this even equals "GT on the go" because with digital buttons replacing analogue acceleration and that little nub for steering, how is that any sort of replication of the full experience? Ridge Racers 2 is an excellent example of a title that works better because not only is it super arcadey with "career" progression suitable for short sessions of gameplay, but it's also barely an analogue racer even when you do play it on the PS3/360.

I just.. it kinda just strikes me as "we said we'd do it so here it is!" situation where people go ooOOoh about the tech aspects and.. don't actually play it. It'll be interesting to see how popular it is once it comes out.

Don't buy PSP GO, it is a rip.
There are too many unrealistic racing games, and their gameplay is far more boring and rubbish... Infact to me the only good racing games worth FULL price, are Burnout, Forza, GT. That's without becoming completely unreal like F-zero.

considering gt is a franchise like many other others whose controls are built around the dpad (ps one version) i dont think the controls will be a problem - far from it infact. Digital controls have never died for racers, even when more exotic controls are available, take mario kart as an example where dpad controls are prominent over both tilt and analogue nunchuk controls.

Whats up with the handling of the GTR? Looks like the back wheels are turning as well. Not something I'd expect from a GT game. Still, I would never play this game on a handheld. GT is barely playable with the dualshock, unless you use the analog sticks. wheel is the only way to go, with the triggers on the 360 or DS3 pad being the bare minimum to even think about playing this properly.
