Xbox 360 PS3

Ubisoft today released the demo of Tom Clancy's HAWX on Xbox 360 Marketplace in Europe, while the Playstation 3 PSN will get it tomorrow (PC February 26th). I've played it a couple of times tonight, so here's a video showing the second mission (first is training). I really like it so far, there's so much going on that you really feel like you're on a war field. Feel free to share your impressions of it in the comments section, as always.

Played it myself today and have to say i'm a bit disappointed tech-wise.
Textures & gameplay are both good and still superior to ace combat, but in hefty dogfights with lots of smoke an FX going on, HAWX tends to lag a bit. I mean, it's barely visible but yet interferes with control-responsiveness a bit. That said, it's still a quality game and on par with ace combat. Will definately buy it.

This is just one reason why many developers lock the fps on 30 for their games (Hawx runs with 60). If you fly through smoke or other FX effects the framerate drops immediately because the effect is in fullcsreen at this moment. It consumes a lot of ressources.

But I think I'll get this game, too. :)

I'm sorry, but in which way (graphics-wise) HAWX is suprerior to the last AC? I found that not only planes are less detailed, but so are buildings and other machines. The only thing that might be more detailed are terrains.

Oh and @toelessfoot, it's not any more sim than AC6... Devs added a bunch of tech to the hud because they think players are dumb, and can't shoot a tank with a missle. To me HAWX looks like AC6 for noobies, with everything made too user-friendly.
Seeing a net covering the battle-zone (city) was a complete let down for me.
The only more realistic thing about HAWX is that it does not have super-bosses, like Aigaion aerial aircraft carrier (which is a minus to me).
And videos representing chatter while on the mission are a joke...

It seems to me that HAWX is a rent, I'll be happy to complete some missions anyway as there are so little flying games on xbox...

I hope this is as good as it looks! Preferably as good as an Air Force Delta game. I wish Konami would make a new Air Force Delta, the Dreamcast and Xbox games were great! (Not saying the PS2 game wasn't great, just never played it.)

My own opinnion but I think this game represents what combat is all about. The assistance off mode does give that true feel to aerial dog fighting.

And that is one thing ace combat 6 failed to deliver. At times it felt very unreal to me with all the big bosses and what not.

So to have something this fresh is a relief for a lot of us.

Just finished the demo, game is amazing! At first, I freaked out at the control layout, but when I spent 2 minutes with it, the controls felt really intuitive. Assistance OFF is breathtaking. Lot of detail on the ground, too, good textures.

Some pretty funny remarks from your wingmen, too!

Pwning planes down the ERS path is very satisfying. BOOM!

am i missing something? true, it looks stunning when we're in this "assistance OFF" mode, but it makes me dizzy! like, what's the point of seeing with this weird free camera? It's really hard to maneuver. Really, i mean this in a really noob naive way.
I was expecting in this "assistance OFF" mode, a more realistic aproach, but get instead the complete arcade opposite...

otherwise, i found it quite fun!

Demo has been delayed for PS3 until the 26th due to "unforeseen technical problems"

Ubisoft you bunch of worthless amateurs.

Ace Combat is at least FUN and semi-realistic in how the planes behave, this game was utterly horrible in every single way.

And there is NO expert-mode as they called it. Its simply an exterior view..
This game is to air combat games what NFS Carbon was to racing games.
These kinda hollywood physics really disgust me. Next.

Assistance off mode is pretty nice and innovative enough fresh idea. it gives me a lot of massive war feeling and control is so easy and air combat looks very nice!
lots of guys comparing this to AC but i felt more like Battle Station:Midway type of game, war strategy/RTS and not much of a shooter when i try many assistance mode changes and lots of ERS maneuvres.
the environment graphic looks pretty nice from around 3000ft above but not so much when you are close to the ground.

1. You can evade missile lock very easily with this mode.
2. Drifting is a lot of fun, preying on your target in circles.
3. It's very free-flow, like controlling a bird in flight. Just gives me a good feeling.
4. The reason why you might feel dizzy, is you don't have any flight control. No ERS, no HUD, just your plane and the sky. It's supposed to be hard, so don't drop into it if you're not comfortable.

Im sorry as far as fun factor, this has Ace Combat beat. The assistance off mode makes things easier to see and makes maneuvering better. It makes you seem like your actually moving and gives a sense of speed unlike Ace Combat. It actually has good ground graphics too. The fighting is pretty good too. All and all, im worry about flight games but this warrants a Gamefly at least from me.

I think you missed (what I believed) the rather obvious Normal/Expert option in the beginning of every mission. Normal pretty much adds a gyro to your plane letting you make turns without having to worry about the rotation of your plane.

Expert makes the planes behave like they would in real life, or at least more so. I'm still annoyed though that it's possible to make one impossible loop after another without the pilot taking any beating whatsoever. I miss the old days when air combat simulator actually meant something, and when the planes didn't get loaded with miniature missile factories.

I never get why everything needs to be a sim. Hell, even "simulation" games aren't true to real life, because it would be impossibly boring. It would be sweet if you could drive( or fly) around for days before getting in an actual engagement, and then have said engagement last for four hours with 5 kills( between everyone). Or how about hours of flying with 8 missiles and 3000 rounds for your high rate of fire gun... All you need is convincing physics and some level of suspension of disbeleif. This game is great fun IMO...

True enough, and when you do get into an engagement chances are it will consist of launching a "hot group" of beyond visual range radar guided missiles and waiting for them to impact without ever seeing the enemy...yawn. I think Ace Combat got the blend between realism and fun pretty much correct as it is modern planes fighting at WW2 style ranges and you can get plenty of satisfying gun kills...

I will check out Hawx as there is literally nothing like it on PS3 but I am not expecting it to be better than AC (damn you Namco, get back on PS3).

I actually like the feel of this one better than AC( which I think was prettier). I love the assist-off control, makes it fun and intense, IMO. I also like the "sliding" mechanic, makes you feel like a badass maverik.
