This game had a ton of potential, but for me it is a no buy. I have been a fan of Driver since the first game (I even enjoyed driv-three-er), but show me where they have come up with a single innovation. The series is actually regressing from past titles. I'm sorry, but for an open world game in 2011 to not allow you to get out of the car because the devs were too lazy to make it playable? Unacceptable.

Also, pedestrians that miraculously always get out of the way and "shifting" magically between vehicles to overcome the game's shortcomings is just retarded. I still love the looks of the handling, but it's not enough for me. The whole time I played the game I would be thinking about how great it could have been.

True, true. Grand Theft Auto is about stealing cars also, should they ONLY let you steal cars in that game? I could give a ton of other examples, but I'm sure you get the idea. C'mon guys, let's not give developers excuses to take shortcuts in games here.

Maybe it was acceptable when the original Driver came out, but in 2011 who wants to play an open world game where you can't exit your car to explore? Where you can't go in a single building? Where you can't switch to another vehicle? (Oh wait, I guess you have magic powers and can "phase" into other vehicles).

Also, you typically play a cop in the Driver games. I'm pretty sure that cops are allowed to step out of their vehicles once in a while. What do you do, run all the perps over to win the missions? Driver games have been allowing you to get out of the car since the second one, now the player can't do it anymore? I understand the reason is because people complained about the quality of the on foot controls, but most competent devs would take that a sign they needed to IMPROVE them, not remove them.

Actually Driver has been about driving a car with top notch physics since the first game, not getting out of the car and walk into buildings. I myself is not getting any positive vibes from the whole shifting car from car but who knows how it will turn out. Tbh the graphics look like shit and SF as well.

burnout would be better if you could get out your car.......................................yeah.
removing features instead of fixing them is the hall stamp of this gen.

Bingo.

The devs obviously wanted the feel of the first driver (which by the looks of things they've acheived) while still alowing the freedom to switch vehicles. Driver has NEVER been about the on foot car jacking/shooting. It's about the driving, hell, big clue in the name. I'm happy they've gone for this approach. Context wise its weird, but knowing how they would do on-foot and how redundant it would feel they have most definately made the right choice.

Now if this was GTA a game that does the on-foot stuff well, where it is just as integral to the expetience as driving, and they announced they would remove it in place of car phasing, then tes, i'd be pissed. But for driver, where it isnt a big loss, then so be it. They've put fun before context, and when it comes to driving games, that's all i want....fun.

One of the major criticisms of Driver 2 & 3 was the on-foot feature so it's most likely that the developers decided to go back to what the fans wanted. There are plenty of open-world games that let you do what you want Driver: SF to do, why do you want all games to be like that? I'm sure there are plenty of people who just want a new action driving game. Are you going to complain if the new Ace Combat doesn't let you land, get out of the plane, run around on foot and enter buildings? Lol!

On-foot is what made Driver suck. I'm all for focusing on what works.

Burnout Paradise was actually pretty fun for an open world racer. The new Driver looks pretty promising.

Games like GTA4 always did a better job when it comes to vehicle + shooting mechanics. I'm glad the new Driver goes back to the more original gameplay of the series.

A playable Demo would be nice.

Driver. That says it all.

Gimme some of that, and I'll bite.

Actually, that's one game that if released in a "hi-def remake" or however they want to refer to it, you know, proper resolution, draw distance, physics, textures, poly's, CGI, whatever...
I would buy that.

I don't really give a crap about an open world. I mean yeah, you could cruise around the cities and invite trouble, but it didn't have weight for or against your progress in the missions.

My point is, what would you rather have:
Game A) Amazing open world driving game with great on foot and shooting mechanics and varied missions
or
Game B) Amazing open world driving game with driving missions.

Trust me, I know that Driver is all about the driving, I love series. I personally thought the game would be amazing and have much more variety if they just fixed the on foot sections. Hell, they have had an entire console gerneration to fix them. IMO, it would have made a much better, and much more varied gameplay experience.

To use your analogy, gamers have complained about the handling of the aircraft in Ace Combat. Should the developers have just eliminated player control and had the planes fly themselves? That way all you have to do is point at targets and it could shoot them too! Gamers complain about games being simplified and features being lost this gen, then they stick up for developers as "going back to their roots" when they obviously cop out of having to make game improvements.

To those that are defending this game: can you name me one thing this game looks as though it improves in the series?
