The First 10 Minutes: Burnout Box

The First 10 Minutes: Burnout Box

EA released Burnout Paradise: Ultimate Box on Xbox 360, PC and Playstation 3 last week. The package includes several additions to the game for a price of €40, all of the content is since earlier available through PSN/XBL. Here's a video showing some bike gameplay!

The package includes the three DLC packs, Bikes, Cagney and Party, as well as a couple of gameplay enhancements. These are things like a restart race option, easier control of various vehicles and the launch of the new Burnout Paradise Network on Playstation 3. Other than this, the box also takes the series to the PC platform for the first time.

The three content packs consists of:
Cagney, added multiplayer modes and new online challenges.
Bikes, added motorbikes, dynamic weather system and bike challenges.
Party, added offline multiplayer mode where players can pass the controller between eachother (no split-screen).

i was a huge fan of burnout revenge and takedown.

i really found it hard getting into burnout paradise, i think the lack of restart of races put me off and i dunno why, but the game felt too open for me

shelved it after playing abit, but i think i might take another shot at the game and check out these packs, might be worth giving it another shot

I wished it was more linear... Is that even the right word? I wish it was more menu's and standardised than how it is. Not keen on the open world and was a massive loss for me to not have a splitscreen mode.

I have only played Takedown before from the series. I tried the PC demo and while it was fun it didn't feel as fun as Takedown. I also read that there is no crash mode which was really fun :/ I didn't find it fun to drive around the city to get missions. Cool idea but it didn't really work this time.

same.

i still like the game. but it just isnt anwhere near as good as burnout 1/2/takedown or revenge. i liked the lap based, confined tracks. it allowed you to focus on racing ...now your have to keep track of where you're going and which turn to take to get to the finish line. it just isnt as fun anymore. but as you said, it was the lack of split screen that was the major issue for me. that and the absence of crash mode. the thing they replaced it with is terrible compared to the old games.

Yep, didn't want to buy this when it first came out, still don't want it now.

Crash and Cops really gave the goods in Burnout 2, the multiplayer aspect was so much fun! Still got 2 for the XBOX 1, love it to bits.

If the world wasnt so small, i'd buy it instantly.
If it only was at LEAST the size of the city in Midnight Club LA or something, with similar traffic, that'd be awesome.

I like the game, but it's bloody difficult to keep your eye on the track and at the same time looking at your compass and the minimap to know where to go.

So to be able to restart the race we have to buy this dlc?

that's what I've wondered. Does the original such so bad (UT3 style) you need to have an "upgrade" in order to restart the MF race?
My god, that sucks pretty hard.

No. The restart option is included with a FREE update, and was put in due to customer demand. It's a developer doing what the fans want for once, the opposite of sucking.

Well, I've noticed this series continually omitting options that have come to be expected.

I don't want to have to upgrade, free or not, to be able to restart a race.
Do these idiots even consider this kind of thing before releasing the game?

Oh, they probably did and figured "in an open world, there is no restart", blah blah blah.

they did, its the reason they cut srash mode and split screen, becasue there was no way to incorporate those modes in a seemless, menuless world. the idea behind the lack of restart was that there where so many races avaliable to you that once you failed a race you could simply move onto the next. which i get where they're coming from.

but to cut crash mode and split screen for the sake of keeping a seemless world...no thanks.

but then burnout isnt the only racer not to have such a major thing as split screen, PURE didnt either, or motorstorm 1. nor did midnight club LA. it's getting a bit rediculous tbh. racing games NEED split screen more then any other imo.

That makes sense. In fact I spent some time thinking about my previous response and figured about the same.
