Agree. I don't think this game gets near enough credit for it's look (which is b/c it's a multiplat).

When it's at it's best, this game looks better than anything else I've seen. I would say uncharted 2 is more consistent in some areas and Killzone 2 has better lighting model, but if you take the best level of each game, I would give the title to RE5 for sure.

The story was meh for me, but the mercenaries mode was very fun. Im tempted to pick this game up again for the co-op stuff.

Besides the graphics, this is the first game with impressive ingame animations and cutscenes.

Too bad the actual game was a big disappointment, compared to RE 4 in every possible way.

Considering how amazing and groundbreaking RE4 was for it's time, I thought it was pretty safe to say 5 had very little chance of living up to such a new and exciting experience. As a stand alone game though, RE5 isn't nearly as bad as many say it is. IMO at least.

Games as impactful as GTA3, Halo CE, RE4, etc all leave very little room for a sequal that feels anywhere nearly as amazing.

I have to agree, RE5 was still a great experience for me and I don't understand why people can't grasp the fact that unrealistic expectations always occur with sequels to hugely influential games. I think I enjoyed RE5 partly because I did not expect a game that "topped" the predecessor in every way but stood on it's own merits.

Sure it had a cheesy story (this is hardly a new thing for a series that built itself on schlock value) and I would have preferred at least the option of playing the game completely solo but they made the whole coop thing integrate pretty well on the whole and it broke new ground in the series to have two characters throughout the whole game.

I actually enjoyed resi 5 more than resi 4 because of the fantastic co-op modes, the biggest let down for me with resi 5 was the boss fights, they felt a bit dull compared to the ones in resi 4.

More like the reigning champion of rehashing their old games for a second retail launch.

RE5 wasn't even THAT good, what artard would go out and buy it again just to get some extra crap?

Jill pwns! But I like her S.T.A.R.S. outfit (or whatever it was in RE5) more :)

I must agree with Megido, btw.

If it wouldn't have the name "Resident Evil" in the title this game could be better. I mean RE4 already transformed into a pure third person "shoot em up". Weapon upgrades, no really zombies, no piece of atmosphere, only 2 or 3 puzzles etc.
It really doesn't fit the whole concept and design of RE games, if you ask me.

And RE5 was basically a RE4 with better graphics (puzzles removed, ...). Story was boring, too. I enjoyed playing RE5, of course, but as a different game and seeing it from a non-RE point capcom made a good job.
But it's just not the RE design and gameplay I loved from previous games (Code Veronica best RE imo) and that's why RE5 will never be as good as the "classic" games.

I hope after this DLC capcom goes back to the roots.

Excella = fan service :O

Would be nice to see 6 go back to its roots, hate the casual shooter feel of RE4 and 5.

Neither of the games are considered as Survival Horror in my eyes.

well, I don't know about buying it twice, though I do know it raises awareness of the game for those who haven't purchased it.
It will hopefully let the first version lower in price as well, as that's still around 50 bucks.

it's dropped to about half price over here. I bet you just looked at the very most expensive alternative :P

I think that Capcom basically said that RE5 would be the last game in the main series of games though.

"the last of its kind", was actually something I read somewhere else.
During a recent 1Up interview with Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi, he confirmed that RE5 will probably be the very last of its kind. In other words, as RE4 reinvented the long-running survival/horror series, RE6 will do the same thing.
Dont know if its true or not. We will see what comes next.

It isn't exactly a "Resident Evil" game, but Resident Evil hasn't been "Resident Evil" for years so I never had any issues with RE5. I'll be picking up the DLC, assuming it would be cheaper than double dipping on the gold edition.

Resident Evil 5 was more of the same in current gen consoles. I think even Capcom knows that. They havent tried to change the formulat. it was quite a good game imo but nothing more than that. Nothing outstanding about it.

I think we kissed the horror good bye since 4 to be honest. It still qualifies as survival in my book but not so much horror. They need to go back to scaring the hell out of like they used to with the first iterations...

Sequels are essentially more of the same. Change too much and people complain. However, I believe the FIRST thing that Capcom needs to do for the sequel is remove the partner. Not only does an idiot AI partner slow you down, it also takes away from the tension of a game (especially if you are playing it with a friend).
