GSY Video Xbox One

The French games show have never been known for having fresh brand new game builds to display, and this year's Paris Games Week certainly isn't any exception. Quite a few of our team was there yesterday evening for the "private" launch party, and came back with very few noteworthy videos. Still, let's start with a game we always struggled to film correctly, Ryse: Son of Rome with the now usual coop mode.

Why are they keeping the single player of this game so guarded? It is either terribly good or terribly bad.

Even at the tour event there is no single player.

There is plenty of single player footage out there, but the want to keep the story underwraps as much as possible, i think GTTV have some single player stuff this week?

The MP settings look amazing.

I like:

The awesome looking environments
The details to the character models, you can see the pain reactions on enemies when you slash them in slow-motion.

Chopping off arms, legs.
Even the skirts move realistically, not static
how crisp it all looks, little to no aliasing

I dislike:

The character's walking/running animation, seems not as realistic as some other games. Doesn't seem as realistic as GTA V, Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs.

I miss some real blood flowing around too.

The visuals and art style still look charming, but ill say it does seems true what people have been complaining about the gameplay. From this 6 minutes alone it does feel like it can be quite repetitive after a while. The gameplay lacks ideas and a bit more fun for a next gen tittle this genre and with this visuals. I hope it gets better through the story as you unlock new abilities, new moves and more weapons.

Yeah the animations leave a lot to be desired. I think what hurts this game is just how sluggish the fighting looks. It's not technically slow, it just looks very clumsy and not at all fluid. It reminds me of the equally clumsy looking game deep down, nice to look at the scenery but harsh to watch the game play.

this part of the game still looks disappointing to my eyes... choppy animations, and cant say i'm too impressed with the visuals - maybe its just not translating well. Cant say i'm impressed with that loading time either.

Reminds me a lot of assassin creeds training. That was fun working on your kill streaks and getting them on the leaderboard. So maybe this will play better than it looks.

Much rather see single player now

Yeah, I mean, the visuals are nice for a launch title, but I think everyone is getting carried away with that. It looks very good, but remember it's just a launch title and that there will be a lot better looking stuff to come from next gen, even from the weakest and worst console ever made. I mean, it's a big surprise that Ryse looks this good coming out of a console that would struggle playing Doom 1 in 1080p, so it'll be a huge shocker when something inevitably better looking turns up on the platform. But in all seriousness, I think we should all be excited from what to expect from the PS4 and the X1 in the near future.

this game desperately needs a rear-block animation, either overhead sword block, or overhead shield block. becasue rotating an entire 180 to block an attack with absolutely no transition looks jarring as hell. like, japanese animations level of jarring...

aside from the lack of fluidity in the animation though, it looks nice graphically.

I thought it did have a rear block? It looked like it did when they were showing the vid doc on it. Maybe you have to unlock or upgrade your character as you go to be able to perform it? Would make sense.

why would you unlock a purely aethetic block animation....that seems weird. i mean, the guy can clearly block any attack from the rear anyway...he just spins 180 to face the enemy in the space of 1 frame and blocks using the "shield up in front of you" animation. but yeah, maybe that's all the unlocks are? animations? god knows

Maybe it's a skill, or depends on fighting style. Being able to block attacks from behind whilst attacking someone head on just means you can take on more than one person in a scrap. Could be a leveling up thing. Or maybe it's just already in there, but you've to time a button tap to block like you do in counter attacks in Batman.

I think crytek or someone else said there was going to be single player footage in a couple weeks. 25 minutes of it.

Man the animation sucks in this game. The gameplay isn't at all fluid or smooth either. They need to take a look at the batman games and get some ideas on how to do 3rd person hand to hand. I like the backdrops and era, but unfortunately the game is going to suffer visually running on the Xbox720p.
