GSY Video Switch Wii U

The arrival of a new Zelda is always a big event in the small world of video games. So it was with unfeigned excitement that we launched The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild on Nintendo Switch for the first time. If we have not had time to really enjoy the game yet, we still took the time to capture some high quality gameplay videos. No spoilers to fear, the embargo is quite strict, so you will see only exploration, fights, and some items picked up here and there.

Thanks a lot for these videos, davton!

And thanks to Nintendo for not forgetting Gamersyde when it came to sending consoles early to the press. Hopefully, they start sending high quality trailers of their games as well from now on.

And while they may be only exploration and fights ones, this is the first time we have The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild videos in high quality that aren't off camera on Gamersyde.

Now we can truly appreciate how beautiful the game really looks without YouTube's horrible quality making many things look bad. So please keep them coming.

Also, can you please tell us when the embargo ends? This way we know when we can expect more in-depth videos. But if Nintendo's NDA says you guys can't say when it ends, that's okay.

Maybe it's me, but why does this game receive all this hype? I mean, what is special about it. If I watch the videos, it looks like a simplified RPG, with pretty bad audio design (not talking about the music). Graphics are nothing special at all also.

That is why. Outside of that, you have millions of articles, videos, blogs, forums and user comments on why they think The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild is going to be a very great game. Just take your pick.

How about game design and actual gameplay that's a benchmark in the industry? Zelda isn't an RPG. It tried that once and thankfully didn't go back. It's an action adventure, and that's exactly what you get in both words.

The systems, mechanics and how dynamic everything is what makes this game stand out, its also zelda which people love. I ve never played a zelda game but im glad this looks to be amazing and hopefully other games will be inspired by what they ve achieved. One question though, does the actual gameplay feel good? Because ive heard many praise its mechanics but they don't talk about gameplay feel which is super important

I don't mind the graphics because it looks beautiful anyway but i definitely wish switch was more powerful so it could support the artstyle to its fullest.

it definitely is incredibly dated in regards to visuals and sound design (few games these days have such basic and limited sounds for actions and footsteps etc). and i've never liked zeldas gameplay much at all, but i do understand why people do. this new one seems to have taken a ton of stuff we've seen from other games, and merged them into the same zelda everyone loves to make something that may not exactly be genre defining anymore, but it's at least charming.

The Witcher 3 is the most popular RPG out there and you don't get more "simplified" than that.

Zelda looks incredibly well designed.

Below are a few excerpts from an article by EuroGamer's Oli Welsh, who is doing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's review for EuroGamer:

"1. It's good. Very, very good."
"2. It's the most radical shake-up the Zelda series has ever had."
"the game is lots of fun."

Those are the only things he can say due to Nintendo's "extremely complex embargo forbidding everything from plot details to certain kinds of clothing", his words. And the rest he is saving for the review, though it most likely will be an "Essential" badge from EuroGamer by the sound of it.

EuroGamer - Watch: Breath of the Wild is the bravest Zelda ever - A break with the past.:

All the systems they have put on display look extremely polished. Combat, traversal, even crafting.

The game just looks great. Not for us to force that opinion on you. Not really worth my time to try to argue about it.

Don't you want more single player games?

To me the best thing is how all the different systems' physics work both individually and together in harmony. And that applies to almost everything in the game.

I really, really hope that if the industry takes something from the game is that, because outside of AI, life-like physics simulation and having them work together like they do in real life is the thing I most want developers to work on. And unfortunately, that's one of the areas that are least worked on most games, just like AI.

Not just all of that, but the way you progress in Zelda games too. The dungeons are all practically big puzzles that have to be solved, instead of just going room-to-room, fighting something, and then just moving onto the next until you're done. No hand holding bullshit, apart from Navi and Midna in past games giving you hints. It also looks like they've taken physics and your interaction with the world and allowed you to think for yourself on how to progress to certain areas, or achieve certain things. It's various aspects of design applied with a purpose, rather than being put in there because it looks cool.

The other great thing about physics and the way they interact with the world, is that many puzzles have different ways of being solved. Which reminds me a lot of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist's hundreds of ways of achieving your objectives.

Nintendo spent many years developing Breath of the Wild and they have polished it a lot. The fact that te game was delayed from its original 2015 date and then from the 2016 date as well really looks to have payed off.

When it comes to games, no company is better than Nintendo and this time they clearly went the extra mile, just can't imagine this game being anything other than simply brilliant. Hopefully, it will bring more people to The Legend of Zelda franchise and make them become fans.

Those graphics are so bad, How can a console coming out 3 years after the dreadful Xbox One be less powerful? How on earth is that possible?

Im sure the game is decent but 2013 wants it's graphics and sound back.

I was never interested in Nintendo games before but Botw caught my interest because of those reasons. Im not gonna buy a switch because there are so many games this year but this game definitely looks amazing.

Btw is the AI good in this game? Also not to discredit the game's physics which are awesome but one of the reasons they were able to go the extra mile was because its stylized. For a example when you cut trees down with your weapons and they turn magically into branches, you can't do that in a realistic looking game as easily.

Seriously, this is the kind of comment that just doesn't deserve a response, but I'll enlighten your ignorance anyway.

This game started development the better part of 4 years ago, based off of hardware barely more advanced than an Xbox 360. Make sense to you now, or does your head still hurt?

Well if they're 10 years behind Microsoft, they've got a few years until their first parties experience a shocking decline in quality! Sounds like a good place to be.

That lack of aniso filtering... you can literally see horizontal lines where the textures drop in res. like what most dreamcast games had. colour looks pretty bad, did you not have it on full rgb? ir is it supposed to look misty and washed out? Sad that it's not even in 1080p while docked. would have been nice for the extra bit of detail. oh well.
