Square-Enix took the time to send us a nice pile of postcards from Final Fantasy XIV. They showcase beautiful bucolic landscapes, inspired artworks and a gallery of the different races of characters we'll be able to embody. For a MMORPG, the visuals are remarkable.

I am in Aion beta and I this is my first MMORPG and I love it, so if the combat is like that then I will look into this one...on PC.
The combat in Aion is like any other MMORPG I have seen were you click on various icons for attacks or items...etc. and your character does them in that order, fast too. My guess it won't be the same here and this game won't be free to play either like Aion which I won't bother with.
And I think it looks good for a MMO.
Other than that I yet have to see a MMORPG that would delight me. I hope they somewhat stick to their foundation they build with FFXI, as it is quite different from other MMORPGs, but try to be more accessible and less time consuming.
Also, FFXI combat is only "menu based" in terms of the UI, it's a timed combat system just like most MMORPG's.
I never cared for XI though, too Everquest-ish for my taste. I wish they would have made completely new races for this instead of using similar races from XI, kind of boring this way.
If what Grift says is true about the combat then count me out on this one.
And no, I don't want too much. Considering I was NEVER into MMORPGs and Aion changed my mind in its combat. As long as its not "you attack.wait.enemy attacks.wait. you attack". You can interrupt the enemies attacks anytime in Aion as long as attack images are active which I like, and I don't consider that "timed".
But once you do use the attacks you have to wait for it to "rebuilt" a few seconds, but then other attacks are available, so the combat keeps going and going.
2) I said timed, not turned based. There's a huge difference. Timed combat is based on attack and effect cool down.
"Turn based" doesn't really belong in an MMORPG discussion. I can't think of one MMORPG that uses any sort of turn based system.

And about the "timed" I guess you could be a bit more specific so I wouldn't be specific, but now I know :)
Most of my MMO loving friends are.. well.. loving it.
The Art direction is probably good but that's to be expected in all FF games.
I'm mildly interested in this. If there is honestly a deep storyline on par with the other main title Final Fantasy's (which the producers claim), I may have to check it out.

Actually, comparing this anyother MMO out there, this is really beautiful, though maybe a little uninspired. But, if you compare it to what other upcoming MMOs look like...
