Already known thanks to its announcement in Japan a few days ago, Knights Contract is made official for Europe and North America. In this game loosely based on a Germanic legend, the player will take control of Heinrich a badass warrior and will have Gretchen with him, the vixen sorceress who wants to destroy Doctor Faust. The game is set for a launch in 2011 on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Fistful of images and the debut trailer inside.
Press release:
NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe S.A.S. today lifted the lid on fantasy horror title Knights Contract, its newest 3rd person action adventure title scheduled for European launch in 2011 for PlayStation®3 and Xbox 360®.
A period action adventure set in the days when a healthy paranoia about witches was considered de rigeur, Knights Contract follows the tale of Heinrich, a cursed executioner of witches, and young girl Gretchen, a reincarnation of a witch whom Heinrich previously had the job of be-heading and who returned the favour by cursing him eternally.
When a stupendously evil and deadly threat descends on the earth, Gretchen, having had her young life curtailed once already, decides she is less than enthusiastic about seeing it ended again so soon. She decides to tackle the threat head-on by putting her curse on Heinrich to good use, enlisting his business-like and highly effective executing abilities to help curb the supernatural blood lust of their foes.
Nothing is so easy of course, and a lot of blood and its supernatural equivalent needs to be spilled before order can once again be restored to the land. Razor sharp scythes and explosive sorcery are your spectacularly effective weapons in a twilight world where you’re never more than a stone’s throw from someone, supernatural or otherwise, who would rather see you six feet under. It’s time to let the combos fly and lay waste to the hordes of darkness with a liberal dose of medieval panache.

Hopefully the character gets a hold on a sword and other weapons, sword atleast.
Combat seems surprisingly good as well IMO.
The design reminds me a bit of Dragon Age and Fable for some reason, not a bad thing.
Cant wait to see more.
btw: i am german and we dont have a legend with heinrich and gretchen beating doctor faust.
and german knights dont wear such armor.
it looks to japanese for me (for a german "legend" based game)
the name gretchen is german but in our time no one is called like that in germany, there are right now more girls in the usa with this name than ever lived in germany.
so epic fails with story line and charakter design but its nice to see that japanes like our "culture" ^^
:oP
I think when he says the game is loosely based on a german legend, that is exactly what he means, you know:
"Names and addresses have been changed to protect the innocent, blah, blah, blah..."
Still, like you say, it is nice to have your culture recognised, although Germanic culture isn't confined to Germany, and in fact dates back to Roman Times, so could belong to almost any of the North-European cultures.
:o)
Bayonetta....,Van Helsing,a bit of Splatterhouse,some Berserk in there too...Yeah
The screen definitely wet my appetite !
I have a good feeling so far....hope the gameplay turns out well....Castlevania and this. Could be my year !
:oP

its funny to see that germany is bavaria for most of you, but we have 16 states in germany and every one has is own culture and traditional costumes.
and where i live no one ever wears a lederhose
so please dont associate germany with bavaria, thats a big mistake from the hole world.
game looks good but even its loosely based on german legends its wrong. we dont have such legends in germany we have legends like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nibelung
and faust is a famouse charakter from gothe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goethe%27s_Faust
but this game is from the mind of a non german dev. and has nothing to do with our culture ore legends. (and dont come with the nazi shit this is not our culture, this is the worst moment in history)
btw: german knights look like this: http://www.freye-templer-septentrio.de/attachments...
I meant Germanic culture, not German culture (a difference), and the Lederhosen comment was very much just a joke (I have a German colleague at work and we exchange banter like this all the time!).
It's a japanese game, and as most of us well know, they tend to be pretty off-the-wall when it comes to plot, characters, story, etc. I wouldn't take it too seriously.
To be honest, I'm glad they didn't base this game on Dwarves, they are quite hard to hit and it would be boring.
It gives off a real Darksiders vibe--and not in a good way.

i know that the lederhosen comment was a joke but i tired of hearing it especially as an non bavarian. i am from thuringia and we have a great history and culture. my small town (17.000 people) is over 1134 years old and we have much older citys here in germany. in most countries nearly all poeple think that whole germany looks like bavaria (with the "lederhosen", "weißwurst" and "oktoberfest") but thats a big fail. just google the 16 states of germany and you see the difference.
japanese poeple are crazy (in a good way) and i like most of their games (bayonetta) but i dont like that the use the german theme without having a german background. i would be proud if someone would make a game about germany ore which takes place in germany but without nazis. this game is far away from making me proud.
btw: assasins creed could take place in germany so easily but no one does it.
so dont get me wrong. the game itself seems to bee some AA coop game with a Middle Age theme and 1 german name. heinrich is a normal name in germany but gretchen is so extremely rarely that even the names fail (but i know that in the usa gretchen is a normal name for girls) so please understand that i only mean (as a german) this game has nothing to with germany and i mean NOTHING.
greetings to whole world from germany :)
