GSY Video Xbox One

Our friend Dark10x is back from Microsoft with an awesome surprise: he got to record his gameplay session of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, in single player mode. So here is the first one, with a second one to come.
Update: Added the second video.

I could be wrong, but both SP and MP would be 60fps?

^No, 60 FPS is only for multiplayer.

Looks OK in this particular level because of the nature of the environment (night, light sources, rain).
I still think however that Ultimate Edition overall completely fails to recreate the atmosphere and style from the original game with new graphics. Its like it completely lost it's soul somehwere during their remastering work. A remaster like this is supposed to capture the same feel and look, only with more modern and technically advanced graphics IMO. In this regard it fails, the whole style is changed in a apparaent way.
I've seen some videos on Youtube from the opening hours and the daylight levels in the beginning of the game just looks hoirrbly flat and clinical in a way the original didn't. Too clean and it lacks contrasts between sunlit and shadowed areas etc...
Too bad, because I looked so much forward to this.
I still do but I'm very dissapointed with the direction they took with the visuals. And from a pure technical standpoint its very underwhelming as well - I wish they developed the game theirselves instead of teaming up with a external studio (Splash Damage), but there wasnt time for doing both this and Gears 4 in-house obviously...
Kind of typical Microsoft to put their teams under such hard deadlines (less than a year in this case I read).
This should really look INCREDIBLE considering it was a graphical benchmark when it came out for 360, and the only thing they hhad to worry about this time was to upgrade it. No changes to gameplay or anything, the game was done in all other areas.

Im playing God of War III at the moment and it sometimes seriously looks better than this although its only a 1080p/60fps remaster rather than complete overhaul.

Oh ok, i honestly thought it was 60fps all the way. Well it's exactly what i hope for Gears 4 as well. I want some real awesome graphics in Gears 4 and that's not going to happen with 60fps.

Ugh, too much motion blur, again. When will dev realize that motion blur is really a love / hate thing?

As always. still far way from STF5, Chun Li could manhandle all of them. Until these guys resort to using their chainsaws of course.

Motion blur should be extremely subtle, absent at slow speeds and dynamic according to speed of travel and camera motion etc if you notice it its being done wrong.

I can't believe this is only 30fps for sp. No excuse to not do a remaster of a LAST GEN game at 60fps, upgraded or not, unless of course the chincy hardware isn't up to the mediochre task. I'll be playing the whole game at 60 (or above) on my PC.

People are so mis-informed.

The reason it's 30fps, is simply because this is not a straight up port of Gears 1, the redid all the assets and improved the graphics. This is a complete graphics overhaul, and they spent more resources improving the look of single player, which means sacrificing 60fps on console. If you want 60fps 4k, you can get that on PC. Simple....

Surprised nobody has praised the coalition for removing the grey color filter the game use to have. It would be dumb to hear people all of sudden miss it after the complaints. You can always play the original game, it's going to be free now.

You know you just can't satisfy people when the Gears 4 demo was shown the reaction was "it's too dark " and with this stage in Gears ultimate is "it's too bright it should be dark like the original" and you're right so many complained about the grey filter and now they want it back, you just can't win. I personally think the game looks phenomenal the coalition have done a great job and are giving the whole gears collection for free . My hats off to them for a true remaster and stepping in the right direction I only wish they didn't become just a Gears studio.

brightness and colour arn't really related.

gears 4 was too dark. as in it was fucking night. you couldnt see shit in that demonstration.

this remake is too colourful and has lost a lot of the gritty tone the original had going for it.

plus they all look like gnomes. lol
