Ubisoft has dropped a new gameplay trailer for Far Cry 3, full of action and explosives. It also shows Doctor Earnhardt, the island's resident pharmacist, as well as the deranged inhabitants, diverse terrain and exotic creatures. Coming September 4.
Here's what I'm curious about: I know it's just a game and all, but how is it that the main character in this game, who is supposedly just an ordinary fella on holiday, can shoot any kind of weapon, hang glide, operate and plant explosives, throw knives with deadly accuracy and generally act like Rambo on steroids, taking out swaths of baddies without so much flinching or breaking a sweat? I don't get the logic Ubi wants to use here when they say they don't want a character with military background, but if they don't want that, then how can it be even remotely plausible for any ordinary Joe to do what you can do in this game?

also, I think Crytek will be showing Crysis 3 next month, way more excited about that
Why? These are both sequels to bad games. Seems like they're on equal footing to me.

You're not alone in this cognitive dissonance, this question came up in the latest EDGE. This is why I have issues with Nathan Drake. Only in I Am Alive or Alan Wake have I noticed the limitations of the characters in the gameplay.
It's a hard issue to solve, because are FPS gamers patient enough to go from the inexperienced character with bad aiming and jamming weapons to efficient badass throughout the course of the game? How do players feel when the power fantasy and wish fulfillment of FPSs is not prominent the moment you start the game?
This RPG-like progression for a game that isn't Deus Ex or STALKER is very rare, but it'd be cool if a developer was brave enough to try it while somehow satisfying the shooter fans.
Far cry 2 was the most boring game i've played. It's going to take a lot for them to convince me this is anything but more of the same. Ubisoft are masters of uninteresting gameplay mechanics, hopefully this is the much needed exception to that rule. Definately wont be listening to reviews tho, it was them that got me to buy far cry 2...bastards.

That's really a problem?
From a gameplay perspective, no. I think I already made it clear when I said "I know it's just a game". But...if you want a narrative, then absolutely yes, it is a problem.
Good trailer... got me hyped... and MMMmmmMMMMushrooms... reminds me of a game i played 25 years ago ... if the main character in Farcry 3 is a plumber ... MUST BUY ! ;)
lol far cry 3 will be pretty much the same as far cry 2 just with better visuals and non degrading wepons other than that you still dont get fast travel and no doubt will still have hundreds of respawning check points, if you really dont like the game just avoid it and wait a few months for the next inevitable COD game with its linear gameplay and very short story mode.

Jesus...talk about a 'rock and a hard place' choice...lol.
My dilema. I am a graphics whore and I refuse to pay for Gold but we know visually the 360 version will be the best for consoles, I'd play it on my PC but I prefer playing games with a controller and Achievements/ Trophy are always another draw. Which to get is the only question I need answered.
60 FPS, is this console gameplay? If so, then this is bad news. The graphics will be significantly hurt by that, and I have to say that I was disappointed with the graphics in this video. Far Cry 2 looked a lot better, this looks very artificial and plasticky.

It seems unlikely in this day and age that the PC version wouldn't fully support the Xbox controller.
Why, oh why, do they have make a trailer that essentially bends over to all the modern Hollywood cliches. The flashy editing and overbearing score are utterly tasteless.
Not to mention part of the music seems directly copied from Inception.

True true, but I enjoyed Crysis 2 way more than Far Cry 2. Far Cry 2 as just boring, it wasn't a bad game but it was extremely boring and had some comical design choices.
But you are right, I think I am excited to see another big budget Cry Engine 3 game, the engine is simply amazing!! But yea after reading the thread about crytek treating their employees like dirt (on neogaf) then having some big names walk out the door... I don't think they will make a good game again (at least the German studio won't), the UK studio on the other hand might be on to something with Homefront 2 (I loved Crysis 2's multiplayer)

Loved Crytek's FarCry 1, hated Ubisoft's FarCry 2, willing to give Ubisoft's FarCry 3 a chance based on this trailer.
Far Cry was complete crap (graphics aside) one of the most overhyped games ever. Shitbin AI, terrible trigens which ruined the game with their ugly designs and aimbot aiming not to mention the game becomes a chore after they show up

dont you think you're jumping the gun there, how can you be so sure the 360 version will be better than the ps3, more recently multiplats have either been exactly the same or slightly better on ps3 thanks to developers now being used to the more complex programming of the ps3.
by the time this comes out ill have left the console market in favour of the PC gaming market, im just sick and tired of this gen and it looks like the next gen of HD consoles from microsoft/sony wont arrive till late 2013 or early 2014, im used to the life cycle of consoles being every 5 years so building a games rig for £685 is roughly the same as buying 2 new next gen consoles but effectivly having the ability to upgrade when i want rather than waiting 8 - 10 years for a new console.

Hunting confirmed?
Also cool that the doctor looks younger at the end of the video with black hair. Probably an effect of the drug.

I do hope it is not an indication the game.

Anyways, hopefully this turns out good! AKA not Far Cry 2 :P
