Techland and Warner Bros released this long gameplay presentation of Dying Light, a surprisingly interesting mix of Dead Island (same developer) and first person Parkour. The video itself is "only" 720p, but runs at 60 fps.
I dunno if i'm going to be ok if a lot of games go 60fps next gen, it makes me a feel a bit nausous. I seems to be ok in racing games or fighters etc. but something with this much motion makes me feel sick. Game looks cool though, but that last bit looks like all control had been taken away from the player. Basically a cut-scene.
It looks like a cool followup to Dead Island, but not exactly befitting of the "next-gen" moniker. This just looks like a current gen game spruced up for PC. Which we already get. It's engine is clearly rooted firmly in the current gen of consoles. I think once developers are able to stop straddling the generation gap we'll start to see some, graphics-wise, truly impressive things. Until then, I guess we'll have to work with the likes of BF4, Watch Dogs, and this.
I cannot understand for the love of god why they brought back the electric machete. it is seriously one of the worst design choices for a game like this. stuff like that works in Dead Island, a game that built itself off ridiculous zombie killing. For a game that is going for a more realistic approach, it is extremely out of place and very cheesy. also not very cool to use. why not just replace it with a more powerful, cleaner looking machete with a more creative stun feature? its a very poor design in my opinion that doesn't fit in with the setting.
how I imagined the devs coming up with the electric machete:
"How can we make distinguish this machete from a typical machete? hmmm..."
-"DUDE!!!!! PUT ELECTRICITY ON IT!!!!!!!!!! THATS SO RAD!!"
"BRILLIANT! But why stop there? lets put it in every zombie game we make for now on yea?"
liking what I see.. animations look improved, 60fps really makes a difference, the lightings awesome, and looks to be more zombie on screen. The only thing visually that stuck out like a sore thumb was the girl who's character model looks like it could have been grabbed right out of dead island.
I'm wondering, other than the setting, just how close this will be to dead island. If the rpg elements will be there.. it's noticeable that points aren't spraying from every hit so will be interesting to see if mmo style grinding will still be present..and just how good the game will be without those elements. I hope there's at least co-op still

the electric weapons were in dead island too.. so looks like the blue prints are still gonna be there. I have no idea what that radar sense thing is about though.. how they work that into the story.. I really hope he's not got some sort of "powers"

This is coming to next and current gen. Which footage is this from then would you know BlimBlim? (the 720p suggests current gen though)
The video is 720, the game may not be. I feel like we've seen some 1080p stuff from the game but it is coming to PC, so who knows what version that was. There is no fucking way that a game looks this good, runs at 60, and is on a current gen console. Come on son.

Don't use it then jack ass. That's what makes games awesome, free freakin' will. The game won't force you to use them, so you can just use more grounded upgrades. I agree it's kind of a dumb upgrade both logically and just thematically, but that doesn't make the game bad, it just means I won't use them.
Holy crap the NA server is fast! Noice.

Don't be a jerk. His criticism is a valid one. Consistency in the setting and tone is a good thing. As for them forcing you to use it, are you sure? What if it's all there is? What if some enemies are literally impossible to beat otherwise?
I'm asking myself what may be the polling rate of that gamepad they're playing this with ? 20Hz ? Even though it's a 60fps video, it seems to have stuttering due to a crappy input device...

Pretty much agree on all points. Anyone who thinks that video is even possible on current gen didn't watch it very closely. The texture detail combined with the fluid framerate along with the amount of things going on (particles, physics, animation, vegetation, background animation etc) not to mention the number of enemies on screen, pretty much limit this to next gen consoles or a fairly high end pc.
As for the weapon design, I hated the electric machete in DI and I hate it just as much in HD. However, like you said, you don't HAVE to use it. I never touched it in DI because it was stupid, and I HIGHLY doubt they are going to force you to use it this time.
Overall this game looks very nice in my opinion. I thought Dead Island was very underrated, and a lot of fun despite its shortcomings. This looks to remedy most of them, as well as adding the nice free running touch and gorgeous visuals. The only thing that looks like it could use some work is the impact physics of the melee. It looks alright, but a little less brutal and physical than DI or something like condemned. Other than that looks great!
Looks good overall! I like the free-running mix that gives the player lots of mobility.
What I don't like (besides the already mentioned electric machete) is the ridiculous combat system (nonsensical pseudo-realistic ways of killing and "power-attacks") and the night-sense (which should just be scrapped completely to make night gameplay even more realistically difficult!).
idd yet another zombiegame but this looks cooler then deadrising3 .
