Press release:

GREAT CHALLENGE AWAIT THE IRON-WILLED IN DARK SOULS™ II

FromSoftware Throws Down the Gauntlet to Gamers Seeking Unparalleled Adventure and Hard Fought Glory, Coming to PlayStation®3, Xbox 360® and PC

PARIS, FRANCE – December 8, 2012 – Leading video game publisher and developer NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe today announced that the critically acclaimed Dark Souls saga marches forward with Dark Souls™ II, currently in development at FromSoftware in Tokyo, Japan, for PlayStation®3, Xbox 360® and PC. Dark Souls II will continue a legacy of presenting its passionate fans with the kind of unrelenting challenges that have become a hallmark of the series, while presenting devilish new obstacles for players to overcome.

Built upon the foundation established by Souls series creator and Dark Souls II Supervisor, Hidetaka Miyazaki, with development helmed by FromSoftware Director Tomohiro Shibuya, Dark Souls II will feature a new hero, a new storyline, and an unfamiliar world for players to survive in while delivering the uncompromising challenge and ultimate sense of empowerment that players hunger for. Epic battles with gruesome enemies and blood-thirsty bosses await adventurers as they traverse and conquer a devastated world filled with death and despair. Players will also discover a revamped server based multiplayer experience that will put a distinct Dark Souls II twist on the concept of playing and sharing with others. For those with enough tenacity and sheer force of will, great rewards await.

“There are few games that are as rewarding for players as the Dark Souls series, and Dark Souls II will give every player that steps up to take the challenge a feeling of empowerment that they will never forget,” said Olivier Comte, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Distribution at NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe. “The game doesn’t accept compromise, and neither do the brilliant people at FromSoftware who will test their own tenacity as well as that of gamers in delivering us another gaming landmark.”

“This new chapter in the Dark Souls saga presents opportunities for us to drive innovation in gameplay design, develop an entirely new story, and expand the scope of the world in which the player interacts with the game. We have taken these necessary steps with Dark Souls II in order to evolve the overall experience of the Dark Souls series,” says Tomohiro Shibuya, FromSoftware Director on Dark Souls II. “The entire development team is striving to make Dark Souls II an experience that is fresh while not forsaking its roots in presenting players with challenging gameplay. Our goal is to surprise and delight our fans with new experiences and plot twists while enticing new players to join our dark journey.”

More details surrounding Dark Souls II will become available in the months leading to its release. Begin your Dark Souls II journey at www.DarkSoulsII.com or join the Dark Souls II conversation on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/DARKSOULS.

Loved Demons Souls, I think is the Best Action RPG ever created, put something like 60-70 hours in it.

That being said I will not get hyped for this because I still need to play Dark Souls first, if is anything like Demons Souls Im pretty sure I will love it too.

THat being said, this trailer is beyong amazing.

No really, only half-Life 3 in 2013 would top this GOTY.

make the list and i'll arrange it in order if you like.

So refreshing going trough the trailer and recognizing some locations, a bit altered, from the original Dark Souls. Anyone that was suspicious in the first second was sold half a minute into it.

make multiplayer better so its possible to actually invite friends rather than go through tedious guess work, i'm in. Forcing people to play with strangers never makes for a better online experience.. thats if the net code works at all.

What are you doing here? Go play Dark Souls. It's superior to Demon Souls if you ask me, it feels a "bit" more polished in most areas and I especially like the world design a lot better than Demon Souls.

Like I said: What are you doing here!???

Only thing I like about it is the armor design and the environments, especially seeing both with the dragon in the snow, pure norse vibe...and Skyrim!
Love the design in this one, one of my favorites.

Yeah thats it lol

nah thats just wrong, in the context of the game, creating covenants and going against bad players, or just plain evading, it's pretty much a stragers game. if the game added a option of be playing with friendd all the time over that, it would break the concept, i think.

in that you're right. can't make major game parts that are important, and having netcode connectivity fail half the time.

at leat it worked really smoothly when it connected, and that too was really important.

LOL
I remember one level in Demons Souls that was exactly like that! narrow tunnel type place, a platform was triggered and arrows came from behind or front. Only way to avoid it was to stick to one of the sides as pressed as possible to avoid that.

This game is just remember and memorize every single thing after many trials and errors until it becomes natural.

i disagree. There's classes in the game, and the option to join other peoples games.. it seems like a waste when you cant take full advantage of that by working with someone you know and know is a different class to you. It should add a greater dynamic to the game otherwise it seems pointless to have that option to join others in the first place. Keep the invading worlds, ghosts, and writings...but get rid of co-op altogether if you cant invite friends and communicate.

Another thing that greatly needs work on is the framerate. Demon souls the framerate wasnt great but was kept playable. Dark souls..when you go to the underground section leading to the half spider half naked woman its almost unplayable at points because the framerate takes such a dive. If the engine cant handle the complexitys of wooden structures all around (which both games framerate has suffered with) then keep it out of the game.

Bonfires i like but kinda hate at the same time. They've taken alot of pressure off and made dark souls far easier than demon souls. Its easy to use them to help level up and get too over powered..to the point where you're just going through the motions of grinding alittle running back to a fire to rehealth and leveling up. You dont have to use them but the tempatations too much. Maybe put a limit on how long they burn for, or have it cost something to set them alight.

the game doesn't really have "classes". It's most presets on how starts levels will be dispersed between the characters. You can do almost everything with a pair of classes. Maybe it's bad game design, but for a game that makes you speend so much time with your character and you can't just speedrun in 5 hours and jump on Ng+ for another character, it's for the best.
