I tried it like a month ago for the first time and i have to say that no, it's not THAT good. It's very overrated, at least by todays standards. I have a hard time seeing this kind of release as anything but fan-service though.

Errrr... Every single game will be overrated by 10 years beyond standards... Even Zelda Ocarina of Time.

Zelda: OoT was overrated as shit on release, so that was a bad example. But actually no, not all games do feel old and stale, even after some 20 years. Just look at, for example, Mario 3. It's still one of the best side scrolling platformers out there and it's old. Megaman, streetfighter and so forth are examples of games that have stood the test of time on a whole other level than this particular one has.

Well it's quite possibly my favourite game of all time, so I'd like to think it's pretty darn good.

I've been waiting for this to be released for aaaaages, so I'm ecstatic that it's finally happened. I'm going to be playing the heck out of this come release.

It used to be a very good game...
However today it's obviously out of time... FPS standards have changed so if you're an actual FPS addict you won't like it so much...

It's much more retro style relevant, all fans will be glad to re-play with their favourite game :)

Actually this is so another fps. It is not like other shooters. Man, it has almost fullscreen auto-aiming, so it plays totaly difirent than other shooters. So it can be new expirience for those who newer played GoldenEye or Perfect dark on n64

10 years have passed and games have moved on. No fucking way does it stand up to current day standards.

That said, wtf is wrong with indulging yourself in some retro nostalgia? I regularly play retro games and if you can appreciate them for what they are, then it is very good entertainment. Day 1 purchase for sure. Especially if the (counter) coop is xbl enabled as well.

Perfect Dark is a great game, especially the multiplayer mode was responsible for many many long nights with mates back then. It's a classic, from my opinion, and I look very much forward to playing it again.

Looking at it now, the game has aged better than I expected.

And at 60FPS? That's ten times it's original framerate! It will practically be a whole new game ;)

Some things you just have to see and respect for what they were. In terms of first person shooters on consoles, PD was a leap ahead in all areas. Controls, animation, story, visuals, music. It was super stylish and had some utterly memorable levels like the Chigaco mission and the Air Force One.. one. The difficulty settings scaled the game like NO other game had done before, and essentially none have done after either.

It had absolutely TONS to do in it. Single player replayability, co-op replayability, game modes that you hadn't seen before and haven't seen since. Totally content packed to the point where the cart should've exploded.

Sometimes, even though it's easy to forget, there just has to be an acknowledgement of what something got irrefutably right and thus ended up a landmark in history. Unless you wanna sound like this:

Don't listen to him. It's still a LOT better than a number of fps games on the 360, ESPECIALLY PDZ!

Perfect Dark was definitely superior to Goldeneye, it was basically the same game, but improved in almost every way. Plus rumours say that all the Goldeneye content is being integrated into this, as they can't release the game because of the Bond liscence, but all the actual coding, levels and everything is still owned by Rare/Microsoft.

Yeah, I preferred Perfect Dark to Goldeneye - although both were fantastic games in their own right.

Top post.

For all the technology available today, the majority of current games lack something fundamental which games like Perfect Dark had: the 'fun factor'.

I also hope they've taken Joanna's model from the Japanese version of the game, she had a lot more polygons, and didn't just look like a slightly modified Bond.

Either way, can't wait for some 16 player deathmatches in the Facility on Live :)

The best thing about Perfect Dark's gameplay was that each weapon had a secondary function. For me, Perfect Dark was the first game to use that feature really effectively because every secondary function was useful.

I still remember that weapon which had a missile that you directed yourself. Hilarious usually ensued.

Hmmm, Perfect Dark overrated? Zelda OOT "overrated as shit on release"? I've heard some whoppers on this site, but those two quotes are up there with the best of them. Two of the most (arguably) seminal releases for their respective genre on any console in the history of videogames, ever. For anyone to call them overrated, be it today or then is just pure ignorance.

Anyway, on to PD. Sure it's almost 10 years old now, and sure enough it has aged. However, compare it to the likes of PD Zero and I know which one I'd rather be spending full price on. The only thing that will detract from this game today is it's graphics. That's it. Of course the lack of physics will bring it down somewhat also, but the gameplay is as raw and refined as it gets in any FPS console shooter there is to date. Yes, that's today and not then. If any game was worth the points on XBLA, it's this. To say I'm extatic about the release is an understatement. Now, if only Nintendo would stop being greedy bastards and let them port Goldeneye. Perfecto.

I hope not. I know some might see the old way dated, but with the N64 controller in hand, it just felt as natural as could be.
