Guitar Hero 5 : two screenshots

Activision unveils the first screenshots of Guitar Hero V, which will probably be released at the end of the year, just like every year. A press release comes with these pictures, which reveals some details on the new features of the game, as well as some songs from the tracklist.

Friday 15th May/... Guitar Hero® continues to re-define the music and gaming experience this Fall with the release of Guitar Hero 5. Featuring the best variety and biggest rock stars of today combined with classic rock anthems, Guitar Hero 5 is the latest installment of the world’s most popular music game. For the first time ever, players can customize the make-up of their band by rocking with any combination of instruments in-game: whether it be two guitars and two drums, or three guitars and a microphone, any combination is possible, allowing players to experience music their own way. Brand new, innovative, easy-to-use gameplay modes like Party Play and RockFest put fun, competition and control at center stage as fans tailor the Guitar Hero experience to match their personal style and interests. For extended hours of entertainment, downloadable content from Guitar Hero® World Tour will be compatible with the game and will automatically be updated to include all of the upgrades and enhancements of Guitar Hero 5.

Guitar Hero 5 features the strongest, most varied set list to-date comprised of master tracks from 85 of the hottest bands of today and the biggest classic acts including; Kings of Leon, The Rolling Stones, The White Stripes, Santana, Vampire Weekend, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, plus more than 30 artists from a variety of music genres that will be making their music-rhythm video game debut.

Among the first-time-ever features of Guitar Hero 5 are: Party Play, where players can jump in or drop out of gameplay seamlessly; RockFest, a comprehensive competitive experience available featuring five new head-to-head modes playable online or in your living room; and the ability to play the entire set-list from the first time the game is turned on.

Guitar Hero 5 refines the player experience, enhances the art style and redesigns core features such as GHMusic Studio, making it the most accessible, fun-to-play and authentic experience for seasoned music gamers as well as first-time players. New innovations such as Band Moments, where bands are rewarded for hitting special note streams together and song challenges where gamers are tasked to play through a song a specific way, add a new competitive layer of excitement and accomplishment to the music rhythm genre.

New songs include:
The Rolling Stones – Sympathy for the Devil
Bob Dylan – All Along The Watchtower
The White Stripes – Blue Orchid
Santana – No One To Depend On (LIVE)
Vampire Weekend – A-Punk
Tom Petty - Runnin Down a Dream
Johnny Cash – Ring of Fire
Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire

Maybe the microphone won't blow goats, or at least have an adapter for a real mic...

lol that looks silly with 3 drum kits on stage with the crowd going wild, they sure must love their drum beats, but it's still cool we can have same instruments now, the amount of times someone else wants to do guitar and im stuck with bass which bores me stiff, that news itself makes me happy.

SO what exactly will make "band hero" any different? o_0

Too many friggin games, i'm getting confused to the point where i just dont even care to look up their features.
I'll stick with RB2 until a REAL new game appears with actual REAL changes.
You know, a game that the entire dev team worked on for two years or something, not another expansion or another Insert-Mediocre-Band Hero

Yeah the series is becoming too big for its own good. I stopped caring after so many spin-offs and DLC packs

I buy the games for the songs. I don't care if the game is just GHWT. As long as they give me good songs, I'll buy it.

Ditto.

People speak of wanting changes, but I mean, what kind of changes do you guys want that would warrant buying it....but wouldn't change the core gameplay that makes it what it is?

Looks actually respectable visually. Only thing I can't stand about these rythem games; the visuals are horrid.

Band Hero is rated E10 and is aimed at family audiences, like Lego Rock Band.

Maybe they could just release more DLC...

Buying 85 new songs as DLC would cost a lot more than the cost of buying a new GH/RB game.

Sure, you'd be getting songs you know you like, but I rather enjoy playing songs I wouldn't have listened to otherwise.

What's up?
  • blmbox
blmbox Yeah, but judging by the content of both reviews, Eurogamer didn't particularly care much for the game anyway. They probably only gave it an 8 to avoid controversy - the review sounded more like a 6. (2 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX 6 to 8 split on Eurogamer, which isn't quite as large but still pretty significant. (4 Hours ago)
  • SimonM7
SimonM7 Yeah sure, but from what console reviews are saying it's perfectly adequate. I mean I'm sure PC is the way to go, but I sincerely doubt we're seeing a 5 to 9 split score wise or anything. (4 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX not that the Xbox version is "that bad" by most accounts either.. there are plenty of people here playing it who adore it.. but the PC game is recieving higher marks across the board (4 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX @SimonM7: I doubt that's true too, if other reviews I've read are any indication. The game was designed around an interface that's not represented on the Xbox.. (4 Hours ago)
  • SimonM7
SimonM7 I doubt PC and 360 scores would differ much in EDGE, they simply don't fancy it. DA on the 360 is fine as long as you like the underlying game. (4 Hours ago)
  • callmekymbo
callmekymbo is DA on the 360 really that bad? I can't run it on my pc so the eggbox is my only viable alternative (5 Hours ago)
