Electronic Arts sent us these four new images of Saboteur. Quite an intriguing premise for a game.

I am very interested in the game, hopefully some gameplay footage will surface soon.

I hope they dropped the idea of the music just being jazz in the game.

Same for me, except replace 'Mercs 2' with 'LoTR: Conquest'.

You play as a civilian, French insurgence (terrorist?) fighter during the WWII German occupation of France. As a civilian, gone are the big, hulking machismo fighting styles and arsenals of traditional WWII games like Call of Duty, replaced by stealth with focus on undermining German interests in France, mostly via means of sabotage.

The game is an openworld, sand box game like GTA, giving the player the ability to take on missions in a nonlinear order, and starts out almost completely in black & white (and the occasional blood red) to represent the oppression of the Germans. However, as you help to liberate areas of the game, full color begins to return to those areas as the German oppression is lifted - think of it a bit like the recent Prince of Persia, as the Prince and Elika push back the effects of Ariman.

People were thinking the same thing about the likes of BioShock and Fallout 3, when it was revealed those games would be relying heavily on a 1940s/1950s licensed soundtrack. At the end of the day, those classic soundtracks only added the necessary flavor of the era to immerse the player much deeper into the game and the game world.

The sound of 1940s France (and for that matter, most of the Western world), was jazz and the big band sound. If used appropriately, it will only add to make the game all the better. So I hope they keep it.

The 1940s/1950s soundtracks from both BioShock and Fallout 3 wound up being wildly popular, with the only complaints from fans, being that there were not enough tracks from the era in those games by default. The PC versions of course benefit from plenty of mods that can add over 100 new tracks from the era into those games. If done correctly, the 1940s jazz soundtrack should prove to be just as popular the era BioShock and Fallout 3 soundtracks. At the end of the day, do not be surprised if your only complaint about the Saboteur soundtrack, is that Pandemic did not add enough songs from the era on the disc.

FreeSwag, if i remember correctly, they said they were gonna only use jazz.
If I remember correctly, Fallout 3 and Bioshock has mix bag with classic music to some ambience and orchestra..

Don't get me wrong, a bit of jazz in Saboteur wouldnt be bad if you are crossing sides with a club or a resturant, but as a chase, or action scene...etc. jazz is not appropiate for it.
Depending on where you are in the game, if there is a location were music is loud or a radio near by, then by all means, play it up.
But if there is a chase or any action scene, or exploration, use orchestra.

i like the idea of the jazz music, it should make for a very inique sound to go with what is shaping up to be a very inique game. not everygame has to have an orchestral soundtrack, it worked great for voodoo vince, and im sure it'll work great here too.

That is.. extremely ignorant. id is still great. Look at Quake 4. The game was mediocre, at best. Plenty of amazing companies have made HORRID games. That doesn't mean they lost the ability to make good games. It means they took a gamble and it didn't pay off. Pandemic has a good record, good enough that one mediocre game cannot spoil it.

Or perhaps the character simply has a really mutated and weird looking crotch which is instantly noticeable...maybe a subplot of the game is he needs some kind of groin tumour removed and he needs to steal the money from the Nazi's to get the operation.

i like minkini's plot

That's the kind of reasons why a guy would want to steal money from Nazis! I would so totally understand why he is doing it, it actually makes you appreciate the actions the guy is doing in the game

Plus, the plot works so many levels for other characters, masterchief kicking ass in all of the game? cause his groin was mutated, wolverine always angry and pissed off? cause his groin was mutated, solid snake wanting to take out his brother liquid? duh...mutated groin! kratos so pissed off at the gods?! cause his groin was mutated!!!!!

no further explanation would be needed as for a plot

You know I had forgotten all about Voodoo Vince. Those were good times. And the entire New Orleans jazz sound they used for the soundtrack, was spot on the money.

all well and good (though is arguable that this studios produced anything above adverage)... but how was Mercs 2 a gamble? it wasnt a new IP - the clue is in the title.
