PS3

DjMizuhara send us these two videos of Gomibako, released this week and the Japanese PSN. I guess that's one way of doing house cleaning...

WTF....is up with the PS3. They are starting to become Nintendo imo, but I mean come on what is up with this game, that flower game and etc. I mean they barely have any good games. Maybe it is just me but they need to get it together.

Fact: If a company release any games without guns and swearing with huge muscular men, that company seriously needs to "get it together"!!!!!!2"£123

On topic: I dunno if this game is releasing outside Japan but if it does and is around the £5 mark, I'll give it a go.

Japan gets all the best games I swear. Wish you didn't need a Japanese credit card to get the stuff on their PSN.

I bought this on my JP PSN account yesterday and spent a few hours with it. It's good, a fun little variant on Tetris, and it has a nice audio/visual style. The visuals are badly in need of anti-aliasing though, and so look quite scruffy.

Interestingly I noticed when I went to look at the trophies for this game it came up with a non Japanese name and icon. I forget exactly what it was, something like 'waste bin' or some such, but definately not Gomi Bako (which in Japanese literally means 'rubbish bin') Clearly it's in Sony's system with international titles already in place. That said, the in game text in the JP release is partly in Japanese. (not that you need to read anything to understand how to play this)

I'm loving what Sony has been doing on the PSN lately. Xbox Live has been filled with crap for so long now I haven't bought a game since the 'Summer of Arcade' last year. On the PSN however I've bought the amazing Flower, the bizarre but cool Nobi Nobi Boy, and a bunch of other great little titles too (Wipeout, GTI Club, Siren etc).

Next week on the Japanese PSN store there will be a fun looking old school 2D platformer called 'Minna de Spellunker' released.

Cool Idea. It's like Tetris with physics. Hope it gets released outside of Japan. I'd buy it for $5 but I'm guessing it'll be $10.

No need to bring out your inner ignorant fanboy. The Live Marketplace has had just as many if not more good titles released than the PSN. They both have a lot of good variety to choose from. Let's just leave it at that.

I got the game too. It's very nice. Game looks majorly upscaled. Looks lower resolution than Star Ocean 4's battles to me. Style of the graphics are really odd. It's very satisfying to smash up different trash items, but I feel the total number of trash items is a little low, gets a bit repetitive. It's also really hard, I can only play through on sweets mode. I'm not sure if there's some concept I'm missing but getting 'eco' and not losing a round is extremely hard later on.

The English version of the trophies are called 'trash box', so it makes me think it'll be released in the US.

Oh how little you know. I've bought over 50 XBLA games, and have around 10 PSN games. So am I a fanboy? I'm thinking... not.

Please tell me what has been original and interesting on XBLA recently. I can't think of anything. Summer of Arcade was amazing, but that was a long time ago now.

So you've bought over 50 XBLA games and you're still complaining about the service when there's a drought on games that YOU like the last few months?! (did you try Peggle?) Holy shit you've got some high expectations for game releases! So I'm assuming you also talked down on the PSN all the other times during the first couple years when there wasn't much good being released.

Compared to 0 PSN Games, and the ammount of retro shit on XBLA in the first year of each service, people should just STFU.
Only complain is that the good stuff is almost every time overpriced compared to the stuff on Steam that has price-drops every week.

Maybe you should take your own advice.

That "retro shit" is one of the primary reasons why XBLA even exists and is so popular. That, and for original content and great new games like Braid.

Peggle is pretty shallow and I really don't see the atraction. I would have bought R-Type perhaps, but the price was over the top. Other than that, XBLA has been a wasteland for 6 months solid.

As for the PSN, yes, it's been total garbage until recently, but it's definately on an upward trend now. I really like the quirky stuff they've been putting up, stuff like The Last Guy and Nobi Nobi Boy. They sure beat Mine Sweeper.

Happy now?

It has a 2 player versus mode (same screen only), played some with a friend today. Both players have more shallow trash boxes. First person to drop ANY trash outside their box loses. If you smash enough trash (I think that's what it counts), it slowly raises your box, eventually after a certain number of raises your trash can is dumped into your opponents'. It doesn't matter if you both had raised 4 out of 4 'clicks' whoever hits the 'dump' part first gets to dump and both boxes are reset. It's possible to recover from being dumped on, but it's hard, did it against my friend. Another tactic is you can fling your trash into the opponents' box as well. There are no extra features so the experience is fun but pretty short lived.
