Xbox 360 PS3

Capcom is upping the pressure the notch in the Resident Evil 5 hype machine with this brand new trailer finally unveiling the story behind the game. And as usual with the trailers from Capcom, it's ultra classy.

I'm I the only one who thinks this game has pushed the visuals much farther than any console game ever. I challenge any one to name a game that looks this good. And please don't say Crysis or Killzone2 or Gears of War2. Capcom have raised the bar, and I can truly say that I am in no rush for a new console. There is so much potential in the consoles available. This is why I own an HD console. We need not worry about graphics anymore. Long live HD consoles. For those of you who never got the chance to play Resident Evil4, you're in for a treat.

Wow, I thought they couldn't make it any more obvious who the hooded character was. I was wrong.

Great trailer anyway.

I think the game is absolutely fantastic looking and is easily one of the best I've seen, but I wouldn't think someone is wrong for thinking Crysis, KZ2, or GoW2 are better looking.

I agree, it looks better than gears and KZ2 to me.

RE5 has great graphics, no doubt. But i really can't see where it has "pushed the visuals much farther than any console game ever." It looks fantastic on screenshots, but Ingame it is much too static to be the best looking game.

I'd have to agree. I've played the demo and it looks amazing, however, the lack of any good interaction/physics/damage modeling with the backgrounds and lack of proper physics/animation for characters when they're shot or die is jarring when compared to other modern games. It definitely hurts the overall appeal of the graphics to me. Maybe the best looking character models I've ever seen though for Chris and Sheva.

Totally agree, I don't think it's anymore visually stunning than Gears2 or KZ2 really.

Was thinking the same, probably Claire, Kind of hope not though was hoping 6 would be based on Claire.

Too bad american developers isnt near doing so naturally looking characters as Japanese ones, since most games comes from west these days... :/

Resident Evil 5 look awesome. I doubt it will be as good as RE4, but still cant wait to get my hands on it. :)
Going by that trailer it looks a crap load better than RE4, story wise at least.

Resident Evil 5 does indeed have good graphics, but it's far, far from for example Gears of War 2. Only a fragment of things actually do look good in RE5 like for example the character models and some key objects, however it lacks details. Everything that you are not supposed to look directly into is rather low res and the environment is overall rather bland.

RE5's main issue (as with all of Capcom's games this generation) is that the lighting is completely static. There are no dynamic light sources or shadows, everything is prerendered beforehand. That makes for awesome looking cutscenes for sure, but once ingame it's a very different story. You can be certain that the great explosion over the water is a very special case in the engine.

Original RE also looked great back in the days because of fixed camera and i think this is sort of the same ... While shooting you stand still . If they had the same run and gun (wich isn't RE at all) as other visual titles they would look more the same.
Making any sense !!! ;)

Closing comment: this kicks but !

I wish the game handling was improved with the next-gen too. I saw the demo at a relatives xbox 360. the game is extremely stucky to control and I am very bored by the undead killing animations. a lot of hings are very old but the graphics. There was a game called Lair on ps3 that was made like this.

Funny.. you set out a challenge for us to name a game that has better quality visuals aslong as we dont mention the 3 games that do!

Best graphics ever, period. Crysis, Killzone 2, Gears 2, none of them have anything on this. I think it comes down to attention to detail and artistry. Capcom just seems to have paid that much more attention to every little thing. Western developers seem to like making very good general assets and effects, but Capcom has probably focused on every single frame of cutscenes, every single object in environments, and just made sure everything was as damn near perfect as they could.

Blimblim you're completely wrong about the lighting. The game uses some static lighting, but there's tons of dynamic lighting and shadows. If you don't understand the tech behind shadow mapping, go ahead and look it up. In the demo you can tell there are many objects, the most obvious right off the bat are those flags on strings. When the big axe guy knocks down the stacks, the shadows cast by the pieces of the buildings' shadows change. The game does use lightmaps (as 99% of games still do), but not for everything.

Also, static lighting and dynamic lighting are terms you should look up. There is a dynamic lighting effect every time you fire the gun, not only as a muzzle flash, but wherever you hit (which isn't accurate to real life, but it's cool looking).

Why don't you say why you think other games look better? Lots of other games have excellent technical achievements, but I've never seen any game that comes close to achieving so much in every single area as RE5 has. At least you agree that RE5's real time cutscenes are miles above anything you've seen in any other game (including other games' cutscenes)?

I'm pretty sure Blim knows what static and dynamic lighting is... And while I agree in that I find the game more visually impressive than KZ and Gears, that isn't to say this opinion is fact or that other people can't think other games look better.

Bad, bad , bad game. Far too stuck in last gen. Watch and learn from God of War III Capcom, that's how you make a generational leap.
