Xbox 360 PS3

Take-Two Int. today announced Red Dead Redemption for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, to be released this fall. Rockstar San Diego will develop and the game will use the RAGE engine, also featured in GTAIV. First images can be found inside.

2K Games press release:
Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is proud to announce that Red Dead Redemption is scheduled for a fall 2009 release on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. Developed by Rockstar San Diego, as a follow up to the 2004 hit game, Red Dead Revolver, Red Dead Redemption is a Western epic, set at the turn of the 20th century when the lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age. The story of former outlaw, John Marston, Red Dead Redemption takes players on a great adventure across the American frontier.

“The team at San Diego have massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing. We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be.”

Utilizing Rockstar's proprietary Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), Red Dead Redemption features an open-world environment for players to explore, including frontier towns, rolling prairies teeming with wildlife, and perilous mountain passes - each packed with an endless flow of varied distractions. Along the way, players will experience the heat of gunfights and battles, meet a host of unique characters, struggle against the harshness of one of the world’s last remaining wildernesses, and ultimately pick their own precarious path through an epic story about the death of the Wild West and the gunslingers that inhabited it.

Surprised, but delighted at the news. I played Revolver back in the day, and yes, it did have its flaws, but it was different. And it's being made by San Diego, who developed MCLA. Looking forward to horse + shooting.

these are splendid news! Really looking forward to this one, plus the engine seems to fit better to this game than to GTAIV :)

It baffles me why there aren't enough western games. This is firmly on my radar.

The old west has plenty of potential which is pretty much untapped in videogames thus far, looks interesting...

oh my god the ground is soooo bumped >.< I really hate when devs do that lol. It doesn't actually look like anything but crapiness... Especially when yo have low AA. Other then that looks ok. Hopefully the game is good. I've always been interested in seeing a good western game.

im not really sure if an open world will suit this sort of game....i mean, that first screenshot doesnt exactly make me think "wow, i cant wait to explore this area"

environment wise it looks incredibly boring. so heres hoping the towns and cities are a little closer together then that first screenshot implies.

other then that tho, i really liked the first one so im looking forward to this. cant see it being more then a rental tho.

looks meh , but looks can be deceiving. played first one , was interesting.
but if this game will be something like GTA IV in graphics difference between PS3 and 360 versions , then honestly screw this game.

Well Red Dead Revolver was a fun game so i'll ahve to keep my eye on this...if it turns out to be just GTAIV with a western look i won't give a crap but if it's anything like it's predecessor i'll have to get it :)

Eh... What I'd really like to see is a Japanese take on the wild west! ...In a non-eroge form anyway ;)

If you know what I'm talking about, you are a cool guy.

I'm afraid you are wrong. The first Red Dead Revolver was also by Rockstar. You seem to have mistaken it with Darkwatch (by High Noon Studios for Capcom).

Redemption really looks good. A sure buy for me, I love open world games ...

The original Red Dead Revolver started as a capcom project (developed by San Diego based Angel Studios). The project was put on hold due to various reasons. Rockstar later acquired Angel Studios (which is now Rockstar San Diego), and they thought it would be a good idea to resurrect the game.

The second to last screen I think sums up what this game will be all about - atmosphere. R* know how to tell a good tale, so this could be one to watch!
