Square-Enix released a whole bunch of images and artworks of The Last Remnant. Quite enough to get us to the Tokyo Games Show where we'll certainly do a lot of videos of that game.
Looks good, if not a little rough round the edges, could really use some AA. I hope we get some good gameplay videos, not a standard clip show trailer where you cant tell how the game plays or see how the game looks in motion.
There's potential here, everything looks relatively solid.
Looks poor to decent in screens, but looks quite good in motion...not sure how this one will turn out...can't predict how good SE rpgs will be outside of FF and DQ nowadays
Looks more "mature" than IU... and for me thats a very good thing. Cant see much children running around doing stupid things. The story seems a serious one and the Art is in line with Squaresoft last titles.

Every game doesn't have to be a button masher...
it would be nice if these types of games felt like you was actually doing something tho, not just selecting options from menu's all the time. i take buttom masher over turn based any day. although a combat system as deep as something like ninja gaiden or god of war in an RPG would be awesome.
I´m sure It would be better than Infinite Undiscovery (for me, not in general) I like the art direction (close to FFXII imo), the design, a little more mature than Infinite Undiscovery, etc. And I hope a longer game here, IU was pretty short for an j-rpg.
Waiting for this game!!
Pretty underwhelming I must say. Its like how EA is bringing about Dead Space... just using the ancient, used-up, done-before cliche's, bring it to HD and call it a new next-gen product. Totally fed-up with half cooked and old school games as I think above is also the case.
It looks too much like Infinite Undiscovery. Square should keep these test-purpose games to 360 only and should really focus upon delivering FF-XIII goods o the public...

I think the idea of an RPG is lost on you.., how well you do in RPG combat should NOT be determined by YOUR skill set (how good you are as a gamer allowing you to quickly pull off combos and such), but should be determined by the skill set of your CHARACTER. That's why they call it role-playing.
Action games are great, but this is a different genre.

Yes, you are right there, it does have this huge Star Wars style planetary market-place for various creatures feel to it just like in FF-XII. But FF-XII was a huge, well thought-out, mature and solid RPG. I pumped in over 60 hours to just end it straight away, not even completing around half a quests. There was much more going about in a single area in that game but this above game seems bland and feels like its being hurridly completed or something.
If thats this year we are talking about, then the only genuine big thing to look out for is White Knight Chronicles I must say. I'm sure its gonna make a big difference in the jRPG genre we have seen yet in this gen.
Ah nice some pictures.
It is indeed rough around edge but I can live with that. What really sucks is the texture filter. The times where you can see the MIP levels of textures are supposed to be over.
Yet you can clearly see that the textures get instantly blurry about 20 meters away from the camera… that’s poor.
It still looks good. I especially like the sky, the eyes and the overall design, it’s awesome.
I prefer turn based battle systems or something similar e.g. ATB where basically a turn is equal to an amount of time. Done right, like in FFX or BG (Baldur’s Gate, yes it is turn based, one turn is 6 seconds long), they are very deep and tactical.
Most action RPGs are shallow and if you want action like in Ninja Gaiden why not actually play Ninja Gaiden?
RPGs are IMO supposed to be about choices not reflexes. You decide what your character has to do and if he succeeds in doing so or not is based on the abilities of the character.
By the way Infinite Undiscovery was well received in the press and by players in Germany, I liked it too.
If you want to taste a horrible Square game then play Unlimited SaGa.
After playing Infinite Undiscovery, which was dissapointing. I hope this one will be better. I like the Character design a lot more than in IU and the story looks darker, so I will give it a try;)

After playing Infinite Undiscovery I've completely lost hope in Square. They better release a demo for this if they want to get my attention.
Yeah, IU isn't that killer app that Tri-Ace was supposed to create. But this has nothing to do with Square Enix. Tri-Ace is an indipenden Developer and Square just published this game so the japanese people think its a Square-Enix game.
But The last remantn (what an idiotic name) is the first true next-gen Square Game and it looks the same like FF12. (Art direction)
Not Even..if were talking Purely Square (Soft) its really FFXIII...but in a more general sense, yes Last Remnant is Square's first next gen title..IU was done by Tri-Ace, people allways seem to forget that.
Thx for the images. Most are old but there a couple new ones in there.
umm..whats "Idiotic" about "The Last Remnant"? its completely practical..unlike "Infinite Undiscovery"
Wow, I guess the developers at Square are finally confident enough to release large hi-res images instead of the low-res smaller images that usually get released for most games from Japan. It's about time. Before, I could never get a good representation of how the game would actually look. It looks pretty descent, and it's a step above Infinite Undiscovery which clearly looks like a PS2 game in higher resolution minus the aliasing that plagued most of their games.

Every game doesn't have to be a button masher...
And every game that offers real time combat doesnt have to be a button masher either... unless ofcourse you foolishly consider Mass effect a button masher, or Zelda, or fable...any one of the rpgs that actually allow you into the action that acompanies a story...rather than just watching it through countless of the same acompanied cut scenes whenever you routinely select an action.

The battle system seems to have some kind of quick time system as Legend of Dragoon or Shadow Hearts. There are screens in which a button and a rating is displayed see here:

I kind of like it when such a little action part is added to an otherwise very tactical battle system.
