Xbox 360 PS3

EASports has released the Fifa 09 demo on the Xbox Live Marketplace and PC, while PSN is set to get it later today. The demo lets you play with six teams on three difficulties. Here's a video showing the menu mode, match mode and some penalty shoot-out in the end, played in medium difficulty. I'm impressed and like what I've seen so far, the game seems to do everything better than Euro 08 did.

Awesome! Thanks, I shall download this thing. If it does everything that Euro08 did but better, wow, we are in for a treat this year.

From what I've played so far, it actually takes a step backwards.

Are you kidding? It feels so much more responsive than even Euro 2008 did.

I agree... If it would have played liked Euro I would have bought it no worries. However the slow pace has returned and it feels more like Fifa 08 than Euro 08. Just waiting for the Pes demo now and see which one gets my money

Not from what I've played. The pace has been toned down compared to Euro 2008 and the controls now feel very sluggish. It doesn't feel quite as bad as when I first played it, but it still isn't what I was expecting. Heading and tackling has vastly improved though.

I await the PES demo now.

Cant believe im gonna say this but..... Its awesome i cannot believe EA have made such a good game.

Im think im converted :) Although the PES09 video for the Champions League also looks pretty good so perhaps 2 football games are in order :)

Quick question, does this game still have the champions league in it?

Awesome demo, everything is so manual yet tight and the ball moves around so freely (albeit a little 'floaty' but it can be forgiven).

PES09's newest trailer got me excited, this plays beautifully, FootballManager09 got a 3d match engine....

What a year to be a football and gaming fan! :D

For those of you waiting for the release on the European PSN...the whole store update has been delayed until tomorrow according to PS3Fanboy.

Does someone know when the US update will go live because it will also include the demo..

Have you seen the advanced juggling tutorial on Youtube? I know it's a silly little thing and will be nearly useless in the game itself but man it's fun to play around with in the arena...

pc version just has these improved graphics. gameplay it's just like 08 on pc I guess. mouse+keyboard do give a nicer feeling as you have more controll. but it lacks the depth to make it a powerfull feature.

Man, after playing the demo I am so disappointed. Why does EA have to be so stupid!

I haven't deleted the Euro demo and playing it after playing some FIFA09 feels so much better it isn't even funny. The only thing that 09 does better than Euro is the shooting, which is considerably better. But really, if the rest of the game feels so clunky, there is just no point. These guys messed up, I don't know what was so hard about leaving what works in place rather than change it so much.

Players feel sluggish, you can barely tell when they are running, AI is a little too smart at times (cheap), they don't react to your commands, or they do so in very different ways than you intended to. Again, it's a shame since they seemed to have gotten a much better shooting this time around.

Give it a chance, mate. I understand exactly what you're saying, but the more you play (of what little is afforded) the more you realize that all the subtle changes really do add up. If you dislike the pace, then it can be changed in the final version. I'm loving the fact that each player feels so unique when controlling them. Ronaldinho seems not to turn so sharply as smaller players do, but he has so much skill. Kaka can hold the ball up even when two or three players are around him. Something that was impossible in the previous games. I'm thinking at the first playtest through will be a little odd, but like most brilliant games, once you start to learn and adjust to the differences, it becomes deeper and addicting. The shooting mechanics in this are awesome.

I have played it for about 2 hours straight and I am still disappointed, given my expectations. The player movement, especially when turning, is incredibly slugglish and has taken a step backwards. It was fine in EURO 2008, so why make it worse? LEBATO sums it up perfectly:

The best way to explain would be to say that it feels like controlling a fat dude after hours of exercise.
Even the manual passing isn't as good - the power bar isn't as responsive and it isn't even that clear on the HUD at the bottom.

On a positive note the shooting is an improvement, as is the heading and tackling. The player faces are very accurate and detailed, as are the overall graphics and presentation. The new jostling on and off the ball feature does add to the gameplay as well.

Still, I am very disappointed.

Have you been holding left trigger when dribbling? Players turn much quicker. Also, I just can't understand why people are so disappointed with the demo for. The demo is just a sample. It is in no way representative of the final product. Looking at the graphics and certain gameplay aspects compared to videos seen, the demo is different. There are no crowd effects like scarves and banners, and you can't access that little burst of speed that was talked about with the left stick. You can't jostle either with the left stick. The final version should be more refined and make people happier. I'm only surmising though, but I seriously do not think that this demo is anywhere close to be final. Keep this in mind.

Strange, I find this much better than Fifa 08. Played both last night, the demo feels much more responsive, the graphics are better, the players look better.

I've played a hell of a lot of Fifa 08 and the unresponsivness annoyed me, however 09 as I said is so much better. The pace of the game is perfect and players can actually do what I want them to do.

Really looking forward to the full game, demo is superb.

I'm going to wait for reviews of both this and PES; I think I need to. FIFA has only had one review so far (it got a 9/10), whilst PES obviously hasn't had any. Whichever has the highest reviews will obviously affect which one I buy, as well as which demo I prefer.
