Id Software releases the first two official images of Rage, probably taken from the PC version. Note that the game will be the first one to use John Carmack's new engine, the Id Tech 5.
Loakum Ugh….scratch that previous comment. The upcoming Game of Thrones video game is a F’in mobile phone game. Why can’t they came an open world GoT game, like Witcher 3 or God of War? (3 Hours ago)
Loakum By FAR, the upcoming Game of Thrones King’s Road was the Game of the Show! It plays like God of War Ragnarok! :) (1 Week ago)
Loakum @Driftwood Awesome! I’m loving it! It does show a much crisper picture and the frame rate looks good! I was playing Stella Blade and Dragonball Soarkling Blast! :) (6 Weeks ago)

... funny with a little hint of bullshot.
this looks amazing [on pc], hopefully it'll be about more than the graphics though [unlike doom 3 when it released] and will still be fun on my gimped pc [read: xbox360]
I guess not, so no bullshots...
I'm sure they'll use some trickery to get round this partially.
But anyways, the game looks damn good if these screens haven't been touched up. I'm sure it'll look damn good on both consoles as well, even if the pc version looks best.
Whatever this may be, PS3, PC or 360. I own all so bya.
I asked about the ram in another thread and raised a few points and got no response. The GPU can access all the ram and this piece backs up what I found out when looking at the specs and not some fanboy bullpoop.
This game is looking amazing, and gives me the same feeling as I got after seeing Doom 3 running that first time, can't wait to see and hear more from this, and Doom 4 should show itself in the next 12 months.

As for RSX accessing the main RAM, yes it can do it, but not the same way as the dedicated GRAM and it's a big pain in the ass for the developers. But still it's doable.
The article is wrong when it comes to Cell using the GDDR3 though, Cell simply can't access it in an efficient manner. The only to do it with an acceptable bandwidth is through RSX, making it utterly pointless.
And now, let's stop talking about this bullshit.
Every game that has been brought to all 3 plattforms has always looked better on PC. The amount of AA and AF and the higher resolution.
The latest card from nVidia would kill the RSX and C1 any day.
Even if the RSX in theory could use 512mb it would mean that Sony had to kill the XM`B in-game and the devs kill all the acess of RAM for the CELL, not very likly.
Its not "John Carmacks" engine. He didn't make it alone. Give credit where credit is due.
That said, looks amazing. And obviously its the PC version. No way the game looks that good on consoles.
" The article is wrong when it comes to Cell using the GDDR3 though,Cell simply can't access it ia an efficient manner."
I can't see anywhere in the article were it says cell reads GDDR3 efficiently.
regarding the cell's alleged memory constraints it's known that cell is tied to 16mbs direct access to the GDDR3 (which is what you saying in the quote without declaring numbers), but is countered by rsx's full access to the r and because of this the 16mbs is all cell needs when dipping into the GDDR3 to keep it going.
limited cpu access is nothing new and shows the priority towards the gpu's bandwith requirements which is a good thing.and the design implication in this is (as you pointed out) for cell to fully access GDDR3 (somthing it doesn't need to do explained above) it can do it by going through RSX or (as you didn't say) the R reads from GDDR3 were cell can read it at full speed,
Also when it it goes to R from GDDR3, the latancy before cells access is around 400 cycles, which compares favourably to the xenon's 600 cycles to access it's unified RAM.
I'm not trying to be a fanboy i've to much respect for the industry for that but I'm just basing it on the specs.
this looks great tho, cant the engine create rediculous textures no matter the ram? meh, i'll probably buy it on the 360 even though carmack said its gonna look worse cos of compression or something. blu-ray comes in handy after all i guess.
