The spell efect thing lokos a bit weird. Game is looking good, but is there a lock on? still can't tel and I REALLY don't want a hack and slacsh where you just swing around in the general area of the enemies v.v

so is it possible to be a pure mage in this one, or archer? (are bow and arrows even in this game) because from what i've seen, it looks like everyone seems to be a skilled as everyone else when it comes to magic...i hope you can still specialise in one area like the last game.

I'd imagine you still can. My guess it that they're just showing off everything in one go; instead of individually. Appeal to the masses. When's the official release date? Sometime in October, right?

Hopefully we can turn it off, cause its kind of annoying being shown where to go.

And yea Im guessing you can be pure magic as long as you only use magic to fight with.

I was disappointed to learn that the game is only about 12 hours unless you muck about with wives and all that. I don't wanna actively avoid playing the main game of fear that it might end, I dunno why they insist on making it that way. :/

12 Hours without Sidequests...

Remember:

GTA IV:
Pure Storyline: 20 + - Hours
With Sidequests: 40-50 + - Hours

Oblivion:
without Sidequests: around 100 Hours
With Sidequests: 500 + - Hours...

Fable 2 with Sidequests: Around 50 Hours (whish)

But why not just make it longer anyway?

I mean 12 hours is out of PR people's mouths, which means it's a veeery kind estimate at best. The design philosophy that games should be short baffles me, it's like their reasoning is that "if they wanna just get it over with, they can blow through it quickly enough". Who WOULDN'T wanna spend more than 12 hours in the Fable world even if they're not imaginative enough to mess around with random stuff?

as far as oblvion goes i figure without the side quests i could run through the game in around ten hours no where near 100 at all. just remeber though that even though it sounds like they're tryin to squeeze every penny outta us they could release new content packages revealing new side quests and game environments. but 12 hours is still kinda low but then again this is a western style rpg. sidequests for western rpgs are usually the bread and butter of its gameplay and in this game the small sthings like almost no noticeable framerate issues, the combat system, and i believe every mechanic that molyneaux wanted in the first game is gonna be in this one is awesome.

Well thats all well and good Simon but the longer the story the longer the development, and Lionhead aren't the fastest of developers out there.

I am a fan of downloadble content as long as its worth it, so hopefully they will go that route.

Yeah, that's a gross overestimate.

Thats somewhat INSANLY overestimate of Oblivion LOL, First time I played true it, I beated it after 16 hours of game time. 100 Hours??? LOL...... And I'm sure if you know what to do you finnish the game under 2-3 hours.

And by the way I didn't JUST focus on the main plot but that what I mostly did, I couldn't give shit about sidequests as in most cases they don't give much story or plot or feel to the world.

I prefer a game with a much much longer storyline and as little as possible sidequests, and if there is sidequests they gotta have a real purpose by adding plot to example learning more how the world works and history about places and things like that, not just go kill x and take y that most quests is games are like.

lol, yeah...hahaha

i did pretty much everything there was to do in oblivion, i got all achievements plus i did a ton more stuff that didnt really mean much, and it totalled 100 hours. i think if i ran purely through the storyline. where talking maybe 15 max. i mean, the main bulk of oblivion seemed like the guilds, and from what i remember, they where all completely optional.

12 hours does seem kinda dissapointing, but not when you consider i completely fable 1 in the same amount of time and that was EVERYTHING done, 100%. if its 12 hours, and theres a good 8-12 hours worth of side quests on top of that (not including stuff like marriage, pub games etc) then i'll be happy.

i mean, look at mass effect. that was like a 6-8 hour story, the only way to bulk that game up was to land on random planets and explore your ass off. and even then it only totalled about 20 hours...a lot less then practically all JRPG's and definately less then oblivion.

Consider the curent recorded best speedrun ( without hacks ) is 1 hour and 11 min and 41 seconds.

http://speeddemosarchive.com/forum/index.php/topic...

There is also a speedrun who completed ALL quests in Oblivion and that just a bit under 15 hours.

and? you can speedrun morrowind in seconds, it not like its a reliable guide for someone coming into the game the first time....LMAO

speed runs dont count. if they did i dont think theres a single game out there that lasts more then 2 hours.

I usually hate the idea of being a mage in any game, but these time manipulation spells are the shit. I can't wait to play this game. I'm really impressed with the combat (this makes it harder for me to understand why anyone would rather play JRPGs)

The shortness of it is a bit of a concern, but i'm sure i'll make multiple play-throughs, each time focusing on a different skill and choosing a different alignment.

So if its 12 hours without side quests then it'll be probably be about 24 hrs with everything included? That still sucks. I think they would have been better off not releasing this info, or bloating it a bit to include side quests. I guess their angle is playing it as good or evil, so technically from their perspective you can double the game time if you do both. Regardless I am disappointed. Games are too short lately. I'd rather have slightly worse graphics and more gameplay. I expect 12 hours from something like Halo or Ghost Recon etc., not an RPG. I logged at 60 hours on Lost Odyssey, Enchanted Arms, Blue Dragon, and far more than that on Oblivion.

Regardless the game looks really cool, especially the combat and story, but if it's only going to be 12-24 or so hours they are going to disappoint a lot of people.

100 hours without sidequiests is a huge exaggeration.
