I agree with the Avatar copying but other than that, I think the new Dashboard is absolutely brilliant, it's adding SO MUCH more functionality

Yeah, dont like it at all... its like WiiTunes, i hate it when people just steal ideas and add nothing. Surprisingly Microsoft had got away from doing that recently. Like Sony's conference when they showed a iTunes-rip as their store and a controller we'd had for the last 6 years. Big let down the MS conference. Nothing new.
No feature on the new dashboard is something I care about, for example the Avatar.
I just want quick and easy navigation without going through boring and unescessary stuff like community or avatar.
I will stick with the good old dashboard. Quick to find stuff too.
I read on kotaku that it isnt optional...maybe they are wrong...anyway I am getting very bored of the "everything for everyone" approach, I want each console to offer something different -
A - MS should be able to stop song having "achievements"
B - Nintendo should be able to stop MS having "Mii's"
its just plain thievery. Maybe thats why they backed away from the motion controller?

It looks very professional, but at the same time it's a Nintendo Wii ripoff and very childish as well. Damn. I don't want to see no Mii-ish avatar before i boot up a bloodie Gears of Wars game.
What a disappointment! I don't mind if it's an option, but they better not force this on to their users.
The new dashboard looks a lot cleaner and more functional. It seems to have all the same options but without the clutter and the ads. Definitely a good thing.
As for the Avatar's, personally I quite like them. I loved making Mii's, but they just aren't really used at all, to a point were they're pretty much pointless. Home on the other hand sounds like it's going to distract from actual games, rather than be an aid.
MS system sounds like they've got it perfect, it adds a level of personalisation, besides just having a generic game picture, and the features you use with them are actually to make playing games easier with friends online easier, and even being able to watch movies, and take part in those little gameshows was pretty neat.
And while the system is obviously "inspired" by Mii's, we've had 3D avatars like these by Microsoft on Windows Live Messenger/MSN, since way before even Nintendo did the Mii's. It's a little unfair to just label it a blatent rip off, and it's certainly no where near the level of Sony taking the achievement system.
I like the new dashboard, and if it's as fast as it is in that video minus net requests, then It may be the best update yet. I don't care much for avatars, make it much easier for XBL retards to act like racists more efficiently, now they don't have to guess and can just single out people.

Yes its optional, u ll be able to switch back to the other dashboard. Lots of details on majornelson. Chat room up to 8 peoples and the option to fully install games on ur hdd is awesome.

That means you lose the blades as the main dashboard but its now the guide button..

I can understand the Mii thing, but how does the dashboard look anything like the Wii's interface? This is just cleaner, it looks more like Vista, or even media center. I'm not seeing the connection to the Wii there, and even if it were a copy of it, I don't see how having a cleaner, easier to navigate interface makes the 360 worse or "like the Wii".
