You think they have different environment this time? Never got true the first game due how really terrible level designs it had, Not to mention the total 5 enemies true the game wasn't enough either.

I wonder if they learned from there past terrible mistakes.

FEAR was awesome, and repetitive environments != bad level design. It always blows my mind how caught up on this issue people are. I never once heard anyone complain about the fact that Prey literally took place in one environment and has less enemy diversity than FEAR did. It's one of the best action oriented FPS in recent times.

But yes, there are more environments in Project Origin.

It's not always about the graphics, sometimes it's atmosphere that counts. Besides, I can't really complain about technical aspects either, it looks really good, just not great. In this type of game I guess it suffices.

I'm surprised how mediocre those screens are. I expected more detail and better lighting.
They're just using the same engine as in FEAR, and we're looking at the edge of it's capabilities... Can't believe i once spent $800 for upgrading my PC just to see this crap

Hmmm, the 1Up preview actually got my hopes up on this one. Might be worth looking into afterall. The first one was boring as hell imo, but this time it seems they might have learned from their mistakes.

I still say they need to update or replace their engine, it's barely hanging in there. Indoor environments look acceptable, outdoor environments are really starting to look outdated.

should i be impressed by this? i mean, loved fear but this screens look really boring! it's like they don´t really care.
And grift, the concern about the repetitive environments is more than legit. cmon, who want's to go through the same office corridors (like the ones on these shots) once again?!

That second shot is an office? Really? How many offices have you seen that are tiled from floor to ceiling and have public access pay phones and ATM's? Project Origin is going to be better than FEAR, and FEAR is still one of the best action FPS out there, I'm pretty sure that's all most people should need to know. This game will go largely ignored by console audiences, and ya know what? Their loss.

Watch the 1Up preview instead of these screens to give you a much better impression of this game. It's a lot more comforting than these screens for sure.

This game has never really been a showcase in the texture and art department. Its all about the effects, no game does slow-mo or particle effects better. When your in a huge firefight and bullets are flying everywhere you really get to see where the hardware is being put to use. The A.I. in this game is insane too. So many shooters on the market that look good, but the A.I. is the same old shit we've been shooting at for years, FEAR actually makes killing bots fun again.

This game is gonna be alright. But to be honest, I don't think it will hold a candle to the likes of Far Cry 2. Or Resistance 2 for that matter.

This is probably something I will pick up once it hits the bargain bin, or I've beaten everything and am in a low as to what I have to play.

Fat chance (that two games from FPS nobodies will actually push the genre forward). Not that I'm not looking forward to playing both of them. But if RFOM, or like, all of Ubisoft's efforts in the genre are any indication of the future of those two respective franchises, than.. fat chance.

Those two franchises will both play better with a gamepad though, so if that's your preference, than you're probably right. I don't think that Project Origin will be adapted to suite joystick bound players quite as well as RFOM2, or even Far Cry 2.

Say it with me dude: that's not an office. Never mind the fact that we've seen several locations featured in screenshots already on this very site. Including this very non-office environment you're bitching about.

(PS. I think the first is this hospital where the game starts)

Pretty much. If the action from the first game is any indication, than this will probably be the action FPS of the year. The emphasis being on the word action. The last developer interview posted over at VE3D made everything sound very promising too. I personally can't wait.

This is however a console forum, and FEAR was never nearly as well recieved to console audiences as it was on the PC, and I suspect we'll see a repeat performance in that regard this time around as well. It's not pushing the boundaries of technology, but it will push the boundaries of action packed, visceral action.

That's enough for me.

At least Far Cry 2 is TRYING to push the FPS genre forward, whereas we pretty much know exactly what to expect from Project Origin: another extension of the original FEAR gameplay, which is admittedly well-done for what it is and very visceral action-wise. But it's nothing more than that. It's just more of the same repetitive, linearly-structured, close-quarters, shooting gallery gameplay we saw in FEAR 1 and the 2 subsequent expansion packs. That to me got old quick, and I suspect that Project Origin will get old for me quick, and that's because I know EXACTLY what the gameplay is going to offer, no matter how well-executed it will be.

Nothing to do with the gamepad. I'm as adept and confident in my aim with the analog stick as most anyone is with the mouse, so it's a non-issue for me. Note that Far Cry 2 was developed for the PC in mind, as a PC-exclusive, for over 3 years--the decision to port to consoles was only made late last year. Its difficulty or gameplay wasn't tuned down for consoles.
