PS3

2K Games also wants to stand in the spotlight a little so they took the opportunity to announce Bioshock for Playstation 3. The game will be released in October this year, and this version will have new features and content which will be revealed later on.

2K Games press release:
2K Games Injects PLAYSTATION®3 System Owners with Genetically Enhanced Version of BioShock®

New York, NY – May 28, 2008 – 2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today that BioShock®, the “genetically enhanced“ story-driven action game, is in development for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system at 2K Marin. The PLAYSTATION 3 system title will be released in October 2008 with new features and content that heighten the award-winning experience.

BioShock for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Games for Windows® was released in 2007 and received numerous Game of the Year honors from prestigious organizations including Associated Press, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), Game Informer, Spike TV’s VGAs and Paste Magazine. BioShock’s extension to the PLAYSTATION 3 system will bring exciting new content to this amazing title and reach many new players, while giving the title the opportunity to once again be named Game of the Year.

“Since BioShock for Xbox 360 and Games for Windows won countless 2007 Game of the Year awards, we are excited to see the impact of this stellar title for the PLAYSTATION 3 system when it debuts this fall,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “Over the coming months we look forward to revealing the new features and content that will make this a must-have game for its new audience, as well as for those who enjoyed it on the other platforms.”

BioShock is a narrative-driven action experience that allows players to do the impossible as they journey through an amazing, immersive and terrifying world. Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically mutated citizens, the player will come to grips with the mysterious and fascinating world of Rapture, a distinct Art Deco underwater utopia gone mad. BioShock not only challenges the players’ capacity to adapt and survive, but brings to question their values and commitment to the inhabitants of Rapture. With smart and adaptive AI, no encounter ever plays out the same, while numerous customization options provide gamers with an experience that adapts to their playing style.

I dunno, some of the textures in those shots don't look as good as the 360 version.

Probably the worst shots to use. 2K bragged about Bioshock's water yet they decide not to release shots that showcase the water? Fools.

Not only do they port it, but also add new features and content? I suddenly feel like I wasted my money on the 360 version. Got the same feeling when I heard about the Eternal Sonata port. Hopefully the new content isn't enough to warrant another purchase from me =P

I did not think I would see this brilliant game on the PS3
could be a massive seller if the graphics are better

there were slight jaggies in the 360 version as well, but the second screen looks like its missing some textures (or they're just too weak to pop out). but hey, don't get started just yet. IT'S THE FIRST TWO DAMN SCREENS!!!

so just relax and see what comes next...

You honestly feel like you wasted your money simply because a version released a year or more later will have a few extra features?

I expect it to pull an Oblivion and use that extra dev time to make it look at least a little better. I'm definitely not looking forward to the playstation fanboys gloating about how their version looks better despite the extra development time.

Also, I chuckled at 2K's little blurb about giving Bioshock the opportunity to be named GotY yet again. Foolish as hell to be honest, especially with GTAIV released and MGS4 and Fallout 3 right around the corner.

I'm quite a 360 fanboy, but seriously, at least wait until there's footage or something. You can't really make a claim like that based on two shitty screen shots.

so far they look the same to me, but those are some poorly captured screens, one shows over contrasted pink lighting, and the other is just plain boring to look at. who the fuck thought those where decent screenshots....lol. in-game shots of the first 2 minutes of the game would be better then those.

lol yeah. Granted it's hard to capture the awesome water in stills. Still, they could have selected some better screen grabs, that's for sure.

So true. Shots from the intro would have showcased a set piece from the game and their impressive water at the same time. Too bad they didn't think of that.

Heh, it just occurred me to that fanboys have a new game to argue over. I can see it now--each new BioShock news will end up as a discussion about which version's graphics look slightly better. What happened to gaming as I once knew it!

Those screens look bad very bad, dont defend them, but there is plenty of time for it to be polished up to a good level so no biggie.

its not that the game looks bad graphically, its just the screens themselves (camera placement, subject on camera etc) is just SOOOO boring. it'd be like konami releasing an MGS4 screenshot which only showed a brick wall.

It seems as though the new features will be downloadable on the 360/pc versions though nothings announced yet plenty of interviews hint at it, for example the one on this page.

My interpretation of the quote is that they mean to make the PS3 version must have for people who already own it on the 360/PC. In other words, try to make them double dip.
