Skate It announced

EA has announced another game in the Skate franschise - Skate It, due to Wii and the DS later this year. They also took the opportunity to announce Skate 2 to Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. First images of Skate It and some information can be found here.

EA press release:
GUILDFORD, UK. – May 12, 2008 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced Skate It, a new game in the award-winning Skate franchise that taps into the heart and soul of being on a skateboard. Designed exclusively for the Wii™ and Nintendo DS™ systems, Skate It has Nintendo players riding with the skate pros, owning the best spots in San Vanelona and pulling off the sickest tricks using the popular FlickIt controls. Loaded with all-new gameplay features, Skate It breaks new ground by introducing innovative support for the Wii Balance board which gives players a fresh way to create their own signature skateboarding style.

“We knew it would be an exciting challenge to bring the soul and feel of skateboarding to the Wii and Nintendo DS,” said Scott Blackwood, Executive Producer - Skate franchise. “With fresh new designs and gameplay components built from scratch, we’ve been able to, once again, capture the true experience of skateboarding in a completely innovative way.”

Skate It unleashes the FlickIt revolution on to the Nintendo platforms, letting gamers use the Wii remote or the Nintendo DS stylus to string together their best tricks for the ultimate skate line. The Wii remote becomes a skateboard and reacts to gestures that mirror actual skate flips and moves. Players can also deepen this experience by planting their feet on the Wii Balance board. Skate It brings the hit Skate franchise to a new level of creative ingenuity and gameplay excellence.

Skate It will ship in 2008. The game has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

Separately, Skate 2 is also currently in development for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system.

Well, I guess we just gotta wait and see if the gameplay can compare to the last game.

I sure hope that kid doesn't bail. I imagine his legs would snap into about 50 different parts.

In school I knew several skaters that skinny, but most likely EA's taking the cartoony approach with this game, like the "Street" games and that R2R rip-off.

Given the low Resolution of the images and cartoony style, is it possible that these images are Skate it for Wii and not Skate 2? The environments do look a little too good for a Wii game. Any ways, I hope they DON'T take a cartoon approach for skate 2. Skate's realism was something I really enjoyed.

Skinny people tend to bounce better.

Interesting. blatant cash in, but if it entails more Skate games then it's all good. I just hope this doesn't follow the way of the Hawkster. Yearly iterations which drift further from the core design.

Speaking of TH, I read not long ago that they aren't bringing one out this year! Looks like Skate really ruffled Neversoft's feathers. Fingers crossed they knuckle down and bring us a worthy TH game.

Saying that, Skate2 will have to do something special if EA are going to want my money again.

One thing is for sure, now I've tasted the Euphoria engine (GTAIV), I want all games that could use it, to use it!

*prays it will be in Skate2*

Very nice, they could make the best skating game ever if they do it right. There's no cash-in here any more than making a sequel to the first game anyway, so I've got no idea what you're talking about Archaos...

Hey I have no qualms about that, nearly all sequels exist for money making reasons. Especially when we're talking about an EA owned game..

Do you think that Skate It is not a cash in?

SimonM7 Nope, no such prestige I'm afraid. Just 1½ year of comic making and ICQ channel community on quakenet of all places. :) 2002 doesn't sound far back but it's soon 8 years ago. Time sure does roar past. (5 Hours ago)

SimonM7 Thanks :D and yeah I do. M7 was originally a webcomic, and the idea now is to make it a bit of an entertainment blog in general and a webcomic. Only done two strips so far since I rebooted it in may. (7 Hours ago)
