We spotted a big bunch of new Metal Gear Solid 4 screenshots over our friends at Jeuxvideo.fr, which just returned from Japan where Konami allowed them to spend three days on Hideo Kojima's baby. Along with a full blown preview, they confirm that the game will get a worldwide launch on June, 12th. Rendez-vous taken !

Commented on 2008-04-03 08:10:07Even beyond the quality of the shots, the content in the shots seem lower detail than I expected. Specifically, the environments look almost low-poly, as if all the Cell's horsepower went to rendering the characters instead.
Given that this game has had longer than GTAIV to develop, and has only focused on one platform, I'm thinking that another batch of shots like these will persuade me to cancel my preorder. Gameplay videos, please.
Commented on 2008-04-03 08:21:22Konami is probably keeping the gameplay secret because the game probably is infact upscaled. The screens that look high quality were probably taken with a dev-kit, which had screen capture, which tends to make it more clear and fix jaggies. PGR has this, a few other games have this.
The story will no doubt be exceptional, but so far i dont understand how Kojima could be acting so cocky about this game.
Game pro article said that these graphics were comparible, or maybe even better than Gears of War. That is definitely an April fools joke if i have ever heard one.

Commented on 2008-04-03 14:56:40 In reply to squarejawheroI'm not a Sony fan in the slightest sense of the word, but I don't understand how anyone can think that people will be let down by this game.
Say by some extreme long-shot that some fans are disappointed by the graphics. I'm sure that after playing for like 2 minutes that they'll be so engrossed in the game that it won't matter. Plus, I'm sure when they see other environments that aren't of the boring ass middle-eastern variety that they'll realize that they had nothing to worry about to begin with.

Commented on 2008-04-03 16:19:43but kojima also made the mistake of showing the game EARLY, imo he shouldn't have done it, when a game is far from being released, it should be kept from public until its near finished, then release vids, pics to build the anticipation. because the more we see, the less excited we become atleast for me
Commented on 2008-04-03 18:26:04 In reply to ChebouryI often found the pacing in past MGS to be interupted by overly long cut-scenes!
And yes, there's a clear difference between pic 1 and 12. Therefore pic 1 is NOT ingame!
I'm sure hardcore fans of the series would agree, i like the long cutscenes and story element of the game. The plotlines, cutscenes and music is what makes it METAL GEAR!
I hope the cutscnes are longer and the story is bigger, every metal gear solid game i play, i simply play hoping to get to the next awesome cutscene! It was what games used to be all about, why else you think FF is so famous for its beautiful cutscenes? people love playing the game until the next awesome scene!
This is metal gear, snake's last game alongside his creator hideo kojima. Expect it to be the biggest game upon release and all the fans can't wait! I've already booked a week off work! can't wait for june 12th
