PS3

We spotted a big bunch of new Metal Gear Solid 4 screenshots over our friends at Jeuxvideo.fr, which just returned from Japan where Konami allowed them to spend three days on Hideo Kojima's baby. Along with a full blown preview, they confirm that the game will get a worldwide launch on June, 12th. Rendez-vous taken !

12 is the game... 1 is the CGI... as usual with konami games... the cinematics will be spectacular thats why the games sooooo big...

but from #12 and the previous gameplay vids im not expecting much

WTF look at pic24 and the bags... their like 2 triangular blocks with a texture on em... not a good texture even....

1-11 are awesome... 16... 17 .... good as well even the second to last looks ok... but the ones that you can strongly tell their gameplay need major work.

yea the game in motion blows these screen shots away... this has been case with all games on 360 or PS3....

BTW MGS games never use CGI, Kojima hates that shit. 8 years ago he was very vocal about Final Fantasy games using CGI, which he thinks takes gamers away from the experience....

Looks great. People who don't think they look great are either incredibly biased or have been staring at Crysis for too long. I mean, c'mon. Not every game can look like Crysis. The whole battlefield atmosphere works incredibly well as that Altair Gear Solid April Fool's footage showed. As for Old Snake, it took me a while to adjust, but now that I'm used to it, it doesn't bother me anymore.
its not just crysis man... cod4 also did it... people were expecting MGS4 to be ... COD4 gameplay graphics with Mass Effect facial animations with MGS's plot/gameplay..... but they were expecting it because thats basically what everyone keeps boasting MGS4 as the game that will show what the ps3 is capable of pushed to the limit.

Does look very bland and the archaic gameplay mechanics don't do anything for me. Guess I'll wait until GT5 comes out to get a PS3.

archeic gamplay mechanic? i guess you didint like cod4 then eh...lol

MGS4 is essentially a shooter now. you have a problem with MGS4, you pretty much have a problem with every shooter avaliable from resistance, haloo, cod4, and even gears.

I love how your knee-jerk response to anyone criticizing MGS4 is to pick on another game.

It's cute.

Man whoever captured the gameplay pics from 12 and down made a big mistake.
All of them are deinterlaced, there is missing information every other pixel vertically. Just look at those telephone lines in pic 17. They should've released the images at half their resolution, because what we're seeing now doesn't do the game justice.

Don't worry about the doubters, it will stop once the game can be inspected by people with HD capture capabilities. You'll see the in-game shot's will be just as or at least nearly identical to the cinematic pics.

I remember that presentation when the graphics were actually impressive, lol.

And whoever said the gameplay is archaic............you are right. And the animations too, and I'll stop there so the fans don't get all upset, and start resorting to insults.

What exactly is archaic gameplay to begin with? How do you classify archaic? MGS4 has broken the archaic mode that plagued MGS3. You have a new shooting system and you can rotate your camera none of which were available in MGS1-3(vanilla). Now MGS1-3 were archaic. Static camera, slightly broken shooting mechanics(cannot aim while moving), and extremely complicated controls. MGS4 throws all of that out the window. Sigh, by calling its gameplay "archaic" you essentially call every third person shooter archaic as MGS4 borrows a lot of similar mechanics from said third person shooters. As for the animations, the last build you saw was from a year ago! I'm sure Kojima got hammered with criticisms about jerky animations and has responded to it. And for the graphics, they are more along the lines of something you need to experience in motion. It is a war-torn environment and apparently, according to IGN and Gamepro, does a great job of showing it. So, did I retort to insults?

He's not picking on another game. He pretty much says that criticizing MGS4 mechanics as being archaic means criticizing the mechanics of other shooters as MGS4 has borrowed a lot of mechanics from western shooters; ie., the complete FPS experience and the third person aiming models. For example, say you call the Gears of War "stop and pop" gameplay archaic. Through that, you essentially call the gameplay in Uncharted and DarkSector archaic as they both have the same gameplay model, stop and pop.

uh, this game is looking outdated already visually. taking too long for release. actually, i think its more that the pictures shown to us a year or two ago are simply leaps and bounds ahead of what is going to be shown on your screen at home. sad, really. hype machines are a real bad idea in my opinion.

Who ever doesn't listen to the podcast here's a little info:

Pic 1 involves there new gameplay feature were you'll be able to move the camerea/check on things like the pic where it crosses colonel and snake with sunny. Mr. Payton says there's going to be something important to do within these scene, so you won't just be listening to them talk but you'll need to do something. BTW proves that pic 1 is ingame. Pic 12 is also gameplay, these low rez pic don't do the game any good... it looks better in motion.

Gameplay wise this game is a huge leap for mgs series with western taste and a new cover and roll system. Don't believe me, MGO is going to change in a huge scale... rolling out of gunfire, a better cover sysytem where you just move and shoot compared to the old pop-out shoot, that was totally useless in the old MGO.

Sure this game wont win any rewards for graphics, but people are to jaded about the GOW sindrome to actually look outside there comfort zone, but hey we'll see what happens ;)

Not really new gameplay. The "Mission Briefing" sections were available in MGS1 and MGS3. In MGS1 The Twin Snakes, you could control the camera. However, being able to check on individual items is itself new. And I agree, the old pop-out and shoot was incredibly unnecessary. Used it sparingly in MGS2, never used it in MGS3.

by the sounds of that "interactive cut-scene" thing, it seems to be taking a leaf out of MGS digital graphic novel's book. where you could essentially pause the action and search around the scene for "clues" which would open up info regardging characters and backstory. theres a high chance this will be some peoples first MGS game (as shocking as that sounds) so their gonna need all the help they can get when it comes to deciphering the story. plus it gives you that little extra incentive to watch the story (for those too impatient to stick through it all)
