Codemasters releases two gameplay videos and a replay of GRID, and it's a bit of a letdown. The superb graphics of the last video has been bartered against a "Colin McRae Dirt goes downtown" outfit, and the driving doesn't look really solid yet - see the nasty drifts in the Yokohama file. Disappointing.
Update: Yokohama replay added.

Correct me if im wrong, but Richard Burns Rally in 2004 was the first game to use what revolutionized the racing genre and enabled games like Forza and Grand Turismo to evolve to stimulation state.
Which is 4-point wheel physics, where each wheel has its own axis of rotation and suspension...
If we include the PC, you still have die hard racing sim fans hailing Grand Prix Legends from 1998 as one of the finest examples of car physics simulation - and I imagine you can probably find decent examples even dating back an additional few years.
I haven't played that particular game myself, but various sims based on two generations and several updates of the ISI engine (including F1C '99-'02, rFactor, GTR1 + 2, RACE, RACE07 etc.) generally also beats anything on consoles in terms of realism, by a long shot - including the Forza and Gran Turismo series (possibly with the exception of Richard Burns, though I don't know if the physics model in the console version was as advanced as the one in the PC version?).
Personally I like sims as well as arcade racers (PGR4 is my current 360 favourite, GT5P on the PS3, GTR2 on the PC), but I gotta admit that based on these GRID gameplay videos, this looks like it could easily turn out to be a big letdown.
I hope I'll be proven wrong when it's released, but at the moment it really only looks like it's got two things going for it - pretty good graphics and interior views in (I'm assuming all) cars.
Oh how I wish Codemasters would take just the slightest cue from their own excellent TOCA 2 (actually, you can add that to the list of racing games with a great physics model already back in '98 :)), but it looks like those days are unfortunately long gone.
Anyway, Grid might be a huge disappointement. Dirt's graphics were great (too much bloom and blur, though) and they seem to have improved that (less bloom, still too much blur), but driving physics were really horrible, and it looks like they haven't changed much.
Ah well, back to GT5:P. I don't see any race/driving game surpassing it anytime soon.
Forza 2 is the physics king on the console side but you really must wonder, if the relatively sim-ish GT series has sold so well over the years to the CASUAL market, who the hell buys these stick-through-the-middle, look-mom-no-wheels racers. If you like your racers realistic, why do you order 15-year old crap for dessert.
So far GT5 Prolouge has left me dissapointed with its unimproved brainless AI and having to ram cars and wallride to get trough its challenges - online it's even worse.
Next ray of hope on the horizon is Ferrari Challenge on PS3.....Lets all keep our fingers crossed we get a good 'Racing' game soon.
The driving physics in DIRT were not horrible, they were realistic. How many of you have driven any of these cars enough to the point that you can pass judgment on how "realistic" the driving physics are? DIRT and GRID are no simulation racing games, the developers are aiming to hit the sweet spot between arcade and simulation.
Finally, it's called drift racing. It's a form of professional racing that has caught on worldwide. The car is drifting and continuously spinning its tires, not "floating."
Don't believe me? See for yourself!

so if you played grid already and you like the physics like you like them in dirt i know that grid will be shit like dirt now. thanks saving money - canceled my preorder.
