PS3

Konami releases six vaguely new images of Metal Gear Solid 4. I'm almost sure I've already seen this gallery somewhere, but we never newsed it here anyway so at least it shouldn't be completely worthless.

he's old because of fox die. did you not play the first MGS game?
I was refering to Kojima's statements about why he made Snake old, not the plot details.

Don't get the hype over this game. Nothing I've seen of this game appeals to me. From the boring setting, to the imo dull art and lame gameplay. I much prefer the 'James Bond approach' of Splinter Cell to this military stealth ninja theme MGS4 is going for.
Lol. I'm sorry, but Splinter Cell is not the "James Bond" approach. Sam Fisher IS a military stealth ninja (he was even called a Ninja by one of the guards in SC: Chaos Theory!). If anything, the James Bond approach is taken by MGS; fun, over the top story (La-li-lu-le-lo for example), incredible amounts of gadgets and weapons (MGS weapon counts dwarf SC), and the main character is incredibly popular with the ladies (hell, Snake hits on every female character except for Nastasha in the original MGS while depending on whether you got version A or B of SC: Double Agent, Sam got it or didn't get it on with Enrica). Tuxedo Snake even confirms Kojima's desire to make Snake akin to Bond.

Kojima made Snake old because he wanted to show wrinkles, something he was unable to do with PS2 tech.

First of all, whats with the sudden hate-tsunami? The game is going to be as every other MGS game was before this one, a good looking game title, the sooner you accept it, the better.

And as for the aging, Snake has been cloned in the 70's. In that time big boss was in his fifties and that's the exact time they started the 'Les Enfant Terrible project' (cloning project using EVA as the surrogate mother). Connect the dots, and you will understand why Snake is aging quickly.

Anyway it will all be explained in this last MGS saga.

EDIT : textures rarely hold up well when your that close, just play cod4 and you'll see the same thing. overall tho cod4 looks great, just like this game.
Halo 3, Gears of War, Mass Effect to name a few

for all the complainers saying the texture is bad... know this; it is designed as such... ie by design so that the PS3 can keep up with the frame rate.

I know that this title used to be "forced" by Sony to be 1080p, but that was back in the day when Sony was claiming that the PS3 would support 1080p games primarily. Times have passed and that's no longer expected of next-gen titles.

Also, those shots are in 720p, no? Why would Konami release lower-res images?

Facial detail is pretty damn good, everything else is average, and some things even bad.

everyone can talk about how it looks all day long, but what bugs me the most is old snake's voice. it just sounds so wrong and forced whenever i hear it, it's gonna take some serious getting used to.

Sorry I need gameplay shots. WHERE ARE THEY WHY HASN'T KONAMI RELEASED GAMEPLAY SHOTS YET!
/sarcasm

Anyway, I don't see why everyone wants environments that are pink, purple, and blue. As if any other color is suddenly not "artistic".

gears of war does not look good up close, check again, what the unreal engine does to "mask" the blury textures is add a fine layer of fuzzy crap over the top which makes everything look like an oil painting. not to mention the fact mass effect and gears arnt the best examples considering they have some pretty terrible texture pop in (i know which i'd rather have between instances of practically no textures and slightly lower res ones) halo 3 however does have nice textures. just a shame it isnt HD.

It's so easy to tell who doesn't own a PS3 by looking at the comments. Sorry you can't enjoy it, but don't don't go hating on one of the most influential series of all time. The game looks amazing and it will BE amazing.

So very true. Sometimes people tend to hate what they fear.

By the way pre orders already sold out in Japan.

http://www.konamistyle.jp/sp/mgs/mgs4/

I'll be ordering my very own PS3 bundle when the offer comes to America.

The future sales of MGS4 look promising.

yeah they dropped the ball on the graphics department. The initial tech demo was amazing and it went on to inspire Infinity Ward with CoD4 but I dunno what happened @ Koji Pro.

They should have used the Unreal engine, they actually licensed it for a PS3 FPS called Coded Arms but they canned it early last year.

I think Konami has decided not to spent millions of dollars for R&D on next gen tech, they outsourced Silent Hill, this is the only REAL next gen game they have in development. Kind of sad but I don't expect much from Japan these days

Wow @ the trolls, don't like MGS then GTFO. We don't care if you think Splinter Cell is better.

MGS gameplay rules, this one is going to be even better thanks to the changes

These UP CLOSE SCREENS may not look that great, in motion, this game eats your soul.

Even if it wasn't as mind blowing as it is, the gameplay is some of the best stuff in gaming.

I doubt anyone gives it under a 9.5.

Wow. I'm loving all the wild speculation going on in here. You haven't played the game, how can you dictate what score it's going to get, or that it will be better than it's predecessors?!

Obviously feel free to hope! I myself have little doubt that the game will be amazing. I plan on getting it, but not out of pure hope. Not out blind fanboyism from following all the screenies and trailers released (which I've enjoyed, but not rated the game by). I'll wait for the reviews thankyou.

Another thing I don't get is why people care about a game's sales/preorders. Seriously, unless you're into fanboy bragging, or have some shares in Sony then why give a fuck. I don't care if a game sells well, I'll only buy it if I think it's a good game. Not because everyone else is buying it.

Anyway, I've probably annoyed a bunch of people (unintentionally) so I'll stop moaning now. Looking forward to the game though.

P.S. OH NO THE WALL TEXTURE IS SHITTY, I REFUSE TO ENJOY THE GAME NOW!

For people complaining about textures: When playing the game they won't be viewed nearly that close up, so when the camera is following your character they will look fine rather than when seen close up during a cutscene.

Some people make reading the comments a horrible experience. This game looks great. You can practically lick the lice off Vamps chest hair so quit crying. If MGS games were all about graphics, most people would just watch the cutscenes and be content. We know that is not the case! They whine when they are too long!

This thread is getting ridiculous with the hate.

Has to be seen in motion to appreciate the visuals for MGS4.
In cutscenes the camera goes so damn close that the textures are either average or just uses depth of field blur.
