Xbox 360 PS3

As the two demos are now available on Sony and Microsoft's online platforms, here comes a short clip that tries to compare side by side the 360 (left) and PS3 (right) versions of Burnout Paradise, in 60 frames per second.
Update: Added a second comparison video by Dot50cal.
Update 2: Third and last video, again by Dot50cal, showing some slight slowdowns with the 360 version.

360's gamma is always dark.. most games give you the option to change it though.

That's not gamma, it's contrast - and it appears to be the only real difference, besides the sky. But that's expected whith lower contrast.

The 360's component cable is overly contrasted and the VGA cable is undercontrasted and saturated (even with expanded setting).

Looks like they have a different skybox for the 360 demo. And this is where my interest in this game ends.

Nearly every comparison video i've ever seen of anygame shows no graphical difference whatsoever, and if you do spot one you have to squint real hard, the only difference people ever see is the colour contrasts.

this one is strange because they actually look different.....usually its the same looking game with one version looking crappier, but in this case they both look great, but they look slightly different...i suppose its a win/win in that case...colors on the PS3 version are slightly prettier IMO

eitherway, this definately shows its better to develop on PS3 and port to 360 than vice versa

Not gamma - its the dynamic range in the lighting.

Higher range = higher contrast between the dark and light areas in the scene.

360 simply has a wider range when it comes to HDR lighting. A benefit of the hardware implementation of the EDRAM. PS3 uses pixel shader methods instead, the result is a softer image with less contrast.

So true. More people happy in the end which means better sales in the long run.

Have to agree with this - unless the game is held back because of PS3. Downgrades and delays are not good. That is why most games are 360 first, then PS3.

If it was cheaper to do on PS3 first, then that would be better for devs.

It's getting to the point where PS3 development costs as much as 360 development so hopefully more people swing this way.

the free roaming aspect of this game has ran the burnout series into the ground.

the game controls awesome, has great graphics, but the free world stuff just sucks. i hated starting events and not having a set path to go and having to look at this map in the corner mid-race to figure out which route to take.

thanks EA for running another series to the crapper.

I'm having a really hard time deciding which version to buy, even after playing both at the same time for myself.

The 360 version drops frames fairly often, not a whole lot, but it's like little hitches, I've only seen the PS3 version do this once or twice with a lot of cars on the screen (in a race).

360 version has better colors on my TV. My PS3 is hooked via HDMI and my 360 is through component, so that might be it. 360 has custom soundtracks, and while PS3 might get that feature some day, it doesn't for now. I like how the 360 does shadow mapping better.

People should check out Flatout UC if they don't like this new Burnout, that game is so great, and people just ignore it most of the time.

Anyways, I'm going to check out the video now and see if it helps me any more.

Why the hell just post why? Isnt it easier just to ignore if you dont care or dont like?
I like these comparisons, not because I want to hear "IN YOUR EFFIN FACE 360/PS3 OWNER!", but because I want to see if devs manage to make the game look the same on different hardware.

"Why?" is because all these comparisons do is start flame wars.

BTW anyone who knows anything about this game would know it was lead on PS3 and ported to Xbox 360 so its going to look the same except for some lighting. If it was lead on Xbox 360 and ported to PS3 then there might but lighting/framerate differences.

Near as damnit identical.

However with the PS3 software sales being considerably worse than the 360 I don't think many developers are going to see this route as the best one to take. Criterion have always favoured Sony platforms.

Snopper are you using HDMI and full RBG-full range on and all that on PS3?

Besides, most games let you play around with the gamma, so if the PS3 looks a bit lighter, just bring the gamma down a few notches and it will get a bit more darker and not washed out.

I do that with most of my games on 360 and PS3, unless there i nothing wrong with the default.

Besides, how are you suppose to enjoy the small details if its dark. Sharper looking yes, but won't see the small details put into the model.

Ah well, its all personal preference.

That's certainly not true. I own both platforms and I appreciate these videos to help me decide which to get.

I wouldn't rely on the fact of it being a PS3 -> 360 port to say they're going to be identical...

Played both versions and it is hard to tell any difference. Both XBOX & PS3 connected via HDMI. I have to say though that if you look hard enough the PS3 has more JAGGIES and the INTRO STUTTERS. I do prefer the XBOX 360 controller. BUT MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVERYTHING ELSE I THOUGHT THE DEMO SUCKED LIKE A PILE OF HOT DUNG!

Criterion has raped this once so awesome FRANCHISE. Come on I dont wanna roam this boring PARADISE CITY looking for challenges. THESE DEVS SHOULD PAY BETTER ATTENTION AND PLAY SOME GAMES BEFORE THEY MAKE ANY FUNDAMENTAL CHANGES TO THE GAME. All they had to do is look at what happened to NFS. Most Wanted being the best of the series!

THE KEY TO THE BURNOUT SERIES HAS ALWAYS BEEN: CRASHES, FUN & EASY TO PICK UP AND PLAY!

They turned BURNOUT PARADISE into a chore!

I am passing and getting PGR4 instead!

Maybe so but why would I care for that? No offence but as a 360 owner, I don't really care for what happens to the games on other machines. I just want those that I am looking forward to, to be released asap and without bugs. If they can do that by developing for the ps3 first, good for them. If they can't (and this is a likely case as proven in the past), bad for them.

Delaying a game just because development on another platform can't hold up is a bad thing (which this basically comes down to).

I don't get why people are hating on the demo so much. I friggin loved the free roaming aspect! It makes the game much more enjoyable in my opinion. Just cruising around the city and pulling off stunts is damn sweet. I also like how they used road signs to tell you which way to go in a race. It's Burnout meets Midnight Club in a way.

i fully agree brother. i'm getting quite fed up with this "UHHH EA is EVIL and is ruining all the games!" lets cut the crap. What were you expecting, another exact Burnout, new tracks and better graphics? Afraid of the new? I just played for like 15 min yesterday, and its looking quite cool and quite probably i'll buy it...

I could see potential in it, it simply isnt so pick up and play, I really hated the stunt challenge thing.
it's likr burnout crossed with crackdown, I guess it will just take some time to get used to. my first impression is that I hate it though :(
