i think it's the comment you made about a small step from san andreas visually that sheps disagreed with.

Which is what i disagree with as well, i don't think it is a small step, it is a big step, san andreas was visually limited due to its length, the game was absolutely huge.

This is GTA next gen, it looks next gen and it's going to be absolutely huge. I think visually it is a big step than a small step

^^ what games have you worked on Zeuxis?, im just intrested

personally i think, in a game like GTA, graphics are quite low on the priority list
and thats a good thing, because theres alot more id rather they spend there time on like keeping the framerate smooth and story ect

i think the trailer is great, very well put together, good production and music ect.
hopefully it keeps that sense of story and cinematic feel in the gameplay.

but my only annoyance is the voice actor, its NOT the accent as some moronic person claimed i was talking about in the last gta thread, its just IMO not very convincing at all... but who cares anyway, it adds character to the game :)

the gfx are better compared to the last GTA game of course. But compared to alot of other games released just recently, they're not that great. I personally liked Saints Rows gfx better. (even tho sorta cartoony)

but of course this will be 1 million times better than Saints Row, gameplay and story wise. You can change your clothes in this right?

^^comparisons are great :D

GTAs greatest asset is its ability to suck you into its world. Be it through gameplay, story or its atmosphere.
It has proven in the past it does not need full blown graphics to achieve this.

My first GTA 3D experience was with SA, I was sceptical at first but 10 minutes into it I was totally drawn into that world.

Lovely slideshow. Can't wait for the full motion trailer! Oh wait...

But to be serious, I hope the game runs at better than 20 FPS. I'm sure it will be fine and I have the utmost confidence in them, but the trailer got me just a little worried.

GTA SA really chugged on PS2 sometimes.

But these were cutscenes, and they still have some months (heck maybe more than just 'some' :X ) before they go gold...

Thats ok, I think its fine that some of you disagreed, its a good place for discussion on to see what people look at in the game and what they like or not, what impresses then or not. I worked on some games where there is time spend creating some features that in my field we find stupid waisting developmant time on, they don't add anything to players experiance, but the public will notice it, it would bother them and they would criticize the game even though it doesn't make the game worst or better.

It might be hard to explain but for people working in game developmant, we review games differently, we play them differently and we experience them differently. Its like magician looking at another magician, he knows how the trick works so he will be less impressed than a random bystander. Its like someone who specialises in FX for horror movies, I doubt he will he scared same was as someone who doesn't know how that effect is made, you know what I mean?

if you want to know what ppl like about games, well you can compare a good game to a women

- they have to look pretty
- they have to be enjoyable
- they have to make you laugh occationally
- they have to NOT give you a headache and be frustrating
- they have to last for a long time prefurably, but hey a game that lasts only 1 night is still good

(omg did i really just compare video games to women omg..!!!)

right, i need a break from this site, i think im addicted :p

If you worked on games, then take notice of the really high quality soft self shadowing, the open world game WITH helicopters (can't compare to Saint's Row at least), the MANY very highly detailed models...

To this point, nothing has been done at this detail level EVER. There's no debating it. Other games may look better in a frame or two, but this game is one of the most open ones (only really comparable to stuff like Oblivion and Saint's Row, AND it has air vehicles, take to the air in Oblivion with cheats and the game completely falls apart).

There's a huge difference between this level of openness and anything from Halo 3, to Call of Duty 4, to Crysis, to Uncharted...

thie only thing so far i dont like about GTA4's graphics is if you look at the moterbike picture above, if you look at the suspension bridge the lines are blobby, which suggests the game has jaggies

the gta:SA pic above it has a suspension bridge in the background too, which has nice clean lines...

but im not botherd at all really, just somehting i noticed

jioann00, so I say what games I worked on, and then we will'll have 50 treads on how much better those games could be, or how shit they were and I suck etc. Don't really want to start this here, and probably I shouldn't have said anything, so I take the blame and say GTA looks great, best looking next gen game so far ;)

See, I knew I be taken out of context :)

I know its big open world, new york, lots of characters etc, thats cool, I am sure it will be fun to play! And I know because of its size and content the visual aspect has been compromised, but when I ignore/forget all those facts, and I just look at the screenshots for what it is (a next gen game), then I am sorry but I'm not impressed, I think it looks what I would at least expect out of GTA, it doesn't blow my mind or anything, but that's just me....

Games like Crysis, Killlzone2 and COD4 makes you think HOLY FAQ I had no idea consoles or PC could do these graphics, where as this makes you think, yeah that's pretty much what a 360/PS3 can do and still it chugs without keeping a smooth 30fps but whatever, thats expected of current/nex gen console.

You guys comparing graphics, man, shut up are you insane?

This game looks good by ANY standards, and amazing when you consider how big it is. And the presentation is putting alot of games to shame.

This game looks out of this world.

OK, I can accept that. Personally I can appreciate the graphics when taken in context of the open world design. The freedom to see the same spots in a game from many very different angles (seeing the same place within a few feet versus from the sky versus from across the city), is really much more interesting in a purely graphical sense to me than a game that renders a nice looking backdrop, but if you were able to reach that point, it'd look horrible.
