Bandai Namco has officially unveiled Taki, the iconic character from the franchise that joins the roster of SoulCalibur VI. Trailer and screens inside. Update: Previous trailer (Siegfried) added.
King_Grunt, you're definitely right that they're using many art assets from Soul Calibur IV and V. Back in the Ivy trailer I noticed her sword is just as low poly as it is in those games, Mitsurugi's body is almost 1:1 for his SCV look except for the face, etc... It seems like the budget for this one is really pared back.
It's a shame, Soul Calibur was typically where you looked for really impressive visuals in a fighting game. Still, I'm glad to have a new Soul Calibur game after 6 years.
Yea Im glad to and Im going to buy it. But still when I first saw SC on Dreamcast I was blown away, then SC2 on ps2 blown away again, SC4 looked great. And this feels like 5.5 not a 6.
But I guess you are right the budget is probably lower then before they are not sure if it will be a success.
Its definitely bizarre. The same can be said about Tekken 7 and Street Fighter V as well, two other fighting games on Unreal Engine 4. And yet Injustice 2, a game running on a modified version of Unreal Engine 3, somehow looks better than any of them, character model wise anyway.
Tekken and the Soul series saw their biggest tech leap from PS1 the the next gen versions but it feels like we never saw a massive leap like that ever again. At least in Tekken 4, they went back and built the characters from the ground up with the target renders being revamped. over 15 years later and Tekken characters still have the same character renders with no jump in realism to bring the games forward on a technical level.
What I mean for example is this from Tekken 2 http://statici.behindthevoiceactors.com/behindthev... to this in Tekken 4 https://i.ytimg.com/vi/U3cuk5rByog/hqdefault.jpg
Kazuya hasn't changed since he looked like this as a target render in Tekken 4 back in 2002. They need to go back and revamp the entire roster of these games. Sure, the characters will end up looking very different like the characters do from Injustice, to Injustice 2 but that's what visual progress to realism is.

Blame Namco and Capcom. UE4 is plenty capable and i have experience with the engine myself. SC6 doesn't look too bad but it is a shame that the characters could have looked better.
I think they’ve definitely ripped assets from previous games to cut down costs. Just stuck some new shaders and textures on them to polish the turd. The visible faceting is insane for a game coming in 2018...and a fighter no less.
Somethings up with UE4 though, although not all can be blamed on it.
There not many UE4 games out there looking good.
Gears 4 in 4k on Xbox One X is one of few exceptions, but previous to that update it looked quite bland.
They rarely look especially crisp/sharp either image quality wise.
Even tho I have never been a SC player, mainly because of my unfamiliarity with the franchise and its characters, I really dig this character, actually, Taki could make me buy the game, she looks so cool

Neatherrealm Studios operate at a significantly higher budget than the SC team. Also visuals isn't just looking at the polygon count and texture details but the overall presentation and I think SCVI looks still really nice during gameplay. You'll only ever see characters up close before and after the match.

Best 3D fighter + best character editor imo.
