Their breakthrough hit is The Witcher 3. There will be more Witcher games.

But soon? They've got that Cyberpunk thing to do first.

CD Projekt RED has stated that they won't be making another The Witcher game anytime soon - if ever.

Excerpt from an EuroGamer interview with CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwinski:

"I asked him whether the studio will leave The Witcher series for good - following the release of Witcher 3 Blood and Wine on 31st May - or return to it some day, and he said, "We honestly don't know. We don't have anything planned as of now to be honest on the next Witcher.

"As we said before, never say never [but] right now it's really Blood and Wine. This is the end. Blood and Wine is [the] closing and there won't be any Witcher any time soon - if there ever will be one. And I would really like to see how people feel about it, if they will enjoy it."

CD Projekt recently outlined a six-year plan that includes releasing Cyberpunk 2077 sometime after 2017, and another mysterious triple-A role-playing game between 2017 and 2021. I thought that second game had to be a Witcher 4 of sorts, but Iwinski saying there are no plans casts doubt on this.

"We are a publicly traded company so we cannot comment on that but I can assure you we are not working on another Witcher," he replied.

But if that mysterious triple-A RPG isn't another Witcher game, what is it?"

EuroGamer - Don't expect The Witcher 4 any time soon - or maybe ever:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-05-19-dont-...

Taking into account that 6 year plan, and the fact that interview is from May 20th 2016, one shouldn't expect any new The Witcher game untill 2023 - 1 year after their 6 year plan ends. Which I'm fine with it, since Geralt's story did indeed end with the Blood and Wine story expansion - there's a moment which I won't spoil, but at that moment you get it, this is the end of Geralt's storyline. As it should be.

Of course, just like Grift said, a brand new The Witcher game would sell extremelly well now that people know CD Projekt RED's talent, so I'm sure they will revisit the universe with a new character or with an old character, like Ciri - which I definitely hope they do, as I would love to see her in her own story and outside of Geralt's storyline.

With Ciri it would be great because it would allow them to go into 2 directions - not going to mention them because of spoilers - depending on the ending they decide to make canon. A cool thing they could do is to even allow you to choose which of those directions to go, but that would be essentially making 2 games in 1 because the 2 paths would be completely different from one another, storywise and even having different core gameplay systems.

Tried the open beta, it seems to be terminally ill with pay2win syndrome just like my friend who played closed beta warned me. And it's not just cosmetics like premium cards, here you get better cards from "kegs" (read: local crates). Buy 100 or so of them just for $60 or patiently play with the base deck and build it up slowly, losing against better equipped opponents. I can only imagine that the situation would've been better if the game wasn't free to play.

Yeah, it's a CCG. That's kinda how it works :P

That said, i played the closed beta for a while and i'm not super enamored with it. It's ok, but i would never sink any money in to it.

Yes, I've played the closed beta for many days and can confirm, the game is in a sense "Pay 2 Win". You can grind by playing normally and trading resources for kegs, to acquire more and new cards.

But the real problem is that you get little resources per win and leveling up, and if you lose, you get even less resources. And since the levelling system is very slow, you would need to spend hundreds of hours to have all 5 factions' decks be great.

Then there's the fact that you can have multiple of some very OP cards, meaning you need to grind even more to have 2 or 3 of those cards. And while you can craft the cards you want, the resources you get per destroying cards you don't want are very little to even craft a new card of the same type and rarity, and the resources to craft the best and more rare cards are very high if you choose to grind in order to craft them.

All of these things wouldn't be really bad by themselves if everyone was on the same playing field, but since people can buy kegs upon kegs to acquire the best cards extremely faster than people who just decide to grind, it creates a very real unbalance of power that is made even worse by the fact that the more you lose, your progress will be much more slower. Rinse and repeat.

It's definitely a game in which you constantly keep thinking that you "need", not that you want, but that you need to spend money to succeed. If you don't wanna waste a whole lot of your time unnecessarily. By unnecessary, I mean that let's say you would have won 5 out of 10 matches if everyone was tied to the same progression rate, and that this made you reach level 2.

It means you would have reached level 2 in 10 matches, but the reality is that a lot of people will spend money because it's better to spend $10-20 - which you earn in 1 hour of work - than grinding for 10 hours or so.

Which means you will lose a lot and build your deck even slower, so lets say you only won 5 matches out of 20. You took double the amount of matches - and time - to reach level 2. Most matches in the closed beta lasted around 3-5 minutes.

But even if you use 3 minutes and exclude all the time required to use resources, buy kegs, customize decks, matchmaking, etc, 10 matches are 30 minutes and 20 matches are 60 minutes, so in reality you end up spending much more time grinding because a lot of the people you will face will have much better decks than they would if they couldn't buy kegs and resources.

That 5 wins out of 20 matches is something that happened with me. You get better decks with time, but you are constantly thinking that you need to spend money to get better. Not skill, money.

And that's why after reaching level 6 or 7, I just stopped playing. After you realize that the more you level up, the more slower it will be, the more you feel like you need to buy kegs. It's a vicious cycle.

Warframe, on the other hand is completely different than this, specially since it's a co-op PvE game. But even the cosmetics, are very easy to grind and acquire.

For example, yesterday a update came out that brought with it a new weapon and 3 new cosmetics - 1 cape, 1 armor set and 1 sygils bundle. Everything was 405 platinum, the game's currency you buy with money.

I only had 35 platinum at the time, and didn't really have anything that I could sell for even 100 platinum. And I mostly had junk and a few good - not great - mods. But after trading for around 1 hour, selling1 mod for 15, another for 20, another for 30 and so on, I got the money to buy the cape and armor set - don't care about the sygils bundle, but it would be the same process if I wanted to buy it.

And the weapon I have no rush to build as I'm playing other games, so I just started its research - which required very few resources - and will be done in 3 days, on Sunday. And outside of the weapons, the rest are all cosmetics. But even the weapon, it's just 1 more melee weapon in a game with hundreds of melee weapons, so it's nothing important to be honest.

In Warframe, you never feel the need to buy things in order to be better at the game, you can trade warframes (fighters), weapons and mods with other players, but they're all acquired easily through playing, or through trading.

Let's say you ran 20 missions in 30-40 minutes and didn't get what you wanted, you still got other things that you can trade for the thing you want or sell for platinum and buy the thing you want with that platinum you acquired through trading. It's that simple.

This is one of the ways you do Free-to-Play games. And is one of the reasons why a lot, a lot of people pay to support the company in order to keep making the game get better and better. And is why the developers have repeatedly said that they will keep supporting the game as long as people will keep supporting them. Even if they themselves would like to make new games.

And even though they are making new games, they did "Sword Coast Legends" in 2015 and are working on Keystone, their new Free-to-Play game. That's from a second team they formed from internal people and new people they hired, the core team who works on Warframe - as most of the company's staff - is tied to the game and have said that while they would like to make new games, they will support Warframe because of the fans for years more to come.

You do a Free-to-Play game correctly and people will support you naturally. But if you try to force people to spend money on your game, you will lose more money by the people who will leave than you will gain by the people who stay and spend.
