GSY Preview PC PS4 Xbox One

Styx: Shards of Darkness will be released next week on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, but we are authorized to share some gameplay footage of the game with you. We will also play live tonight, at 8:45 CET, so if you have any questions regarding Cyanide's new title, don't hesitate to join us. We won't be allowed to tell you what we think about the game though, which will be easy anyway since we haven't completed the adventure yet. The following videos were recorded in 1440p with the PC version. Enjoy!

Gamersyde at it again, awesome stuff. The first one was a big surprise for me, it took a mission or two to really get into it but then it clicked. A lot of fun to play both stealth wise or killing every damn soul, haha. My one complaint was that the backtracking to already visited locations got old fast, this happened just way too much. Hope this is a lot less in Shards, or not at all would be even better.

i don't even remember any backtracking in the game besides returning to the hub location...but then that was a hub...it's there as a base of operation, it's kind of the point. did you return to past missions once you'd finished them?

Oh man i can't even remember how many times i went through that laboratory place or that palace. They you going back to those places many many times. It became very boring and samey after a while. The developer has acknowledged this and said they have a lot more variety in Shards of Darkness. I mean i went through those levels killing every single guard, i just loved doing that. And that takes quite a while and having to revisit those places over and over again was just a big downer.

so you want linearity? how do you offer an open level structure without revisiting areas? isn't that like wanting a new kitchen every time you go to prepare food? the level is open, it's free for you to explore or revisit areas as you choose. i don't recall situations where the game explicitly says go to the lab 8 times or something? maybe i'm miss-remembering? it's been a while.

Game sounds fun, is there any demo to this or should I get it on good faith?

No demo AFAIK. To answer your second question - That depends on whether you like, love or hate stealth based games? If you're a fan of stealth/action adventure games then go for it. I'd also check out the 1st game Styx: Master of Shadows, it's fairly cheap at $29.99. For reference it's highly praised on Steam.
Styx: Master of Shadows - http://store.steampowered.com/app/242640/
Styx: Shards of Darkness - http://store.steampowered.com/app/355790/ (If you pre-order before March 14th you can grab the game for 10% off = $35.99 and get 2 cosmetic dlc items)

I haven't played the 1st game yet but it has been on my radar for a longtime now, I just never got around to buying it. I think it looks really interesting as well. It also has an unique art style with great visuals. BTW, the 2nd game Styx: Shards of Darkness, added online co-op, if you're into that kind of thing. Sorry for the rant, just trying to help :)
