There's footage of the Xbox 360 version on youtube, looks great (60 FPS1, nice high res graphics) and awesome lighting

the valve engine or whatever its called has always been one of my favorites, but I do believe it is time they upgraded because there is only so much you can do with it before games start to look dated

Its the source engine, and you'd be surprised at how different the engine is now compared to the original HL2 engine. It's changed a lot, and this is not the best looking game running it.
Here's an excellent example, running on the Portal 2 version of the Source tech:

This game is being made for consoles, and to perform well and still look good on lower end PCs to keep things competitive and making sure no one is left out.
Its also not being made by Valve Prime, so while it looks good, it's not going to look as good as Portal 2 or the next Half Life game.

looks a bit ass visually. i'm sure it'll be good old counterstrike tho.

Im inclined to agree with korn. The models are okay and the textures look like they might still be pretty blurry under all that depth of field. It has a nice visual effect in my opinion (not ass by any means) but those whose eyes melted are just falling for the magic of bullshots.

The Source engine is absolutely prehistoric when compared to any other current game engine. It still lacks proper surface shaders, meaning the environments are just low poly with no properly lit normal maps and no spec maps. The most you ever get is a vague environment map, which is something that's been possible since the PS1 days.

It needs a radical overhaul, or better still, Valve should just bin it and use CryEngine or Unreal.

The best part about this is that you can turn that stupid bloom off.

Hmm, hadn't played this game for about two months. Feels a lot more solid now than it did then, am liking the improvements. CS has never been the best of lookers but I'd be damned if I said the gameplay weren't there, feeling very good.

Those pics kinda surprised me. For a dated engine this looks pretty good. Gameplay wise i don't worry...it's cs ... CS i mean ... you know ... CS.
Sorry for my enthousiasm but this is and was and always will be my first love! And again sorry for my enthousiasm

that still isn't very convincing. there is a reason it is one of my favorite engines out there, and still continues to be, however my opinion is still the same. there is no denying the engine can use an upgrade and I am not saying it needs one right away but if they haven't started planning/preparing for a massive engine overhaul yet then this engine is going to be in trouble keeping up.

Keeping up? Source is way, way behind. The thing is, it's also still very functional. CS:GO is far from the prettiest source game, but the value in the engine comes from scalability. Valve understands the value of a platform that can run on as many PC's as reasonably possible, and I think that's a wonderful thing. I don't think it can last forever, but who knows. There are modern engines that are still just upgraded Q3A platforms (Call of Duty!).
