2K Games announced yesterday that the Playstation 3 version of Bioshock has gone gold and will hit Europe on the 17th of October. A demo will be released on the PSN on thursday, and a couple of images can be found inside.

Co-op would be fun but it isn't a dealbreaker, this one is to be played alone and in the dark! ;P

Comparing it with Silent Hill is rediculous. it's an FPS and mutiplayer always works and their excuse is Pothetically lame!

I'm an FPS die-hard, and I'm not shocked or upset by this news at all. System Shock 2 did not ship with multiplayer, it had it as an addon post release, I believe. Regardless, the game was never famous for its multiplayer action.

Some shooters have very light multiplayer modes anyway, that aren't really worth their developement time/cost. If you're going to do multiplayer, you should do it right and give it as much attention as the single player component, if not more.

Should Condemned have multiplayer too?

Not really, the game is survival horror regardless of the viewpoint. I would imagine Co-op is in their plans and that is fine with me.

It's the spiritual successor to a game that shipped without multiplayer. The only game(s) we need to compare it to is System Shock / System Shock 2 to know that multiplayer would be a total afterthought anyway.

No, not really, because FEAR is an action shooter and these games aren't. By that logic, Condemned should have multiplayer, because FEAR does. Bioshock isn't an action shooter, it's a horror/suspense game and you should really go find a copy of System Shock 2!

Shit, Half Life 2 (which is an action game) didn't even ship with multiplayer!

To my knowledge, none of the "Shock" games have had multiplayer so far. What they have had, always, though, is RPG elements. Traditionally I've never seen an RPG FPS with a multiplayer mode.

The comparison to Silent Hill is - albeit far fetched - the nearest fetch available. System Shock, and this spiritual successor, are indeed survival horror games with added stats systems/skill points and whatnot. It just strikes me as odd that anyone who's read up on it would expect or even want multiplayer.

My reaction was perhaps a bit over the top, but that's because the initial post made it sound like the devs have lost their minds.

That said, I was annoyed when people slagged off Riddick for no multiplayer aswell.

But seriously, I didn't even think about MP for this one. Does it even remotely look like a fast paced gun toting, action filled thriller? Nope. Looks like survival horror with a few guns in it.

i play FPS's and wasnt expecting multiplayer, a good immersive story is a deal breaker, not multiplayer ;)

Riddick is another fine example, what a great game. I still hope they do a follow up one of these days. I think Condemned is a fair comparison too, even though it lacks any RPG elements, it's still a slow paced horror/suspense sorta thing.

System Shock 2 does have a multiplayer mode, but it was added in a patch:
The official patch updates the game from the release version (1.15) to version 2.3. Players must have the release version for the patch to work. It adds multiplayer support, a new difficulty level, the ability to modify the rate of enemy spawning and gun degradation, and several bugfixes. The patch can be applied without breaking savegames.
Certainly not what the game is best know for though.

Not every game needs to be multiplayer. The best multiplayer games don't generally even have a real campaign.

Multiplayer on condemned would need to be thought about seriously because of the melee based gameplay. Im neither shocked or upset to hear about no multiplayer in bioshock.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption and System Shock 2 both have multiplayer modes, but I otherwise agree. They're certainly more forgettable than their respective campaigns.

Fair enough everyone I guess then. The game looked so good at E3 and I thought a multiplayer would be a killer thing to have with the game. Never mind, I'll settle for the Single Player. It better deliver though!
