2007-08-14 19:04:39 lol alimo you are FARRRR too easy to disuade when it comes to a game. A site says one thing and you start worrying / shivering in fear. Or that story gets in the way. Plot seems to play less of a role than some of Sakaguchi's previous million character chunt-erings. Instead Kaim's story of love's lost will be told in a separate mix of storyboard and sound titled 'A Thousand Years of Dreams'. There are a lot of cutscenes in the game. The fact that Kaim doesn't entirely remember things after he gets resurrected is a pretty obvious setup for plot and his past playing a major role in the outcome of his life now is yet another plot device we know nothing about. CVG is pretty amazing from whatever hands on they got they determined the story doesn't play a major role in the game :) Maybe there are some optional memories and then there are some you HAVE to see? That isn't like out of the question or anything. I wouldn't be surprised if this game involved you going to different places that triggered more of your memory forgotten. Or is this just like the Blue Dragon demo everyone played and made a pack of assumptions about the game itself simply because they didn't get to experience enough of the story in the demo? No. It's some of the other stuff. Like, the action constantly being stopped and started again It's not ponderous as much as annoying. And the new vocals demoed for the first time at E3 seemingly being recorded by people with all the sexual dynamism of a night watchman on a trading estate. our latest look at the second child of Sakaguchi's seasoned loins didn't reduce anyone to pools of geek-goo. --- |

2007-08-14 19:27:58 Remember one of Lost Odyssey's major mechanics apparently you can viciously drain the abilities/talents of mortal members of your party that die so perhaps CVG saw some of the cannon fodder characters that serve no major purpose in the story other than if they do die they can serve to power up Kaim and made assumptions on the story based on that fact? --- |

2007-08-15 01:47:52 Well I mean it's a preview, right. I doubt they had enough time with the game to see it through the end. |

2007-08-15 02:36:27 Ya I don't see how their preview could be quite so extensive that they come to such conclusions. --- |

2007-08-15 09:57:46 Gamespot puts this more into context. Finally, we asked about a menu option we noticed on the demo's title screen called "A Thousand Years of Dreams." This feature (which Microsoft wasn't ready to show us yet) will give you a number of short stories written by novelist Kiyoshi Shigematsu that detail some of the episodes that have occurred over Kaim's thousand-year lifespan. These stories won't factor into Lost Odyssey's main plot, but they will provide a backstory that will show you where Kaim has been, and some insight into his character in the game. The stories will be text-based only, but they'll include artwork and music to dress them up a bit. Well obviously the game itself deals with moments in his past, but perhaps these stories are seperate pieces of backstory entirely that have no significance to the game's events? Nah I doubt that I believe you probably wont need to have looked into the Thousand Years of Dreams option to understand the full picture, but it will just like the Halo books so to speak serve as a means to give you a deeper understanding of the character and all he has been through. A pretty interesting way to make use of the writer's talents I think. Don't necessarily force him to do something he isn't accustomed to, but have him display his talents by writing all these memories and give them their own stage to shine so to speak. I like the idea a lot. If those "pictures" are more than just pictures and are indeed manga type stuff I'll be blown away by this game in a big way. I'll then have 2 things to look forward to the game itself in addition to a complete manga right there on the game disc. I'm really excited about this possibly being a manga and not just random pictures for our amusement to go along with the text. I hope this is a full fledged manga they are talking about :) Think about the PSP browsers Op!! http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2007/064/9283... Imagine for a sec if this here were taken directly from the possibly manga they have included with the game? Microsoft apparently didn't show this to anyone, but people saw the option on the game menu. Man.. don't wanna get my hopes up too much, but if this is a manga colaboration between shigematsu and inoue I'd probably go nuts at the very thought of it happening. Its probably a typical color page from a manga or something obviously an extremely good one, but man :D Whoa my fault they didn't say pictures at all they specifically said Artwork! --- |

2007-08-15 10:29:28 Too late to edit so this is everything I said. Pretty interesting so what they've done is essentially create a Lost Odyssey manga of sorts detailing Kaim's thousand years of life within the game itself? Thats pretty amazing if that is their intention. Can't believe I glossed over this little detail before.
