http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/705/705037p1.html <---Q&A where developer talks about graphics related stuff used on the game among other things.

This is pretty cool because this is usually a feature that brings most things to their knees and its handled like nothing.
The entire rendering engine is brand new for Xbox 360 with high dynamic range lighting, light scattering and dynamic self-shadowing. The art assets are all new too. Many of the tracks are virtually complete rebuilds. In addition, the extreme tracks have been widened so they're much faster to race on and can accommodate more bikes during online play.

IGN: Can you provide more detail on the graphical upgrades to MotoGP 06?

Williams: We have a dedicated grass shader that draws blades and scatters them across grassy areas so now our fields and verges have more volume and the straight-line edges are much more blurred. Every material in the game is faithfully represented - rubber absorbs light but has a slight sheen, brushed aluminum even has the brush marks on it and carbon fibre weave reflects light differently depending on how you're looking at it. We should hit 60 fps still with 20 bikes on the grid.
IGN: What's High Dynamic Range lighting?

Williams: HDR - means that we can have VERY dark areas of the screen at the same time as VERY bright areas. So if you're in a tunnel looking out at a sky, it brightens right out just like it would in real life. This changes dynamically so when you exit the tunnel, the lighting outside returns to normal. It sort of represents the way your iris works. The bikes and riders together are in excess of 40,000 polygons now. That's five or six times what they were in GP3 and then there are normal maps and up to 6 layers of shader on every material. We don't talk about textures and models any more, we now describe materials using shaders so every surface on the bike can look and shine differently .
I think as acert said thats what developers should be doing right? Shifting to more shader heavy games to take better advantage of the 360's gpu? It seems like motogp is shader heavy could this be a reason as to why it handles HDR so nicely using more polygons on the bikes than even pgr3's cars?

Just thought this was pretty interesting. Especially in regards to the game's shader use which maybe acert can expand on :) Come to think of it only targeting 720p HDR should be a breeze for the 360. Now there are many games where the gpu can handle HDR much better given the graphical accomplishments of the title. Now would you guys say graphically this game with HDR 20 bikes, 3D grass, and all that other stuff 60fps is very impressive? Just want to make sure I'm not getting overexcited about this.

It is impressive IMO, the fact that the shaders aren't imediatly noticiable and that they blend with the rest of the graphics so naturally that you may not even notice is a big plus in my book and something I hope we start seeing in other games.

Lets face it, the closer we get to photo-realism the easier it is to detect the flaws no matter how good the graphics may be, when you can look at a game and not even notice the shaders and effects then they have really hit the nail on the head cause we see that stuff everyday and its mostly not that impressive in real life(like the sheen on a tire).

I think this just goes to show that if you develop the game from the ground up with the consoles strengths in mind then you can really accomplish some fantastic graphics.

MotoGP takes place on real racetracks which are generally built in the countryside, though there are city tracks aswell.

Aint that the truth its amazing considering everything casts a shadow all the stuff that even the spokes, the number of polygons on the 20 riders and 20 bikes, the 3D grass, HDR, all at 60fps. With games like this on display at E3 I don't see how anyone could with a straight face say the 360 is inferior to anything.

The only one I ever played was MotoGP2, but the learning curve was too hard for a brain as soft and fragile as mine, so I gave up. I'm hoping with MotoGP 360 they will find some middle ground between ass hard and ouch my brain hurts easy.

LOL, well, the hardest one was GP1, then GP2 got slightly easier and 3 was noobified. Now, I read somewhere around here a demo will be available for the game, so there's your chance to try it out.
