GSY Video PC PS4 Xbox One

After updating our Nvidia drivers today, we did as fast as we could to get you some PC ultra footage of Just Cause 3. Note that we deactivated the blur effect (which oddly doesn't entirely stop it apparently as you'll see in the fourth extract) and the Edge fade option.
Our rig: i5 4670K @ 4.1 GHz, 8 Go RAM, Windows 10, SLI Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 Gigabyte OC.
Note: We've just witnessed massive slowdowns in the game, we'll have a video up in a bit.
Update: FPS Analysis video added.
Update 2: SMAATx2 apparently blurs the image even if the Blur option is off. Use SMAA until it gets fixed.

No SMAATx2 (nothing above). It looks blurred because of the engine itself I'm afraid.

Maybe it is the temporal aliasing component (SMAA _Tx2_) that blurs the game and produces frame blending artifacts (maybe in conjunction with a SLI bug or something?). Did you try the other AA options?

I tried SMAA and didn't notice much difference, but I didn't try to walk slowly as in the video. I haven't tried FXAA though.

I just bought it today on ps4 and the motion blur is ridiculous. They need to toned it down soon.

Just tried SMAA when walking and there is no blur. It's clealry a bug with SMAATx2.

Man, this looks EXACTLY like JC2 except for the wingsuit, and while I'm sure it would be fun for a bit I know I'll get bored real quick.

It plays 90% like JC2, If you follow the dev diarys they show the list of changes made to the game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE4WyTCtMys

The Graphics on the other hand blow much of JC2 out of the water. Explosions, physics, lighting on the trees (the leaves actually illuminate with the sun rays). the detail on the vehicles are also 10x better. HBAO+

JC3 is a much better JC2 if anything. there's still some updates to come for JC3 on PC/XB1/PS4, so it's good that i held off on picking it up just yet. the game has much to be desired gameplay wise so it's definitely on my list.

The game is actually scoring pretty decently.

9/10 with EGM
http://www.egmnow.com/articles/reviews/just-cause-...
8.5 from polygon
http://www.polygon.com/2015/11/30/9822508/just-cau...

from harder game critics -
GiantBomb 4/5
http://www.giantbomb.com/reviews/just-cause-3-revi...
Destructoid 8/10
http://www.destructoid.com/review-just-cause-3-322...

------------------------------------

Not all 9/10+ games are fun, some of them get the score for overall complete factors. Fun Factor is something also to consider on game purchase. Like many fighting games which have also nonsensical qualities but are simply fun.

While I agree with that notion.. only one of those reviews is that high, and it's metascore is in the 70s.

As for fighting games: if they were single player experiences they would not be very popular. It blows my mind that they did not include co-op in this game. The co-op mod for JC2 was immensely popular even though there was nothing to do in it.

Right, i'm not saying it's 100% AAA metascore. i'm saying the game does have it's entertainment value.

Am a big fan of the Just Cause series, I love 3 its more of 2 but everything is bigger and better. For me that is really all I want and I play SP pretty much only, so I am very happy with it.

I got the PC version and it works really well in multi-screen as well looks rad on three screens(no issues btw).

If you want more of 2 go get it now, if you are looking for something totally new this is not it.

Thanks for the vids.

Just for your information, the game does NOT support multi-GPU (SLI/Crossfire)!

We know, contrary to what Nvidia first stated in the description of their latest drivers. It still doesn't explain the massive drops we witnessed yesterday. Another Batman: Arkham Knight fiasco?

The FPS Analysis-video makes no sense for me. I´ve seen hours of different playtroughs of the PC-version on Youtube in 1080p60 and the framerate have been pretty much flawless at all times

Well it makes a lot of sense to me since that's exactly what happened as I was playing yesterday. I still have drops and since we've given you the rig we've had the problem with, I don't see how it could not be relevant. On Miguel's rig which even even more powerful (he has a killer i7), he also has frame drops down to 45 fps when running the game at 1440p.

Having read a good portion a negative reception surrounding JC3, they've mostly been around technical problems. (IGN included)

IGN -
"+Great mobility
+Massive open world
+Impressive destruction

-Performance bugs"
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/11/30/just-cause-...

Destructoid - "Charming - Not perfect, but it's easy to ignore the rough spots when faced with so many engaging design decisions and entertaining moments. "

Gamespot- "Despite its spectacle, Just Cause 3 is filled with bugs, bad AI, and other rough edges. 8/10"
http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/just-cause-3-revie...

...So if the game was performing flawless, would it score higher i'm guessing? Fallout4 also shipped with bugs. the Witcher3 as well which has 8 patches on the consoles.

The video is anything but irrelevant. :) I apologize if you took it like that. With it not making any sense I only meant that I haven´t seen these problems at all in the YT-playtroughs I´ve seen. I also know that you play on better hardware than most youtubers and that make things even weirder

edit: it seems like a fix is on its way: http://steamcommunity.com/games/225540#announcemen...

@ Gamersyde:

Could you please do some more PC videos with the latest Just Cause 3 patches?

You did several follow-up videos for The Witcher 3 when new patches were out.

Could you please do the same justice for Just Cause 3?

And if you do it: Could you please enable blur and edge fade and use SMAA (instead of SMAA_T2X) this time around?

I'm sorry I can't lose time doing more JC3 captures at the moment. Anyway, performance is still very bad as soon as bokeh and high shadows are activated, the latest patch hasn't changed anything from what I can tell.

Have you already tried this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/JustCause/comments/3uzqjk...

?

According to the internet, disabling both the ingame fullscreen and ingame V-Sync option and then starting the game with "/borderless /windowed" should result in a much better performance. V-Sync can then be forced through the driver.

Also, according to the internet, increasing the virtual memory (paging file size), might also help.

Any chance you could try that?

It would be much appreciated.

Performance isn't bad all the time, but say you're facing a big facility with a nice draw distance and high shadows and bokeh activated, framerate just takes a hit. Same when you start blowing everything up. The problem with the game is that it does not support SLI and global illumination and the physics engine have to be demanding, not to mention shadows and depth of field. I also belive it has to be CPU bound somehow, as in most open world games, a good CPU is required to run the game perfectly.

Well, you manged to completely ignore my question.

You are probably running the game in standard fullscreen with in-game V-Sync enabled, which probably leads to it running with double buffering, which is causing the framerate to drop from 60 fps immediately down to 30/20/15/10... fps, when 60 fps can not be sustained.

Again:

Disabling both the ingame fullscreen and ingame V-Sync option and then starting the game with "/borderless /windowed" should result in a much better performance. V-Sync can then be forced through the driver.

Why should it result in a better performance? Because this should make the game run with triple buffering, which allows the game to drop below 60 fps without immediately dropping down to 30 fps.

Have you tried it:

https://www.reddit.com/r/JustCause/comments/3uzqjk...

?

I think it's a little sad that the game is being shown with SMAA_T2X and double buffering on Gamersyde, making it look suboptimal.

No and I won't because I've played enough of the game on PS4, I am on vacation and would like to enjoy my newborn child a little of you don't mind. So I'm sorry, I won't try to play the game standing on one foot with a pink hat and a thong on to check if performance can be improved in the game. Forget it.
