Images Xbox 360

During yesterday's conference , Microsoft and Turn 10 announced that a sort of Forza Motorsport Kinect was in the making, a game we will call Forza 4 for now as it is presented as the next big thing in the franchise. Giving you the possibility to play without any kind of controller whatsoever, this 2011 title will also allow you to admire your cars just like in real life, walking around them, crouching to see the tires from up close, all this thanks to the magic of Kinect. Some images have even been released, apparently claimed to be in-game, but let's assume not many people will be fooled when checking them out: incredible lighting, ultra realistic shadows and scenery. Photorealistic, to say the least but credible?

Turn10: The Ultimate Bullshotters. I'm not giving in like I did last year. I'll wait till I see photorealistic IN-GAME and not just in photo mode and menus.

Need to remember guys without a detailed environment and just a car on screen you can pump a lot more detail into a single element on screen. These ARE bullshots, but in terms of graphics both the PS3 and 360 could punch out a single car and an HDRI skybox like the one in those screens.

Photo-realistic or not, the one thing that matters to me most is the enjoyability.
Forza 3 looks good anyway, and is very fun to play.

Obviously, in photo mode they can concentrate all the effort on show a photorealistic car and scenery (very empty), but by the way, it looks stunning and ultra realistic and awesome. Very nice lighting, textures and a very high poligoned car. In game, I´m sure It will be less ultra realistic.

Actually, if you saw Microsoft's presentation, there was a guy on the floor whose movements corresponded to the camera movements on the screen. So, unless the whole thing was staged, this is probably what the car showroom or whatever will look like. It will of course be hard to do this with 8 (or more) cars on screen.

This is how Forza 3 should've looked like. I wasn't really impressed by how it 'advanced' from 2 but I wanted to have the new cars :(
Playing without a controller? I'm not crazy, I don't drive a real car by just holding my hands out like some maniac trying to grab some lady's.... (or some other embarrassing stuff). I play the game with a steering wheel to get as near experience to reality. What are they gonna come up with next? Playing with my eyes closed? Sorry but this doesn't sell to me.
Besides, I don't know about you but not many people have enough space in their living rooms to 'walk' around a non-existing car. There's like one square meter space between my screen and the furniture.

All this stuff could definately have been created "In Engine", theres only one car on display, no A.I., no physics and next to no enviroments. Its obviously not CG as it is fully interactive...

On an Xbox360? You must be living in a dream world, i dont think we'll see in game cars with this much detail until the generation after next.

I know but still I'd expected some step forward anyways. Are they making the game for themselves or for us? There wasn't really much new they came up with, especially considering that they probably employed everyone on this planet to work on it. Have you seen the credits?
Trolling aside, if they plan to make the game like this it makes me think if they mean it for 360 or the 'next gen'. Still, don't be fooled. Just because it looks detailed, realistic and shiny doesn't mean it is technically demanding. My experience with modeling 3D has taught me that looks are indeed deceiving. I'd wait for an ingame footage. That's what always shows the true colors.

What was presented on stage and in demo's afterward of this part of the presentation was not quite this level of detail but still quite amazing lighting and textures. These are bullshots obviously, but no doubt this project is a step up from Forza 3

I believe they could do this. There's like NOTHING going on in the background and all they have to do it focus on the car model.

Umm, actually these screens are obviously CG. The graphics in the tech demonstration with only one car doesn't look anything like this.

Not even the same ground texture or tires for goodness sake. The game even retained its cartoonish lighting.

Does it matter what it looks like? to me it looks like a pointless gimmicky feature that you'd show your friends once.

I wont believe anything turn10 release after their last 2 releases. It's safe to say FM2 and FM3 didn't look like the screenshots they released initially. Still good games though.

Not buying FM4 is it doesn't allow me to host a public custom lobby in online MP.. That's what bassicly ruined FM3 for me..

Of course it won't look like this in game with other cars and a track. The only way the Xbox 360 could render a car like this is to only do one car.

However the video they showed of it running looked much better than Forza 3 did.

The thing is, even if we could have such amount of detail in menus, it would be super incredible. Obviously, even that is highly unlikely as this looks just too good, even if it's only that car being rendered. That would pretty much put them without a need to remodel a car for the whole gen, lol.

Still, just imagine the time it would take to create a car detailed to this level! That's why I think seeing this in any shape or form in the actual game is highly unlikely.

I'd say it's quite likely, actually. I've made 3D models of cars before. Sure, it takes a lot of time but a highly skilled professional can do it quite fast. Plus many times you can get CAD files directly from a manufacturer which just need some tweaking and they're done. If you consider how many people they employ for games today, even Forza 3 had a superlong list of credits, including freelancers, it's not that impossible.
