Great to hear, I've played it for about 6 hours and the game reminds me a lot of Dark Souls 1, which is a great thing. Glad to see it getting a lot of praise as well.

On the PlayStation 4 Pro, the possibility to play it at 2160p@30fps and 1080p@60fps, both at rock-solid framerates, and the amount of customization options not only for the game, but for the technical aspects of the game are excellent and I hope more and more developers use it as a standard moving forward.

Digital Foundry has done a "Complete Analysis" of the game, and the technical achievement of Deck13 is exceptional.

Ok, from souls players on Youtube i've heard mixed opinions about this. For example that it crashes all the time on PS4Pro.

I'm waiting for a sale or general price drop before i get this. Got burned when i got hyped about Lords of the Fallen, and this seems to fail in many of the same ways from what i hear. Turbo-cringe dialogue, artificially slow and clunky combat and such.

There's barely any story so far, more like a premise of sorts - just like in Mario games. But this is just from about 6 hours of gameplay time and I'm only in the 2nd area of the game.

But if you're looking for depth lore or mysterious characters, The Surge does not have that. At least not yet. The main appeal of the game for me was the gameplay and exploration, of which both are great.

The combat is very visceral and fast-paced with many combos from both you and the enemies as well. And the exploration is great as there are a lot of shortcuts and secrets just like Dark Souls 1.

Other than those things, the rest is average. But this is definitely a "play for the gameplay" game than a "play for the story" one. For those who never played a Souls game, I would recommend them instead of The Surge, but for those who have played all 3 Dark Souls games and want a fresh Sci-fi setting, this is a great Souls clone.

After watching the digital foundry video, i think this game turned out to be an interesting surprise. it still does look like it took pages from Elysium, Advanced Warfare, and Edge Of Tomorrow. but it does get some merit by making up for in good combat structure. the lighting too is also good in this.

If i had to guess looks like a 8/10 for me. (looks up on IGN 7.9/10, close but correct.)

I have both games on PC. Played LotF for around 3 hours and quited. I'm 30 hours in this game and counting. This game is much much better. Level design is great, very labyrinthic and with many shortcuts, and the attention to detail is great (every armor has it's own flashlight for example). Also, I love the setting, the armor design and the futuristic world design is awesome and it fits great with the Souls mechanic.

The game is really hard. I like to grind in the souls games so bosses become easier but in this game, even with a lot of grinding the bosses kill me in seconds, so I have no other option than figure it out they attack pattern. The combat is clunky at first but as you gain weapon expertise it becomes much more fluid. I don't know about the PS4 version, but in 30 hours didn't have a single crash.

As you, I was doubtful at first as it is from the same developers from LotF but I am pleasantly surprised.

If i had the cash to just throw around i'd have probably bought it, but i'm prioritizing other stuff atm. So once it goes on sale, i'll give it a go. But then, that was my plan all along :)
