On the PlayStation 4 Pro, the possibility to play it at 2160p@30fps and 1080p@60fps, both at rock-solid framerates, and the amount of customization options not only for the game, but for the technical aspects of the game are excellent and I hope more and more developers use it as a standard moving forward.
Digital Foundry has done a "Complete Analysis" of the game, and the technical achievement of Deck13 is exceptional.
The Surge: PS4/ PS4 Pro/ Xbox One vs PC - The Complete Analysis!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDKmJB629-0
I'm waiting for a sale or general price drop before i get this. Got burned when i got hyped about Lords of the Fallen, and this seems to fail in many of the same ways from what i hear. Turbo-cringe dialogue, artificially slow and clunky combat and such.
Cake or death!?
But if you're looking for depth lore or mysterious characters, The Surge does not have that. At least not yet. The main appeal of the game for me was the gameplay and exploration, of which both are great.
The combat is very visceral and fast-paced with many combos from both you and the enemies as well. And the exploration is great as there are a lot of shortcuts and secrets just like Dark Souls 1.
Other than those things, the rest is average. But this is definitely a "play for the gameplay" game than a "play for the story" one. For those who never played a Souls game, I would recommend them instead of The Surge, but for those who have played all 3 Dark Souls games and want a fresh Sci-fi setting, this is a great Souls clone.
If i had to guess looks like a 8/10 for me. (looks up on IGN 7.9/10, close but correct.)
The game is really hard. I like to grind in the souls games so bosses become easier but in this game, even with a lot of grinding the bosses kill me in seconds, so I have no other option than figure it out they attack pattern. The combat is clunky at first but as you gain weapon expertise it becomes much more fluid. I don't know about the PS4 version, but in 30 hours didn't have a single crash.
As you, I was doubtful at first as it is from the same developers from LotF but I am pleasantly surprised.
Cake or death!?
