Been eying this for a year or so. Unfortunately they have dumbed down the American version to be less challenging due to test complaints about 'ease of use'.

It's still going to be worth testing however.

Just a bit of a late heads up but the first Tera test was today.(you can probably find keys on random sites still fwiw)

It has gone pretty badly so far the EU servers having been down all day.
Hopefully they extend the test window.

Kinda eats that they only let you play between friday and sunday, then they will wipe in april before the open beta weekend and then, BAM! Wipe again :P

Ordered by mistake the US version so I was in last beta.

Can't really comment on game structure with such a limited game time, but I was really impressed by how the combat flows and its precision.
Even thou I played from EU, lag was non-existant and I always felt my hits landed where they should.

Visuals are incredibly detailed, almost on a par with high-end offline games. The extreme anime style on characters is obviously
something you will love or hate. Animations are top notch.

In the little time I played (lvl 15ish on various characters) I felt a "western" direction in grind/quest experience gain. Xp go up fairly fast
regardless of killing mobs or delivering quests, which in the starting areas are aplenty.
Mcuch faster than Aion for example.

The thing I really appreciated, is the fact that even killing random mobs was a much more diverse and satisfying experience than in your usual Everquest clone.
I hope ather aspects of the game will match this feature.

A positive note on customer service: When I realized I ordered the wrong version of the game, I contacted the customer support and in 2 hours I had my order switched to the EU release.

I think the XP rate is juiced up in the beta. But they have said that they will follow a leveling curve similar to other modern MMORPGS, so i don't think it's going to be korea-grind. At least i hope not.

Anyway, can't wait to give it a quick go tomorrow when they open up the server for a stress test, then spending the weekend exploring the game for real :D

Yeah I hate korean grinders as well.

On a side note: I would consider buying a Razer Nostromo or similar to play TERA.
Problem is, you don't move with your mouse (which is used to aim), and going WASD and usual keybindings is kinda ankward in a game where you must always move.
Anything that lets your left hand free to WASD constantly is kinda useful imo.

Or you could, since the game was designed to work with one, just plug a 360 pad in there and play with that if using WASD doesn't feel right? :P

I tried it. It works quite well, but after some level I found myself short on buttons, and fast-turning in pvp is obviously slower than mouse.

Well the gameplay basics are well suited for gamepad control. Standard action/adventure stuff.
But like I said, after some levels you find yourself with too many abilities to properly manage them.
Pad camera speed and precision is a no-go in pvp as well, especially as a caster

There's this feature that lets you build "chains" of attacks, in that case you just press spacebar (or whatever other button you choose) to fire the next one in the chain.
Anyway I often found myself using a lot of abilities outside of the chain.

The combat is very situational. On my Slayer (2handed melee dps) I rarely used the same "rotation" of skills. This is a big plus for me.
