Thanks for this. Visually it looks very nice in areas, but it seems to be an inconsistent product...

more like generic shit. there is no need for this crap game it seeps in Eurojunk developer territory, the world would be better off without it, and it just taints the ME universe with so much turd quality (Keth race....wtf is that?) stuff that it has come to a point of no return. Even if a new ME title is conceived and given to another dev house, this must be made non-canon.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is the reason WHY games are cancceled mid-development. But EA is a shit company, and makes customners pay the price of their unprofessionalism, atleast Sony and Microsoft have big Games cancelled on their life that didn't expose customers to this level of shit. Not all (Too Human, LAIR) but there were cases.

Yeah. I have played the previous three games, but have never been much of a fan of the series. However, I thought this one was going to build on the more exploration orientation of the first game, and had some hopes that it would grab me more than previous entries. I didn't expect such a rough product as this. Many were expecting Horizon to have issues with writing and plot, but it seems like that game is stronger in pretty much every aspect than this, including writing.

That explains it then. It's funny how sometimes limitations can focus the experience and create truly memorable titles. Not to contradict myself as Mass Effect Andromeda's inferiority could simply be down to the team but it also feels like the added power of this generation left this team unfocused, and they ended up playing the number game.

I kept hearing near release 10 times more than that or this from any of the prior Mass Effects which sounded excessive, and certain mechanics should have been axed and wouldn't have made it as they wouldn't have been possible last gen. Judging the gaming now, it seems ironic to think that the 'unlimited power' of this gen could account for the inconsistencies but it certainly seems so. I guess with more power comes more responsibility.

All that extra power, yet to my eyes, for some mad reason (obviously a talent thing) the character models look a lot worse than ME3's. I had to check that out for myself having not played the originals in years, but it's shocking how true it is. I don't know if it has something to do with Frostbite, but the lighting on the models looks really strange. There doesn't seem to be any occlusion going on, and polygon faces inside mouths and eyelids are directly lit. It just gives the whole thing a very cartoon and flat look. Even armour, which is supposed to be solid and an independently animated subtool, moves with the rig for the bodies, which makes them bend and look like it's made of rubber. It's very disappointing, considering that one of ME's appeals was how supposedly lifelike the characters were when you engaged in conversation, giving better immersion and a connection between the game and player.

To me it just seems like the whole thing was put together by millennial, "bro-buddy" douchbags. The characters just seem so out of place and at odds of what the premise of ME:A is supposed to be. The original had Shepard. He looked hard. Acted hard. Walked like he was hard. Spoke like he was hard. Danced like a wanker, which was great. These new characters, to me, look like they've been inspired by the cast of Friends.

Eurojunk? You mean like the Witcher 3? :) Or Battlefield, Grand Theft Auto, Minecraft, Hitman, Horizon Zero Dawn, Tomb Raider, just to name a few. Oh hey, looks like Europe makes the best games in the world.

That was a counter point and you lead in with The Witcher? And then Battlefield? :D

I think the "eurojank" reputation comes from decades of low budget PC games though. Like The Witcher ;)

Shephard didn't look particularly tough, nor did he have a very gruff voice. He was bald though, I will give you that. And at least he looked distinctive. The new male default has a fairly common appearance, but the rendering is a bit iffy and the animation is the real problem.

EA seems to be ruining these games, surely it couldn't just be a coincidence. It seems like their ethos has changed from the early part of last gen when, Dead Spaces, Mirror Edges and Burnout Paradises were getting made.

If you ask me now to name one EA game of recent years that's great I draw a blank, from Dead Space 3, to Need for speed, to Mirror's edge 2, to Hardline, to Mass Effect Andromeda, not a game in between or included springs to mind and it's not for a lack of good games for those mentioned are that.

But we are long overdue, for a great game of which many of those I mentioned once were. EA seems to just be factory making games and loosing something special in the process. Here's hoping things improve.

He did whenever he got the scars in ME3. I think you described it better in that he was much more distinctive, but he also did have that look about him that he could handle himself. Sort of like a marine, action figure sort of look with the chiseled jaw. These new leads look like they should be doing perfume adverts.

I think this is actually an old school way of looking at video game publishing. EA and the non-Blizzard parts of Activision are stuck in the past when it comes to how they produce and market content. It's all about front loading success and pumping out enough content every year to make up for the failures. They've both failed to latch on to service models for basically any of their properties. EA Access may be a strange exception where they're actually out in front with an idea.

EA and Activision both need to get with the program.

I agree except I haven't touched Mirror's Edge 2 (seriously even when its single player only now DICE can't even pull that off with a decent game), BF Hardline (never touched 3 or 4 either) or. They were all also easy avoids for me too.

I literally have not bought a game this gen by EA. Mass Effect Andromeda was set to be the first..................until the VGA 2016 reveal, after so long, cast massive doubt on the whole thing (the game was due to go gold in 6 weeks at this point lol).
Every tidbit of info they released of the game the past 3 months just made the decision to avoid that so much easier.

Have a look at this video, its quite hilarious or just skip to the end where there is an amazing edited sequence where Bioware's name is put into a grave alongside other great names killed off by EA like Bullfrog, Westwood and Pandemic Studios. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KWkao73HuU :)

Except.. that's not really accurate as Bioware is in no real danger of being killed off.

If anyone has become the studio killer in the last 10-20 years it's Microsoft, not EA.
