Oh god, this is going to kick off tonight isn't it. What a day to launch Gamersyde!

The Halo 3 trailer definitely isn't CGI. That was verified at the time. If it's been downgraded in the meantime, that's different (I'm not of that my opinion myself) but lets bin the CGI talk now or this thread won't end well.

The Killzone 2 trailer was definitely CGI and judging whatever we see this week under that benchmark is silly. We all know it's not going to happen so lets get over it.

I'm not seeing anything stellar in the KZ pic but we'll be seeing lots more of it this week so I'm not jumping to any conclusions quite yet.
A voice of reason in a sea of hyperbole! :P

I did read somewhere that the game is set on the planet Helghan (sp?) and that the Hellghast (sp again!) can control the weather or something?

The game might be pushing that particular envelope rather than say texture quality. I don't know, I've not followed this game much to be fair.

It'll look nothing like the CGI I'll say that much. That's a legitimate question to ask Sony perhaps but bringing it up here every 5 mins surely doesn't get us anywhere. We must all know it was never looking like that?!

Surely? :)

Exactly all the press that saw it at GDC said as much, it not gonna get close to the CGI, lets move on.

I don't think anyone here hinted it would look like the CGI though..

Plenty of people have, not the least Phil Harrison who said elements of it were already surpassing the trailer.

I mean he COULD have been referring to the ability to control the player.

:O Set on Helghan!?

Speaking from purely a story and setting perspective that would be awesome! And yes, the ultra harsh climate would certainly mean atmosphere effects to the max.

I sort of hope it's set on both Earth and Helghan though, just to be able to mix up levels as well as the first game did.

Dammit, now I'm excited, Sath style. :D

I wonder what they're doing on Helghan.. unless of course you play a friendly Helghast (Gregor Hakha was, after all) and there are internal rumblings over there. Otherwise it'd just seem inapropriate to go over there and cause a fuss.

Well would you expect anything else to come out of Phill Harrisons mouth ?, he's in the PR business after all.

I'm sure plenty of Sony fanboys have been suggesting similar things as well, but again what can you expect ..

Wasn't directed anywhere in particular. Call it nipping it in the bud if you will because there are plenty of people who have either mis-managed expectations or will directly refer to the CGI just to trash it. They'll be plenty of both types over the net tonight make no bones about it.

In the last year I've even spoken to people in the industry who bought the E3 stuff hook line and sinker. Like you say, most rational people will be able to discuss Killzone without constantly referring to that trailer but there are plenty of people who won't for varying motivations.

Well I think going back to Motorstorm is the rational thing to do. With Motorstorm they really did manage to capture the intensity and overall feel of the trailer, and the best we can hope for is that this thing does the same.

I mean hell, concept artwork is the same. Character design in its purest form will also be subject of adaptation and never be close to as detailed, yet at its best it does a great job of transfering the appeal and personality of the design to the final game.

That's what I'm hoping for. That sense of intensity and chaos that's prevailent in the Killzone trailer. Scripted events with crashing planes and shit blowing up and people running around yelling. I thought even Resistance did a decent job in that regard, but its universe and art direction is vastly less appealing to me.

I would agree actually regarding Motorstorm. As a "this is what we're aiming for" type trailer it was pretty good and Evolution did a good job getting near to it.

Killzone is bundled in a whole extra plane of hype though so I'm not sure the situations are quite the same. It'll be interesting either way.

I could certainly see them capturing the feel of the trailer in an interactive movie type way, tons of scripting, essentially on rails as you're taken through a wild ride. How that translates to a whole game and replay value is another matter though. The trailer was just set piece after set piece which looked great in 90 seconds but over a few hours...hmm. We'll see. 18m Euros has gone somewhere!

First game was very much like that too though, with the ride being different depending on what character you played as.

Guess I'm a little late in seeing this picture, but I think it looks pretty good. Textures could use some work though I look the use of light and shadow in the pic. Can't wait to see it in motion.

Not the best comparison but I first thought of Condemned when I saw that shot.

I think we are jumping the gun quite a bit on just a single picture.

Personally I think it looks fine. We should wait to see how it all comes together in motion before we make assumptions.

I like Killzone because it has more of that realistic sci-fi style to it rather than alien fighting sci-fi like Halo. I prefer "sometimes" fighting against human enemies that is like clones and a big as a whole army field.

Now you guys can take it as you want but that is how I see Killzone.

I know regardless of how Killzone looks its pretty much doomed to be compared to the E3 2005 trailer. It will inevitably be compared.

"You are not exactly the person to say that, because I have seen you getting hyped up TOO much about almost every single "sexy" image get released ;)"

I'm saying what I said in response to people that said they were expecting more or it looks just like fear. Also I surely do not Sath. I get excited over a specific image not just based on the image itself, but the overall promise for the game. For example something coming from Bungie regarding Halo 3 is that much more exciting to me due to all the things I like about Halo and their reputation. When I see a awesome too human screen I'm never just getting excited about the screen itself I'm excited because of everything else the game promises to have. Ultimately I think you confusing me with someone else as I never get excited over a random game that looks amazing in screenshots unless the developer has a proven track record or its a game I've read up on and find interesting.

For example I've never gotten hyped up too much over a dark sektor screenshot and that game looks incredible. I'm more cautious when it comes to certain games.
