This week also saw the release of The Darkness II on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC and we are now able to propose a few videos of what happens after the end of the game's demo. For the same price, you are getting three videos of the 360 version and one of the PC version. You should be aware that the latter is presented in 1080p and 60 fps but that its content may also shock the most prude among you.
After a first episode that had its flaws but which conveyed a great atmosphere, fans were a bit concerned about The Darkness II. There are probably several reasons for that: Starbreeze no longer was in charge of developing the game, the graphics had taken the cel shaded path and, last but not least, it seemed to be even more action oriented than before.
In the end, I think the art style works pretty well here, but that's probably a matter of taste. As for gameplay, it has been improved a lot since the first installment, the controls being more responsive and less awkward. You will also see in the videos below that Digital Extremes did not forget to add more peaceful sequences during which you can take your time to chat with your friends.
The game's atmosphere is still one of the game's strengths and killing bad guys is a lot of fun, with the mix of shooting and decapitating you'd come to expect from Jackie Estecado. There is however something quite disappointing with The Darkness II. The main problem is that it probably won't take you more than 5 to 6 hours to complete the main story mode, which is rather short even in today's standards.
@KORNdog: The dub was wooden, like most localizations of japanese games at the time. Expensive AAA game pushing the envelope, unlike III which by the looks of it isn't pioneering much, which is fine. (11 minutes ago)
[url] short biomutant gameplay. (21 minutes ago)
i think it'll be fine. it's an in-development title, with a budget on-par with an indie game. you're not going to get the next horizon visually. (55 minutes ago)
you know what i remember about shenmue? wooden delivery of lines and wooden animation. it was about awkwardly walking and running around an environment asking mundane questions (56 minutes ago)
I am sorry nostalgia or not, those shenmues characters look like shot... This is truly embarrassing (2 Hours ago)
locations, and not really a game in development. So much time hiding a game, and this is wath the well known perfections Yu Suzuki shows with a straith face? Fucking kikckstarter strikes again! (3 Hours ago)
game, and it just had some dead eyes faces plasted to the mocaped bodies, it was trully bad. And the deserted city streets. This seems like a talented modder modeling of a "2000's type" of shenmue (3 Hours ago)
