.........carrying a ps2 quality weapon? everything in the screenshots seems so low poly. this title could have been a great UE4 showcase. even noobs are modeling weapons with extra detail. at least put a little love into to the work.

Gamers are still expecting fighting games in 2018 to have Uncharted budgets for literally no reason.

The game is going to look great, but you guys think Tekken 7 looks bad (lol).

It looks great in motion; that's what matters most.

Graphics in fighting games aren't as important as they used to be. They tend to focus more on the games staying locked at 60 fps on all available platforms. ESports have a lot to do with them favoring performance over visuals.

That's blowing it out of proportion. You can't possibly defend that screenshot.

Ivy's tits are just ridiculous. lol

Well, Ivy's tits have always been ridiculous. That, her hairstyle (and color) and her outfit are key to her design. That and her chain blade, obviously.

looks like a PS3 game. Not only has gameplay grown stale in fighting games, but so have the visuals. If this was at least a visual showcase like it used to be I'd consider getting it even though I'd probably grow tired of the gameplay after a while. Gameplay in pretty much every other genre has evolved. There is no reason why it can't in fighting games. Someone needs to figure out how to do physics/ai based animation and interaction. It would throw more chance and randomness into the mix just like a real fight. That would be exciting and new.

This game does look great! They went back to many of their OG outfits! And it has busty Ivy and Evil Kilik? Automatic Day One!!! Now bring on nude in spandex Taki!

Isn't that because the game is set around the events of the first Soul Calibur? Its a real missed opportunity though. They should have set it around the time of the original Soul Calibur AND Soul Blade game. The story mode could have featured the Soul Edge weapon origin retold as well as the Soul Calibur one.

Unreal Engine 4 simply does not lend itself to fighter games. You would think a game with 2 character models on screen and a very simple small area with a very controlled camera would look absolutely stunning in 2018. But if it makes bringing the game to multiple platforms easier than I guess that is the route they are going with.

I have SC IV and this new version is impressive. As long as the gameplay is good, I will keep it.

Most recent fighting games are running on UE4:

Street Fighter V
Tekken 7
Soul Calibur VI
Dragon ball FighterZ
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite
Injustice 2 (modified UE3)

I don't see the engine as a problem. If it's about the (lack of) graphics quality i think that is more related to budget and also art direction than engine being used.

Graphics are absolutely abysmal....As others have mentioned this looks like a early PS3 game....

Man back in the PS3 days which was only one Gen ago. Tekken and Soul Calibur had amazing graphics. Some of the best of it's hardware. I use to seeing a visual spectacle with these games....

I see the gameplay is as fluid as ever. Check. And I say the graphics looks great. I honestly don't get ya'll gripes on the graphics. In fact, I say it looks better than Tekken 7, which was the best looking fighter out.

You don't need uncharted budgets. There's a handful of main character assets to get done here, and only two of them are on screen at any given time. There's no reason for any aspect of them, no matter how small, to be such low fidelity. A couple of control loops around the edges of things, 'smooth' or 'turbosmooth', one iteration and bingo! You've something that doesn't look like its made out of 3 triangles and takes literally 2 seconds. There's so much GPU power to work with these days, even when targeting the base level (which should be PS4, X1). Assets like that shouldn't exist.

The object in complaint seems to be the chain weapon Ivy has, and the only reason I can think of why it looks so shite is because they have to animate it fluidly and responsively. Less polys makes that more efficient and easier to do.

I suppose that's all that counts. I'll concede that too much emphasis are placed on things these days, like graphics, that actually bring a game down. Although, you'd think with modern engines like Unreal 4 and its featureset, post effects, and other things that can be done with a click of a button, should allow games like this to look better than what they do. It's all about expectations. Fighters used to be a benchmark. Now they aren't. The best looking one, I think anyway, regardless of how good it is as an actual fighter, is Injustice 2. Visually that game looks great.

But that's just it, it doesn't look that great and I'm a huge Tekken fan, got the Collector's Edition and all. Or it doesn't look that great for what I described above, a small scene with 2 characters on screen.

I don't think there will ever be as impressive a jump in visuals for the series or fighting games as a whole as there was between Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament. Heck, 5 years into PS2's life, TTT still looked pretty incredible and that was a launch game.

Then again, I say that but then the jump in Tekken 4 to full 3D environments AND a huge improvement in graphics with character models and target renders redesigned from the ground up (which has never happened since) was equally as impressive and that game still looks great today. Seriously, how come the jungle levels water effects still look better than Tekken 6's forest level water effects???
