Love SW, no need for it in a SC game :)
If Yoda is really on my box art, I'm gonna be a little annoyed.
Now that apprentice is kind of like a cheap character no? Like, there's nothing cool about him, looks like a bum actually.
At least his character looks good, this game is impressive to say the least.
It seems funny that even though they're adding more characters (which would normally only improve something) all the fans seem to be getting more and more annoyed that SC is straying from it's former titles. It's almost like people complaining about titles that go multiplatform.
This is a shameful plug for Force Unleashed if I have ever seen one
I can't deny the fact this trailer is pretty epic though

LAME. It has no place in soul calibur, and makes absolutely no sense.
At least he should have a more interesting fighting style than Vader.
So, gimme Star Wars, Gimme Star Trek, gimme Conan, Gimme Mario, what the heck, it still will be fun to bash them :)
That said, I have no problems with the Star Wars characters at all. Since when is adding features a minus for gamers (idiots)?
SGimme Star Trek, gimme Conan
LOL
I can think of plenty of features that detract from the overall direction or quality of several franchises, anyway. I don't particularly care for RPG elements in my FPS. I think the create-a-fighter mode from SC3 is gimmicky nonsense. Oh my, I must be a fool!
I think people are mostly put off by the marketing. A lot of Soul Calibur fans would rather talk about Soul Calibur, and learn about the few (as in, Hilde) real new characters, and new game mechanics, instead of having the entire franchises popularly be completely hinged on such a pointless gimmick.
Mind you, I think Link and Spawn were pointless "features" too.
I'll bet Lucasarts gave them the rights to use Darth and Yoda if they used the TFU guy as well. Cross-developer tieins are all the rage these days : Smash Bros, Mario & Sonic Olympics, MGS4, Assassin's Creed...

Maybe we should all accept the DC universe in Mortal Kombat then too
Yoda is a "feature?"

honestly i dont give a s*** who they add, and may it be Chuck Norris, if the characters are fun to play and well balanced :)

Personally, I don't mind bonus characters (it adds variety.) but SC does seem to get less original with every new character they add that doesn't relate to the game. It was fine in SCII but its gone too far in SC4.
Well then enjoy spoiling every single game release for yourself. You are a fool for not only judging this game before it's released, but complaining when they add features you can choose to ignore if you wish to. You cannot make the comparison you did to changing core gameplay elements. This is like being upset at Lego Indy for having an unlockable Han Solo.
And this being a versus title, with online play, I honestly doubt I'll be able to simply ignore all of the fluff characters that they're adding to the mix. Do you think there's going to be some sort of "pure" filter in the XBL/PSN support for Soul Calibur 4 that disables the ever growing handful of extra, BS characters? There certainly wasn't in DOA4, for example--but at least there we didn't have to fight The Pope and Hitler in between bouts of random marketing bullshit.
Once upon a time, Namco took this franchise seriously.

Who said anything about judging the game? I loved Soul Calibur 2, but Link and Spawn were pointless distractions that existed simply to add marketing value to the title. Likewise, we're getting more gimmicks here, and instead of building the hype for SC4 around the games actual merits, they're building it around the hope that they can attract a specific audience that may or may not actually care about the game itself.

All fighting games need filters, I'll give you that. You shouldn't be able to use Tengu online in DOA4 for example (even though he isn't THAT unbalanced). You should be able to disable whatever characters you want, as well as changing damage and time limit and all that standard stuff. Hopefully they'll add that.

But I don't really understand why the non fans are making such a fuss over the cross over.
Why shouldn't marketing bother me when it actually becomes part of the game itself? People complain about in-game advertising all the freaking time. This is in game advertising at its worst.
