Images of Blazing Angels

Images of Blazing Angels

UBI released these four images from the Xbox 360 version of Blazing Angels: Squadron of WWII, to be released in the end of this month. Great-looking clouds, lesser great-looking planes, but I guess the big amount of moving objects compensate that.

I'm not even remotely interested in airplanes nor the games thereof, but the art direction in this game is truly stunning. It's like the artistic thinking of a game like King Kong applied to an aerial combat shooter. Brilliant.

Wow. Flying in London among detailed buildings could be really fun.

In all the pictures I've only ever seen external views, are there no cockpit cameras at all? I hate playing in 3rd person like this, its like hang gliding 30' off the back of the plane.

I really like the styalistic approach to the scenery though, especially in shot one. and in shot 3 thats a great draw distance over london, if there is some free roam and dog fighting over live, i'll definately be picking this up. Anyone know the release date?

360 version looks awesome in motion, the amount of activity down below and the draw distance... very cool.

I'm gonna sleep well tonight knowing that there ARE still people who acknowledge and appreciate "stylistic approaches".

My home town. (except its a city :\)
The 3rd shot looks the best but tower bridge seems out of place.

Sorry but knowing what the 360 can do and comparing those flat-faced low-poly buildings to almost anything we've seen before just doesnt make me respect this game.

I mean its ok to have LOD buildings in the distance but when they are a cardboard box even upclose, no thanks. And the planes themselves arent that hot either, several games on the PC do them better. No AA and low-res global textures aswell, apart from the skybox which is the least you should expect with 512MB.

Anybody whose played BF42 on the PC with a high-end PC (or enough to run full detail), build the city from those buildings, create a mod of that game to mimic this game and there you have next gen. Now that would look stellar.

And this from a guy who enjoyed IL2 Sturmovik on the PC with a flight stick and loves flying the planes in Battlefield 42. This game just doesnt do it for me purely from a visual standpoint. It just screams LAST-GEN PORT!

Infact looking at the first shot again, oh my freaking god, is this a PSP game? Scale the shot down to PSP res and there you have it.

I don't see the visual prowess. BF2 Buildings look good from the ground, but in the air...not so much (just OK). Anyhoo, BF2 maps look to be half the size with 1/5 the number of buildings, so maybe your expectations are a little unrealistic (for now)? Anyhow if they pull off the experience I think they're aiming for the buildings should blur just enough for you not to notice the lack of detail. The planes do need some work though; they are just not attractive (yuck).

I agree though that this game isn't really moistening my pants based on these screenshots but hopefully it will pull together nicely at launch. By the way I think some of that AA is helped by a decent HDTV. There were a couple of games that had "jaggies" in screenshots that were smooth as silk when I sat down and played them

Like most all other games i'm waiting for the in-game videos to come out.

Can't say much from these pictures though i like the style.. and the planes are looking somewhat ok.. maybe in motion later.. might be good, might suck.

Instead of scaling down try to figure out how would it look like with more colours. It needs colours of course. Then try to imagine your plane in motion. Highly promising. Anyways this is a flying game and it can't be as detailed as Project Gotham Racing 3 (I think). Also one thing that needs to be remembered is that many buildings are boxy.

Does anyone know what church is that in the first picture? Because if it is supposed to be St. Paul's Cathedral in London it doesn't look quite like it. I am not just talking about polygons here. More like reconstruction. And I just checked from Google Earth that St. Paul's Cathedral is not as close to river as that church is. My hopes were up but if it is supposed be St. Paul's then this game might be a wasted opportunity. I just don't like it when game developers remix cities. Why do they bother? It looks good though.

I like the gritty atmosphere they've got going on with the overcast sky and old photograph style colours. Really good. I'm interested enough to see how this pans out. AFAIK there isn't a release date for it yet so all the little gripes could vanish.

IGN has a video preview... http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/788/788821/vid_...

Looks alot better in motion. This is starting to peak my interest.

Great video. Around 1.47 you can now see St. Paul's. Now it looks right with pointy towers. But now it is too FAR from the river Thames. I am confused. This is my last post for some time.

on the first picture the level of detail is really ugly!

I guess they were just aiming to cram as many buildings in as possible, details be damned.

  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX not even uber anymore.. GTX 570 OC may get replaced next year. Maybe. It still kicks ass but paired with a 120hz panel I'd like even more performance out of bf4. (4 minutes ago)
  • ASURAshadow
ASURAshadow @GriftGFX: I don't blame you. Don't you already have some uber pc setup? You don't need a ps4/x1 to play the new titles at the best quality. (8 minutes ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX I want a new console but I don't actually know why yet. No one is really offering me anything new. (16 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog It wouldnt fix the fact the console is more about sports and TV then gaming, but at least then i could get on board to play whatever exclusives it may have. (16 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog They'd need to do a 180 on all the negative news. No required online, no required kinect, allow used games, etc etc. (17 minutes ago)
  • ASURAshadow
ASURAshadow @KORNdog: agreed. I'm left hoping sony doesn't pull any used game bs and the new dualshock controller is actually functional this time. If not then next gen is fck'd by sony, m$, and nin. (20 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog I mean, if the show was all we saw or heard, i'd just be waiting on E3 to show more games. But its the console and shitty practices that have put me off. (24 minutes ago)
